  1. It looks like we're going to go by our personal experiences. So I can see what every person is saying and see that they're all right, based on experience.

I've been in the metal scene for around 30 years and I can relate mostly to Depraved's experience. It's true that there appears to be a much bigger female fanbase in gothic styles of metal, but all others seems to have a significantly less female fanbase.

I have heard some people in bands make sexist comments and also see that macho meat head mentality among some metal heads, but I would say that's the few among many, many others that aren't like that at all.

Man, I can't play or do vocals after drinking anymore. I just don't enjoy it. My favorite vocal exercises for growling are actually clean singing warmups, I find that I have a lot more control if I spend some time doing those first.

I've never thought to try clean singing warm ups hahaha. Might give it a go for something different.
My warm ups have been screams and growls at a low volume so no-one thinks there's someone being killed behind or side of stage. :D

They might say. Were not fecking Metallica. 🤬Tbh such a reaction would be worth it in my book. Especially if they were overly emotional. You never know could work.

Apparently swimming can be good for vocal technique. Apparently something to do with learning to control  breathing better  can help improve vocal power alot 🎤🎶🤪 svalbards singer mentioned it in interview in recent metal magazine I got.

That sounds like it could be a good technique to help with breathing. Getting your breathing right is very important. I've only ever done one show drunk. I hated it, because I was messing up my breathing patterns.

  4. Appetite For Destruction was big one for me too. Still one of my favourite rock albums.

Alice Cooper - Trash. Although I don't like this album anymore, it was the game changer for me. It sparked something in me that led to getting into heavier music.

Aerosmith - Pump / Toys In The Attic / Rocks are still great records for me.

Metallica - ...And Justice For All. I probably prefer Master Of Puppets and Ride The Lightning, but And Justice was what got me into Metallica and still holds a special place with me.

Slayer - Decade Of Aggression. This is what got me into Slayer. I don't listen to them that much these days, but still really dig this album (live record).

Sepultura - Arise. Before hearing this, the heaviest stuff I listened to was Metallica and Slayer. Arise blew my mind and took metal to another level for me. This is probably what kicked off my journey of getting into the more extreme forms of metal.

Napalm Death - Death By Manipulation
Brutal Truth  - Extreme Conditions Demand Extreme Responses.
When I was about 16 a couple of older friends showed me this Napalm Death and this Brutal Truth album and from that moment on I've loved them.

    Damaged - Do Not Spit
    In:Extremis - Skin Thick Vision.
I heard Damaged and In:Extremis on the radio one night around 1995 or something like that and I loved it. These albums are still in my favourite metal releases.

Yowie good to hear from you.

I've listened more to the cremated enemy  album and it's more death metal for me. Real classic stuff reminds me of obituary in places. Something about some of solos especially.  When I listen to devils spawn that's got a big lamb of God sound in there. The tunes amazing though, so catchy. May well Check out newer stuff onyou tube. Thanks

    Thanks for singing tips. ?

Yeah definitely if you've got project I'd be interested and no doubt a few others including ludo would be too.

Thanks man! Devil Spawn is definitely the most popular song with people.

Will let you when there's any progress with the project.

I bought your album so have been rocking out to it a few times. It's got such good production too. It's really  impressive. I reckon you could charge more for it as I paid more than minimum price. Re album It kind of reminds me a bit of that Gothenburg sound in places. Do you know what I mean. In flames those sort of bands. It's only parts of it though.still what vocals. Really good.

Are you still in this band?

Also Do you do any warm ups with your vocals as I've heard it can help.i only do metal singing in the car when I'm driving tired ?

re the name that makes complete sense. Cremated enemy about war and political stuff. Thanks for info.

im in no band at moment. Although may end up doing some music with my mate on zoom. I know it sounds crazy and probably is ?Just for fun music though tbh. Not your level.

Thanks heaps for purchasing the album :)

It's definitely got that melodic style in places. Yeah, I'm still in the band. We have written some new material that's heavier. Haven't got to recording it yet. I think you might find one of the newer songs of YouTube if you searched Amagon, Stop The Insane. There's some footage from a gig someone got with their phone. So it's not the greatest quality, but it'll give you an example of the newer material.

I usually try to do some warm ups just before singing by doing some growls and screams, but not at full volume. I have found drinking something warm can be helpful too.

I'm hoping to a side project of some more faster death / grind stuff. I'll keep you posted.

Good to hear from you yowie. That makes you most determined metal fan I know. I see most of my gigs in London.  Very easy 60 mins commute in to most north London gigs. Which part of world are you from is it Australia?

Also interesting point re Max voice. You'd think you'd go lower as you get older but maybe his lungs have lost some of there power after all the use he's given them. 2nd hand Smoke from performing gigs won't help his lungs much either

Yep, I live in Australia. In north Queensland.

Cheers yowie for the link to your music. You've got an impressive range of roars. I can do just the a couple of roars. The musics good too but not had much listen so far. Cremated enemy is a brilliant title. Think alot of people can relate to that especially after you've been wronged,  punisher has loyal following because when required he nearly always gets revenge.

    Thanks ?

Are you in a band at the moment?

The Cremated Enemy song I believe originally started out as a revenge song, but the former singer had no lyrics for it so I had to get some done quickly. I had some lyrics I'd written before joining Amagon which are political  / about corruption in war and weapons manufacturing that I felt still fit the title, so they got used for that song.

Scotland - Alestorm and Gloryhammer. The first of which have about 6 albums and are in the Scottish Pirate Metal genre, or at least that's what I call them. They are definitely more understood from a Scottish citizen's point of view. But they are fun

Have you heard Bulletbelt? A sort of thrashy death metal band.  I'm sure they are from Australia. Rise Of The Banshee and Nine Centuries are great albums but are with a now former singer. Not too hot on their new lineup. I discovered them on the soundtrack to the indie movie Deathgasm

I had a listen to Bulletbelt. Not bad.

    They are from New Zealand

Nah, I'm pretty sure I haven't heard them. But will check them out.

Definitely next on my list of priorities is test out that new drill at work, goes through concrete like butter hopefully ? and listen to some of your amagon music. Cool.

Yowie have you posted any of your music on this site.

I think I did post it somewhere on here before. Here's a link, anyway https://amagon.bandcamp.com/album/cremated-enemy

True mettalica followed by sepultura is a mind blower. First time I heard sepultura. It was Territory. I thought it was a monster singing.ha ha. I was truly shocked but was a big fan soon enough

Would you see sepultura if they played at city near you. For ages I was like no way. I'm coming round to the idea and only taken me 20 odd years ? although seeing soulfly is  cool, is max better live or on cd.

arise is pretty cool album. For a while when I listened to them most days after work arise felt like there most complete and mature album. Sort of like a peak. Obviously the catchy riffs helped. I'm pretty sure macabre eternal has done a very good review on this album on this forum too. It's there somewhere. Worth a read if you find it.

I would definitely go see Sepultura if they came to a city near me. We don't get many big bands come to or near where I live, especially big metal bands. I usually have to travel about 1,400 kilometers to see big metal bands that I like.

Max was great live back then. It was 20 years ago. I think his voice has changed a bit since. He doesn't go as low as he used to.
