Reality is not always what sounds rational at the time.

Humans became humans via eating meat. Humans ate animal based for 2 million years, then since the time humans started growing plant foods, the human brain has been shrinking.

You might want to check that math. Humans in their present modern form with some debate have only been around for about 2-300,000 years. We're relative babies. Civilization-a scant 6,000 years or so. I think you're talking about first homo group of which humans sprang from-but that was basically a primate human-like hominid ancestor. The only thing that distinguishes them was walking upright and climbing trees. Who knows what the fuck they ate?

If you're into Debussy and you like solo piano, I highly recommend Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli's recordings of his Preludes and Images. A pianist friend also recommended the Gieseking recordings of the same material but the Michelangeli versions have some serious atmosphere. I've also been totally hooked on Schoenberg's "Verklärte Nacht". Prog before prog. Really inspiring.

Ah, I'll search around for that. I've got Paul Crossley's complete Debussy piano works but it doesn't seem to be one of the go-to  reference recordings. BTW, have you ever had a jazz/classical or non metal thread or just dump all the "listening to now" here? Cheers and happy Monday-blah!

The new one is good. I was pretty surprised to find out it had come out. I follow him on bc and still didn't get an alert or anything.

I stumbled on a meh review on AMG and put in my Bandcamp. I think I did see it earlier but only one track was released. The whole album is up on Spotify which means I can listen on my mains rather than stream on my PC.

NP -Dinosaur Jr. -Sweep it Into Speace-this should be "new purchases" for me me but I'm being lazy. This one has a great loose almost power pop alt rock sound with Mascis signature alternative rock meets Neil  Young's Crazy Horse harder edged sound of which I count myself a fan.

I've seen this described under a couple of genre tags, but I'm going to go with Encyclopedia Metallum's post-doom tag (whatever the fuck that is). Excellently weird shit from South Africa.

    Ophiuchi - Shibboleth

His first album is delightfully unsettling. This song in particularly fun on a dark night with a good set of headphones.

    Ophiuchi - Bifurcaria Bifurcata

Nice Navy. I've got Bifurcaria Bifurcata.  Wouldn't have guessed you'd like these guys, but you've got diverse tastes. Cool album. Haven't followed them since this one came out.

What's your verdict on this release? Is it overhyped indeed or is it a brilliant signing from Century Media?

Bhleg - Ödhin (Recommended on the metal-fi page)

I dig it. But I tend to enjoy the intersection of folk and black metal.

Just agreed to buy a pair of LCD-2C used from a dude on Head-fi for $560. They sell for $799 new on Amazon. He says it's the best bass he's ever heard in a headphone,  so as somewhat of a bass head myself I'm encouraged. Waiting for him to invoice me

This is a very positive development.  Goatworthy and far beyond the horned herd pastures of endless blackened death....not that those pastures aren't opportunities of wonderous gorging. Metal shall be delivered with proper horned fidelity.

  7. There's some cool funeral doom bands as well I could have listed. I tend to think of doom as with traditional doom (St. Vitus, Candlemass, Pentagram) and stoner doom which I do like (Sleep, Acid King, Goatsnake, etc.). But there's a dearth of great bands I like that have doom as a hyphen but aren't really doom specific- death doom which I love but isn't really "doom" in my mind (Asphyx looking at you), doom on the sludge side which I can't call specifically doom but I love or so called "hard doom"....one of my favorite trends has been what gets called blackened sludge but definitely has doom elements-(Triptykon-eh sort of, Mizmor, Lord Mantis to some extent).

  8. well, well, well....I finally made here. Thanks to my M-F brothers for yanking my ass across the digital divide. I live in the Baltimore-DC greater region. I'm avid paddler and instruct part time for a paddle sports outfitter mostly on the Potomac river in whitewater. Professionally, I'm a transition special educator working with 18-21 years young adults with developmental disabilities.

Back in 2012, I started posting on Head-Fi's metal thread with my desire to find new metal and put together a sound system that would allow me to digitize and access every single piece of music I owned on disc....and have it not sound like garbage....and wound up very active on Metal-Fi.

I don't care much about genres following my muse wherever it takes me-metal-rock-classical-jazz-punk --in truth I'm more of a music fan who happens to listen to some metal than a "metalhead". Much of the stuff I like is metal-adjacent and frequently genre shape-shifting, wanky and posty. I do like doom, sludge, weird ass heavy music and OSDM among other things. Praise Satan for the goat crew I've fallen in with who help ensure I listen to some actual metal.

    Cheers!
