  1. Iceni, Thanks for your input, I would agree, it is an amazingly complex form of music which by nature has the ability to morph and grow into many different things. I see it more as "structured avant-garde" I always loved Dream Theater's title Systematic Chaos for that reason. The idea that the music can go anywhere but there is still a form to it. Thanks again, K
  2. Thanks MacabreEternal, I think you have a very interesting take about age and maturity. I have to say that I got into the prog scene when I was about 14 with Rush, but over time I have become more and more a lover of the style. I will agree with your comment about Opeth, I performed Deliverance at a clinic I did on drumming, it is such a great song. The groove especially of the last three minutes, you of course know what I am talking about is quite phenomenal. Thanks for your comment and I am going to check out the Italian prog you referred to. Cheers, K
  3. I am curious to know why people listen to progressive metal. I got into it because of Rush and then moved on to Queensryche and Dream Theater. I personally love the complexity of the music and because often the lyrics deal with real issues not just flaky stuff about how my girlfriend dumped me...!
  4. Thought I would say hello. I am an old Heavy Metal guy (50) although I don't feel old. Although I can remember when Yngwie Malmsteen, Dream Theater and Venom first came out! I love HM especially Progressive and Power Metal. But I love it all, I don't care what your stripe is, if it is Metal it is worth my time. Thanks and I hope to be putting up some questions for everyone to answer or get involved with, I will state first though, I am not a fan of lists.... Who is the best drummer, best band etc... As I find them tedious and people get upset over them, so whats the point! LOL. Talk to you all soon. Karl
