  1. Re: Top 10 Heavy Metal Albums 2011-The Metal Voice You guys make a good point that the more someone is exposed to a certain genre the more they can notice the subtitle differences. Not sure about your statement about Lemmy though. Lemmy Started in a band called Hawkwind which was a prog band where he sang clean. Punk music is where the root of harsh vocals came from, the whole idea was plug and play and where Lemmy was somewhat influenced Not sure who old all of you are but I remember the end of the harsh vocal punk movement and the beginning of the harsh vocal metal movement. ACDC and Nazareth were the first to go mainstream with melodic screaming and from there it kept going more extreme to today. Like I said I don’t hate or love the style I am neutral, I think it has a place and I like it when bands like Opeth go back and forth between clean and harsh. I guess I am getting old and like it when a vocalist use their voices in different ways, ranges and tones. But to each his own, there is no wrong or right just music
  2. Re: Top 10 Heavy Metal Albums 2011-The Metal Voice Let me explain to you how death metal vocals came to be. It all started in the 70- 80’s, with punk and speed metal, with celtric frost, voivod , black flag ect...Basically guys wanted to join bands but could not sing properly so they screamed instead to cover up their inability and insecurities and need to stand out of the crowd, in turn this caused a sort of new category of metal called death metal. The vocals got harsher and harsher up to this day. The only problem with death metal vocals are that everyone screams the same way, a scream is a scream. Sure it is effective and sounds good in songs but there is no tone, no range and no difference. I don’t hate or love death metal vocals but i think it is limited. A voice is an instrument and death vocals would be the equivalent of playing two cords on a guitar over and over again, not much of a musical challenge. You got some good picks there Let us review your list.......
