For what it's worth, your post was relevant/topical to me. Quite surprised it is so bad, although I don't think Dave Jnr has a great quality barometer. If he wanted a real viable band he wouldn't have called it Kings of Thrash. Nevertheless I definitely would have gone/will go to see these guys playing live if they come close by. Because it would be classic Megadeth songs in a sweaty basement bar. I'm really not interested in seeing the supposed real Megadeth in an arena with average recent material and underperforming old songs. But up close and personal with a couple of the guys that actually played Hook in Mouth would be pretty cool.

It's weird, the CD almost sounds like a different person singing. I've watched most of the videos Jnr has released and they singing isn't anywhere near as bad as the CD. I can't udnerstand why the released those songs on the CD when the videos sound so much better.

Jnr's obviously just doing whatever he wants these days, but I agree Kings Of Thrash is such a stupid name. They usually play the first two albums, one original and then often a Metallica/Anthrax/Slayer medley to close it out. From what I've been able to tell Jnr and Poland turn up all the time but Young doesn't.

Dave's performance in Melbourne last week wasn't too bad from what I've seen (side gig, not the festival). He obviously chooses his songs carefully so as not to spend too much time in a registry he can't but he did sound alright for a 60+ yr old guy not that long out of cancer treatment

I had a dubbed video tape from an Australian music show (Rage?) of Cenotaph and it always defined what Bolt Thrower is to me.

That would have been about the only show for 25 years that did play Bolt Thrower.

Dave really needs to let the beef die for his, Megadeth, and Metallica's sake. That goes for the media as well.

I don't think Mustaine's comment hurt Metallica. Lars might have lost a few friends with the whole credits fight on the re-release albums but Mustaine's comments do little to Metallica, they harm his brand more. And for a guy who wants people to think his brand is superior he sure is naive.

One of the problems with the media is the amount of it. Yeah free speech and all that shit, but when there is 500 different outlets it makes for story longevity, the 24 hour news cycle becomes 12 months. Some one asks Dave today if he's still bitter about Metallica and for the next 12 months people who haven't interviewed him since the last album/tour cycle decide they need to see what they can get out of him on the subject. By the time it's gone around any print media, the filth sites like Blabbermouth etc, guitar magz, and then the hundreds of pod casts that get hold of him it's been dragged up so many times he forgets what he said the first time.

Same goes for many musicians and people who are in high demand for media attention. There are so many pod casts these days that only a handful of them need to ask a musician what happened at their last controversial event and it's a 6 month story.

  3. Yeah he has. The difference now is that he's adding extra details. Sometimes he's adding the details to make Lars and James look like evil bastards who crumpled everything. Other times he's adding the detail to make it look like he actually won by getting on the bus and heading home. He doesn't shit on Kirk that much, and he's mostly respectful to Cliff, but it's the new details, details which often contradict previous stuff he's said, that keep it entertaining.

  4. I saw this article the other day. Dave really doesn't help himself any more.

There is no denying what he's done over his career. There's no denying the success of Megadeth. But every time he opens his mouth he's got to put his foot in it. Many of his stories these days even contradict himself.

I don't know why he's been so transfixed on Metallica stories over the past few years but he's never short of one. Most of the time it's the media asking the same questions over and over, but lately for Dave he's been instigating the Metallica talk.

He's like the anti-Scott Ian. Scott spends all his time kissing Metallica's arse and banging on about all their history. Dave spends his time complaining about Metallica and saying they owe him something

...and for the record, the shoulder is not, I repeat...NOT a third lane!

If it's like Australia the shoulder is the fast lane!!

Yeah the New York City metroploitan area is estimated at 23.6 million and covers parts of 4 states. That's practically all of Australia clustered around one city. It's gotten out of hand and become unmanageable. Google Maps tells me I'm 55 miles out (88km) in the farthest NW corner of NJ now, not far from Pennsylvania, but I'm pretty sure I'm still included within that NY metro statistical area. There are definitely people out here who commute back and forth into the city every day. Glad I'm not one of them.

There is people not far from me who commute 2 and a half hours to the city every day to work. Fuck that!! I used to spend 10-14 hours a day driving but that was my job, no fucking way I'd drive 2 hours just to get to work.

Well in actuality I did kinda bait him to bait me so I could then 'go for it' but now I don't really want to anymore because he's being a dickhead about it. And you folks down under there are all sleeping now anyway at 3:30 am because I guess I'm the only idiot insomniac who stays up all night listening to black metal and baiting Orcas.

Baiting? You were desperate for a 3am conversation about a band you wont like who plays the music of a guy you hate. I was saving you the early morning effort of replying with a 500 word diatribe about how terrible the album was or how MegaDave is not your favourite person. I was letting you take the initiative of using Google only if you wanted to, not force feeding you a bunch of information that was irrelevant to you. I thought I was doing you a favour by not providing you an encyclopaedic like story of something you'd have zero interest in. Now I know your feelings on the matter I'll be sure never to provide a description in my post ever again.

    NP: Nothing, I'm too upset

  7. Someone who would be interested would already know who Kings are, they aren't gaining new fans by word of mouth.

We can still have a conversation about them if that's what you want but I really can't see it being much of a conversation given that I think the album sucks and by default of your dislike of MegaDave and most of his music probably means you'll dislike Kings as well.

  8. Kings Of Thrash - Best Of The West

I didn't expect Megadeth of the 80's. I didn't expect Megadeth of today, but holy shit I certainty didn't expect it to be this fucking bad. The music sounds tight enough (to this tone deaf old fart with poor hearing), but the vocals are fucking terrible.

I watched a video of Megadeth recorded in Melbourne this week and even Dave's vocals of today are better than whoever the fuck is singing on this album. It can't be easy imitating Mustaine and there is moments of 'almost okay' but for the most part I still can't stand whoever this is.

  9. It's Lower East Bum Fuck, and if I have heard any nu-metal it's never been by choice and I've never taken any notice of it. The only radio I listen to is the land reports and weather on the national broadcaster, but even if I had a choice there is only about 5 radio stations I can receive here. Maybe there has been times that I have heard these bands on TV but I wouldn't have known who they were and I was probably channel surfing and spending only a few seconds on each channel. I've heard that rolling rolling bit on tv adverts, but not cared enough to find out who it is or what genre it might be. So yeah maybe I have heard a hundred of these nu-metal bands before but that doesn't mean I know who they are or what they play

  10. Wow, that's a perfect case of 'never judge a book by it's cover'. Upon first look at the still image I thought that was going to be some crap I didn't like. After listening to it I know it's some crap I don't like.

It appears the closest I've come to nu-metal is Sepultura's Roots but apparently that's only called nu-metal by 'some people'. Apparently MegaDave said he'd rather have his eye brows pulled out than listen to nu-metal. I don't listen to everything Megadave says but I think that's enough of a warning for me to stay away.

"Judas Priest!" was the exclamation a lot of people my parents' age used when they wanted to say "Jesus Christ!" but they were worried about taking the Lord's name in vain and possibly even risking going to hell. Just like some older folks said shoot or sugar instead of shit or fudge instead of fuck or heck instead of hell. They must've really thought god was up there taking notes on how many times they cursed. Don't want to be taunting god now.

Before turning my computer off last night I was thinking about Jono's Priest comment and how the name never really bothered me or anyone I knew. But yeah it was an exclamation. I haven't thought about people using it for decades but your post reminded me instantly of multiple people.
