Re: most preferable tuning
looks like a brilliant guitar' date=' shame its £800[/quote'] No kidding, lol. -
Re: Jackyl Jackyl was a decent albeit late in the game Hair Metal band. They had some great blues based riffs and an insane vocalist.

Re: Proto Metal 1958-1969 Cream were incredibly heavy when they first started. Obviously not by today's standards but the distorted bass and what not was earth shattering to many people. Led Zepplin has to be mentioned of course. Blue Cheer was yet another as were the Scorpions (the formed in 1965 if memory serves.) Spooky Tooth, etc...I should know more but apathy's a bitch.

Re: Ronnie James Dio I saw Dio once, it was only his second time through my state. His first was on the 'Holy Diver' tour in 1982. Doro opened followed by Yngwie. I'd never heard of either of them and loved them both. Dio opened w/ the first 3-4 tracks from Holy Diver and then did the entire Imagica album. He closed with some Rainbow tunes as well as 'Rainbow in the Dark' & 'Holy Diver'. Sadly the bulk of his show was painfully boring. I don't know why he didn't bother to play other songs from ANY of his other albums. I mean his first was a landmark in Trad Metal but Sacred Heart and Dream Evil kick ass. Good memory over all.

Re: most preferable tuning Nice! I've been looking mostly at Schecter guitars though. I've been debating on getting another ESP. I've never liked Ibanez for whatever reason. The one I've been eyeing is the Schecter Blackjack ATX C-7. As long as the guitar doesn't have a rosewood fretboard I'm usually alright w/ it. I loath rosewood yet that's all I've got at the moment, lol. Maple, ebony & graphite are what I love to play.

Re: Deathstars I lost interest in them after their first album.
-
Re: most preferable tuning If I could find one I liked for under $400 I'd be all over it.
-
Re: melodic death metal Fall of the Leafe (their first 2-3 albums before they went goth) Beyond the Embrace (if you like mid-period In Flames worship) Callenish Circle (fairly generic but alright) Gates Of Ishtar (pretty good but repetitive) Carcass - Heartwork (is pretty much melo-death) Sentenced - North From Here (great example of tech melo death)
-
Re: most preferable tuning We use B standard (B, E, A, D, F#, . We're looking into the possibility of using 7 or even 8 string guitars in the future because most 6 string guitars bitch when you tune low.

Re: lamb of god I love OVERKILL. One of the best Thrash band in existence. I always get flack for stating that 'From the Underground and Below' is my Overkill album. 'Under the Influence' is a close second.

NEVERTANEZRA pronounced (never-ta-nez-ra) is my Doom/Death band. The entity has been around for years, but we only recently started playing live. We have the typical influences from England, American and South America and we've recorded and EP and an album. Our singer is Rick McCoy from the late great Avernus from IL and Aaron Stainthrope from My Dying Bride did the artwork for both of our releases. Our stuff isn't typical of the style and that's completely by accident and as of now we're working on material for our sophomore album.

Re: Iced Earth
Agreed, their earlier material was very good.A shame really because Schaffer used to write some really epic riffs. -
Re: Morbid Angel Apparently only my singer and I hate that album. Alters of Madness is insanity on disc. I love it to death!

Re: lamb of god
I hope that didn't come off as an attack because that's not what I meant. I was thinking out loud, lol. I'm not sure when people started using that phrase but its rapidly taken over the original term. Perhaps it was more of a colloquialism to my area than I had realized. Pantera, Biohazard and several others...oiI mean the chugga chugga groove. We can thank Pantera for that whole mess. Nah, if you like it, more power to you. -
Re: New here
Actually my band is planning on filming our next gig for just that very reason. That and our drummer can never be seen when playing live and he wants something to prove that he does exist for the sake of posterity. If everything goes as planned the first or second weekend of September we should have something up.If you have any videos or stuff like that you can post them on the Youtube section -
Re: lamb of god
I've never understood the "groove" tag. We just called funk metal. That is the genera of music where "groove" comes from anyway.More accurately a fusion of groove metal and metalcore. -
Re: Iced Earth Way overrated and fairly bland live. I saw them on the 'Glorious Burden' tour with Ripper (he was the reason I went) and he alone made the show bearable. Ralph Santola was pretty badass too however. I have all their releases up to and including 'The Dark Saga' but they just kept putting the same thing out after that thus why I stopped listening to them. That and Barlow is awful. He constant grunts and yips after EVER sentence/word sung/shouted gets old really fast.

Re: Not heard much of this The kidneythieves aren't Metal, not by a long shot. They're amusing but not Metal. Rammstein is a good example in this style but very mainstream. Godflesh arguably invented said style with Pitch Shifter cloning what they did on their first two releases. Skrew was a great Industrial Metal band from the states as is/was ...and Oceans. Ministry is another example of this style as well, although they are WAY to political for my tastes.

Re: Elvenking I've yet to met a person who actually likes that bands vocals, regardless of which singer they were listening too. I had all their releases but I'm thinking of loosing them to the local record shop because after their second album they started sucking hard.
-
Re: bands? The first two Elvenking albums are great (avoid the rest however). Vintersorg is killer as well as the first few Borknagar releases. Skyclad, Korpiklaani & Rivendell are excellent. Some would/could argue Finntroll fits the bill as well.
-
Re: lamb of god Just sound like core to me.
-
Re: Morbid Angel Morbid Angel has been putting the same thing out since their third album (which was awful IMO). Their last two are no different, just MA going through the motions. Their first two, forth and sixth albums were pretty good however.
-
Re: Death Scream Bloody Gore is the only Death album I can't into. I think they are a bit overrated but everything they did after their debut was excellent.

Re: New here Thanks everyone! I'm going to be combing over all the threads to see where I can throw my two cents in.
IRON MAIDEN
in Heavy / Traditional Metal
Posted
Re: IRON MAIDEN I saw them once when I was an exchange student in Germany. It was in 2000 at the Leipzig 'With Full Force' festival. It was a blast and it was right after Bruce had rejoined. I'd love to see them again. I doubt that they're going to be around for another 10 years.
