Re: Top 10 Heavy Metal Albums 2011-The Metal Voice
Let me explain to you how death metal vocals came to be. It all started in the 70- 80’s, with punk and speed metal, with celtric frost, voivod , black flag ect...Basically guys wanted to join bands but could not sing properly so they screamed instead to cover up their inability and insecurities and need to stand out of the crowd, in turn this caused a sort of new category of metal called death metal. The vocals got harsher and harsher up to this day. The only problem with death metal vocals are that everyone screams the same way, a scream is a scream. Sure it is effective and sounds good in songs but there is no tone, no range and no difference. I don’t hate or love death metal vocals but i think it is limited. A voice is an instrument and death vocals would be the equivalent of playing two cords on a guitar over and over again, not much of a musical challenge.
