Yeah.. For me to get to anything past the Loop, it usually takes over an hour, since I have to get to the Loop first to transfer, and then get from the Loop to whatever neighborhood I'm aiming for. By car, if there isn't bad traffic, it would take maybe 30 minutes. There's also the fact that the Red Line is not fun at night, and the bus stops at midnight... CTA pls.

Actually, a ridiculously well-off suburb of Houston. It's like Austin, but boring.

Really? The final fight of Gurren Lagann would blow all of those out of the water. Other good fights include the Death City vs. Arachne Fortess fight from Soul Eater' date=' Kurapika vs. Uvogin from HunterxHunter, and Homura vs. Walpurgis from Madoka Magica.[/quote'] I saw the Gurren Lagann movie in Japan. That shit was crazy. Any fight with Roy is a good fight in FMA

"According to Buzzfeed" I'm originally from Texas; I'm sure it has a lot to say about that, too... But I'm not from Texas Texas, so none of it would apply.

I'm aware, that's why I'm sad. It sure would be nice to have in major areas, though. The CTA is ridiculously slow.

Given that I wasn't around until this moment, I wasn't arrested. I use my super programming skills to hack your personal computer (so in other words, I use the tried and true method of calling you up, impersonating an entity you trust, and acquiring your data free of effort) and expose the fraudulent activity of your hotel and casino. As a reward, I am given the property. Mine! I can use it to host conventions, I guess.

hasn't talked to me enough ((about prog))

I like the kind-of-old, second-hand Audi my parents have back at home well enough. They're nice cars, but replacing parts is a nightmare. If I ever get a car where I live, though, I doubt it will be one since that takes money. My stupid not-answer is that my dream is to not need a car because the US actually bothers to get high-speed rail...

But that's so much cooler than one variety in the same box. On the topic of my rant, though, I should probably talk to him about everything (there being more than the original post, really) after I get back from vacation, and it will probably result in a breakup, so I guess I'd better prepare myself...It's just two different varieties in the same box. -
Oh shit, a picture thread! Oversized shirts are the best though. I should have saved some from when I wore a lot of T-shirts. Nice design on that one, I'm jealous. ...aaaaaand it's my face in a library. Because I work there and why not. Edit: Fixed it nvm

I didn't even know Duoz were a thing, will keep in mind.

Solid score, I'll take it. *bows*As the forum's Complainer-In-Chief (also known by the informal title Your Royal Cantankerousness) I give that vent an 8/10.
Cheez-its recommendations?Don't look at me, I've yet to even meet someone of the opposite sex with more than one of my interests. Or one who doesn't approach me wearing a combat vest and carrying a big stick. Then again, don't look to me for advice at any time, unless you need some help in understanding theology, war, military technology, philosophy or African politics. ...or finding the best value for money on cheese-flavored snacks. -
The killer rabbit had friends. They gang up on Elmer and tear him to shreds. But with amusing cartoon flair! Rabbits' hill, for now. Which of them will prevail?

Probably also smells of elderberries

I just had another conversation with the guy I'm seeing on a theme that seems to be pretty common the longer I know him: things I'm deeply interested in that he has no interest in, outwardly dislikes, or even likes the exact opposite of. It's not that I have anything against differences, but when it comes to best friends and relationships, I'm happiest with people who share a significant number of interests--if not the majority of their interests--with me, with those smaller differences that make the person, you know, not me sprinkled throughout. People who don't share as much inevitably never get as close, though they're still fabulous friends. A big part of the problem is that my ex was pretty much everything I would look for in a partner--a similar way of thinking (but not so similar it clashed), was going to college for game programming (which is what I'd like to pursue after getting my CS degree), perfect sense of humour. He's the person who got me into prog and metal. It ended pretty terribly, though, when his depression interfered--he broke down one evening, saying he couldn't handle a relationship, and hasn't spoken to me since. It was sort of long distance, so it was very easy for him to disappear on me. The guy I'm seeing now, though, finds the music I like triggering (as much as I hate that word), often seems not to be on the same page, has only a casual interest in games, and so on. But he's also incredibly affectionate, understanding (I can tell he wants to get what I'm saying, even if he has trouble), and not so far off that we don't have anything at all to do or talk about. But I feel the disconnect pretty acutely sometimes, like right now. I feel like my previous relationship ruined my standards by raising them to an unrealistic height. But the fact there there's only a very slim chance that I'll find someone at my university that would reach anything near the level of connection that my ex did is so low that leaving this relationship also feels undesirable--we've been together 6 months; I like him a lot. Love him as a friend, but probably will never get to that point romantically. At what point do I end this? I really don't know. Edit: The venting comment was mostly a way for me to launch into this without it feeling sudden and therefore awkward.

I'm being hit with a wave of relationship-related doubt at the moment (happens a lot, really). Permission to vent?

For one reason or another Lykathea Aflame never really caught my attention' date=' but I'll check the rest of their stuff out. I'm listening to the Vektor right now and enjoying it, it reminds me of early Quo Vadis and any resemblance to Quo Vadis is always great.[/quote'] I found about Lykathea Aflame just a few days ago and was hooked. I'm liking Vektor quite a bit; I see what you mean about the resemblance.

Welcome' date=' I dig a number of those bands as well, most especially Darkspace, DsO, and EoS. I've known a few Chicago metal people, and know that the scene is huge there and loaded with good bands, so I'm surprised that you're having a tough time finding like minded music fans.[/quote'] It mainly has to do with the exact area I'm in/my University, since we're not right in the city and are pretty much the antithesis of a creative school. I bet there are a shit ton of people at Columbia College who would love to talk to me about music, but I no longer have any connections there thanks to some stuff that happened. Kind of sucks. The other issue is that I don't really enjoy going to concerts by myself (and would also be concerned about getting back from the city safely, since I have to go by public transport), but I'm thinking about starting, since I can't think of any other ways to meet people. (Aside from making lovely internet friends, anyway.) Also, yay Darkspace and Quo Vadis fans. (:

The Ruins of Beverast - Blood Vaults Found randomly; checking it out.

Thanks! I'm looking forward to talking to them, then.

Been looking for forums to join lately and came here. Girl hailing from the Windy City. You'd think I'd find fellow fans there, but my university is dreadfully boring, so here I am. I listen to a lot of stuff, but mostly proggy black metal/death metal, non-prog of the same, prog metal (extreme or otherwise), and whatever else I feel like. I feel like I got into most genres too recently to have real favorites, but I like Darkspace, Oranssi Pazuzu, Edge of Sanity, Quo Vadis, Pain of Salvation, Deathspell Omega, Emperor, Enslaved, and scores of other things besides. Talents include writing stupid signatures, playing video games, programming, and playing instruments that aren't metal at all. Mainly grand pianos. Nice to meet you all!

It's more that lately I've been listening to a lot of that. I listen to a lot of subgenres of prog, not just bm/dm or even metal at all, and am always open to listening to more. I can list some things I have, if it helps. I adore Yes. ELP is great. Dream Theater is what got me into prog, but I don't listen to them as often now--still a fan, though. Pain of Salvation I mentioned in my intro. Jethro Tull, Rush, Procupine Tree, Steven Wilson, King Crimson, Pink Floyd, Opeth, Deep Purple...a lot of typical stuff, I assume. Oh, and Ayreon is cool. When it comes to progressive fusion I like Planet X, but that's also about all I've listened to so far. Avant garde is a genre I keep meaning to explore more but haven't quite gotten to yet. I sort of got into black/death stuff right before I would have, so my prog black/death collection is a little more rounded-out at the moment. I need more lesser-known prog works.
