Glencoe was the most amazing place I have ever seen.  It was thick with snow and really low cloud going up to Loch Ness which gave it such a threatening atmosphere.  Coming back down it was clearer and absolutely captivating.

I get married next year around the corner from Anfield - not a football fan but I had to book the date around availability of when the Liverpool players weren't using the venue.  Small world.

Small world indeed, congrats on the almost marriage. Be sure to post some pics.

glencoe was really beautiful, I was there in summer 10 degrees Celsius which was freezing for me so I don’t imagine I would’ve done well in the snow.

Work in Scotland quite a bit so have experienced lots of the greatness the country has to offer.  Edinburgh remains my favourite city as they balance the old and the more contemporary architecture so well.  We usually try to stay at the Witchery right up by the castle when we go.  Glasgow by comparison is just so grotty.  Spent time last year up at Loch Ness in a cottage and was glad of my waterproofs.  Dundee has had a ton of regeneration work done and now looks quite stylish, especially down by the river front.  Aberdeen has very consistent if not quite dreary architecture I find but still has some decent hotels.  Whereabouts in Scotland did you visit?

Started the UK trip in Liverpool (Anfield tour and a Beatles fan).

started Scotland with Glasgow then road trip took us to Loch Lomond, Oban, Glencoe, Fort William, isle of Skye, Inverness, Cairngorms, Edinburgh.

    The highlands was spectacular.

Melbourne has a great local metal venue called the Bendigo Hotel, which I frequent probably once a fortnight and @True Belief, the god amongst men, also attends from time to time.

They have local metal bands playing at least twice a week, about four or five bands a night, and it's surprisingly amenable. The front bar also plays metal hits over the PA.

Happy to show you around if you want a business trip with with a metallic twist.

    Sounds perfect.

Probably better than my usual docklands  walks playing music abnormally loud to forget the workday had.

Live in Sydney in 2019 (from memory):

Dimmu Borgir, Emperor, Cradle of Filth, Dark Funeral, Wintersun, Insomnium, Eluveitie, Watain, Destroyer 666, Devildriver, Metal Church, Bloodbath, Immolation, Korpiklaani, Mayhem, Slayer, Ghost, Judas Priest, Alice in Chains, Anthrax, Behemoth, Opeth, Mortuus, Marty Friedman, Apocalyptica, Soilwork, KISS, Sevendust, Avantasia, Candlemass, At the Gates, Psycroptic, Anaal Nathrakh and on and on on.....

Are you sure you're keeping track of metal bands that are touring Australia? There's a lot of great stuff out there beyond Iron Maiden and Metallica.

Let me know if you're in Melbourne ever. I'll buy you a drink and show you around.

There’s no doubt I’ve been out of the loop re what’s on offer in Australia. I guess that’s what I’m After. Spent too long all study and work with no play (not that it’s a bad thing, stay in school kids! Just prioritise better).

I’m clearly following the wrong pages for gig info. I’m in NSW but I travel to Melbourne a bit for work so will have to check out more bands. Thanks for the tips, next Melbourne work trip will certainly be more entertaining.

Unfortunately not.  I was too young in their heyday and I do have this (perhaps very silly) notion about only seeing bands live in their heyday.  Also I have some hearing challenges due to errant headphone behaviour when I was younger, so live music can be uncomfortable for me - even if I could get over myself.  I stick with my copy of  Live After Death.

I saw them 3 years ago when I was 31 and it was quite possibly the greatest concert I’ve been to but I could understand the heyday part. As long as you can enjoy the music, the setting doesn’t matter.

I’m seeing Metallica for the first time in a few months so will be interesting to see, slipknot opening for them.

We take what we can get in Australia, not many people travel down under.

Hi, welcome.  A solid top 5 there.  I recently wrote reviews for another site of the first seven Maiden albums.  It was great going back through the catalogue.

Are you considering taking the music writing into being in a band or just keeping it as a hobby?  We have threads here for artists looking to collaborate and also lots of recommendation threads (pinned at the top of each section usually) if you are looking to pick up new bands.

I wrote quite a bit back in my band days as a lead vocalist but I enjoyed it so much better as a hobby.

Thanks, I’ll check out the threads regarding new bands and would be interesting to read some of the collaborations or even take part in it.

have you seen Iron Maiden live? Or i take it that’s perhaps a ridiculous question.
