  1. Didn't like them at first, but I enjoy them a lot better now. Largely still a pretty unique and instantly recognizable band. That said, I absolutely refuse to monetarily support a band who give money to the Sea Shepherds. I do remember liking "L'Enfant Sauvage", though.

  2. Geez, maybe don't shit on the one band this fella's said he likes the second he hops on the forum... I mean, we're not Encyclopedia Metallum and in fact I distinctly recall a lot of our more prominent members saying that's what they liked about this place. Last I recall TBDM sounded kinda like a more simpler Sadist. Man, they must have undergone some drastic style changes if they sound like Epica now...

Might surprise you @ButterLettuss but usually I'm considered the grouchy one hereabouts. Apart from Relentless, anyway.

  3. "Tage Mahal" by Jon Oliva's Pain.

Yet another artist I severely underappreciated way back when I first heard them. I can't say I'm sold on the brilliance of Savatage, but I do like this project. Yeah, it sounds almost exactly like a metal (and from the sounds of it, very Catholic) version of Queen - but what the hell, Queen were good composers and JOP explore that sound a decent amount. Good inspiration for the story idea I have.

  4. My first couple gigs were to an Evangelical youth conference somehow intended to inculcate lasting spiritual fervor via two days of very earnest short-haired men providing analogies about fish and defecation punctuated by live sets from nu-metal bands. The best it ever got was one mediocre rock band suddenly breaking into the solo from "Carry On My Wayward Son". I think the miracle is that my faith survived this instead of immediately shriveling up like a boner in the presence of Miley Cyrus.

First metal gig was Fallujah, BTBAM and Devin Townsend, so that wasn't a bad initiation.

  5. Overwatch isn't pay to win, although people do shell out for lootboxes for cosmetic items because they've got no patience and are idiots. It's really fun but can get extremely frustrating if you and your team don't coordinate well. My first time ever playing online, as a matter of fact, so my gaming skills have improved dramatically since I started.

Wait since when were you funny? Literally made my day and it's only 7am.

I've watched so many videos from those Australian YouTube Overwatch players (Skid, Gymwizard, MrMetaMeme, Cheesypuff, etc) that I now have a decent handful of Australian imitations that I employ regularly...

As for what's on my mind...I've had a bunch of nice things happen in the last couple days. Busy planning an interview, and recently finished up my first GRE practice - from the rudimentary calculations I did on my raw scores it looks like I should be comfortably within the average range for admitted students in every single program to which I'm applying. Might even exceed it depending on how well the rest of my prep goes.

My friend also made me a visual novel for my birthday and the project is so huge that I clocked 5 hours yesterday 'playing' through it and I'm still less than halfway done. He had a number of absolutely phenomenal jokes and choice writing, my jaw and stomach started cramping from laughing so hard for so long. Really looking forward to the rest of it.

Well it's mighty hot here in R'Lyeh today, humid too, Cthulhu loves it but I could do with cooler conditions.

Conceptualizing Australian Cthulu gives me a chuckle...

  8. "On Strange Loops" by Mithras.

Once I got past the first two tracks I liked this a lot better. I still think the first two are too monotonous. Very tempted to compare this with Australian band Alchemist (the only group other than Earth Electric to do psychedelic in a style that even remotely appeals to me), particularly on their "Trypsis" album. The ragged spacey roar is common to both bands on both albums and I love it. Incidentally, I remember disliking what I perceived as the monotony of Trypsis on the first couple listens as well. Gotta give this more attention.

Lol iceni or the ntnr of pop music lol it’s great having you back buddy i really missed you busting my chops on here you still got it buddy

I know you've got some fondness for country, you like "Honey I'm Good" by Andy Grammer? Used to dislike it but the lyrics are fantastic. I absolutely love the song's premise of a married man charmingly turning down sex from anyone but his wife, and the framing device of an analogy to alcohol works nicely. Catchy song too.

Personally I can’t stand uptown funk that song was overplayed way too much    I happen to like two chain smokers songs the one with Florida Georgia line and something like this with Coldplay

Man you're like the ReturntoCarthage of pop music, your tastes are all backwards. Uptown Funk did get overplayed but it's still a pretty solid tune IMO.

By contrast, I absolutely hate Chainsmokers, but that could be overexposure. They're really well-liked here. Definitely don't like "Something Like This". Listening to "Last Day Alive" now, it's nowhere near as terrible as I expected. Chorus is kinda limp-wristed but otherwise not bad. Vocals are probably autotuned but I do like those harmonies.

I like that Flo-Rida Wild Ones song :D

I was talking about "My House" actually, though I gotta say it was disappointing to listen to the lyrics and hear it was addressed to a romantic prospect rather than an old friend.

He actually plays quarter-tone guitars. I love how he weaves those creepy off-time melodies together. My favorite of his quarter-tone stuff is Discontinuities.

Man, those are some goofy-looking fretboards.

"Undulating Waves of Rainbiotic Iridescence" by Gigan. It's Gigan, it's good.
