Hey folks,
I first got turned onto real metal back in 1989 when I was 11 years old. One fateful spring day, by pure chance, I stumbled upon the video for Metallica's 'One' and pretty much shit myself. My dad was on the other side of the house and as soon as the video was over I ran over to him and said "dad! Dad! There's this band I just saw, you gotta buy me the album! Please please please!!!" And he was like "we'll see, son. What're they called?" "Metallica!" He did a double-take and said to himself "oh God, no. It's too early for this shit!" He eventually broke down and bought me 'Justice', and I threw out all my Motley Crue and Warrant tapes, and never looked back. He drew the line at Slayer, though. I had to finagle that one for myself.
Now I'm in my mid-30s and I've been out of the loop for a while. If you pressed me to name some metal bands that are current nowadays I'd go "ummmm, Agolloch, High on Fire, Amon Armath, ummmmm, shit, hold on...." I figured it was about time I got myself reintegrated. So I'm here.
