The 80's were the shit. Definitely my favorite decade so far.

Today - all Priest all day. Going to see the current tour Sunday night (this weekend is a doozy - Gatecreeper/Creeping Death Saturday, Priest on Sunday, and MDF coming up on Wednesday). So I'm starting with Rocka Rolla and going chronologically through the catalog.

Saw Priest on Screaming for Vengeance and Defenders of the Faith tours at MLG both great shows  🤘

I guess 11 is about the age when a lot of us become musically aware. Not that we don't listen to any music before that, but before 11 you're just hearing stuff here and there, would've been on the radio probably back in the day, or shit from your parents' collection or wherever, but 11-ish is where you start to develop your own musical interests and want to start collecting your own albums. I turned 11 in '72 so my options were pretty limited as far as heavy music went. NY radio back then was obsessed with soft-cock singer songwriter crap, James Taylor, Elton John, Springsteen & Paul Simon...so even something we now think of as fairly innocuous like Zeppelin was relegated to 2am rogue DJs, other than Stairway of course, they were just too hard to get any daytime airplay. That had changed somewhat by the 80's, but I was grown by then and could drive to the local independent record store. Still jealous you guys had metal in high school though.

My uncle was had friends in a band back in the early 70's and they were always listening to Sabbath, Heep, Zep, Pie and Budgie as a child that was my introduction to heavier music and it was definitely a huge influence in my musical journey.

  3. Was with my youngest son trying out guitars, he bought his first and it was a Kramer Baretta. Was really surprised how good this thing played and sounded at that price, having owned a Stryker in the 90's I was not expecting much but was pleasantly surprised. Thin neck with the typical basswood body used in recent times and single humbucker in the bridge being the only pickup it leaves a lot of options for mods and upgrades, the tuners were better than expected and stays relatively in tune after dive bombing the trem. Even though it does not come with a gig bag which would have shite anyways I don't think you could get a better deal for less than $300. Wish I had this option when I was learning in the 60's 😅🤘

  4. I remember that guy, used to blow up hot water bottles. Played The Gasworks and Rock n Roll Heaven a few times, met the pyro guy outside RRH after his show and he had a box with some wooden tiles in it, said it was keepsakes, used too much in the pyro and damaged the stage  That was back when Lee Aaron, Coney Hatch and Anvil were playing in regular rotation in the bar 80' bar scenes.

Or he's found the VB...which is piss by the way.

    True, and is Thatguy approved.

But fruit flavoured beer is not beer. It's just nasty.

Having problems with my computer lately it is a 20 year old IMAC, that is my excuse and I am sticking with it

I don't know if it's worth a damn, not having tried it, but I've seen in my local that several of the better known foreign brewers like Paulaner and Weihenstephan are making non-alcoholic versions of their beer. If anyone can pull off a reliably decent tasting non-alcoholic, it's probably going to be one of them.

What's interesting about those breweries though, is because their beer is so "blah" in flavor, their quality control is absolutely topnotch. It has to be because being so lacking in actual flavor any deviation would be incredibly noticeable

Weihenstephan is without a doubt one of the best beers I have ever tasted about $6 a bottle here but worth it. That being said I try to avoid beer as much as possible and stick to clear alcohol when I drink, I lift weights and don't need those estrogen bombs in my system moobs and dickey do's are the last thing I want to be rockin. Vodka straight up with lime and soda water or Single Malt Scotch neat, vodka martini's and Black Russians are tasty too 🤘

Why so many brands? I could see in the big smoke, but out there in the bush I thought all you bogans just kept things simple and always drank VB & Jim Beam?

Never been able to find VB here in Canada, always wanted to try it. Bitter are my go to beers, my favourite used to be Tartan from Scotland, these days it is usually Abbott, Trooper, Lancaster Bomber or Spitfire. I tried one from a New York brewery War of 1812 bitter ale it was mighty tasty.

In the 90's it used to cost us $10.50 to send a CD mailer or a t-shirt to the UK, $12 to the US and Canada.

Now days it's $14.30 to the UK and $13.55 to the US. Both are economy air travel and up to about 15 days delivery.

The same CD or shirt from a UK band/label ranges from about $25-35 (converted) and from $40 to about $90 (average) from the US. If I could buy the CD or t-shirt from Amazon like I used to it would be free postage.

I used to get decent merch from Amazon but lately the selection is shite, we have quite a few places in Canada that stock decent merch but nothing obscure unfortunately. My son got some cool tees from Futhark Records in Toronto, they have a ton of rare black metal releases in all formats, he got a CD of some obscure BM band from Costa Rica last time and the owner Klaus had some BM shirts he designed he grabbed too. House of Wo Fat has tees for $20, even a few in the discount section for $7, probably going to grab a few.

I used to take stout to parties all the time in the 80's because it was the only shit that would still be left in the fridge at the end of the night. Even a piss head wouldn't drink sump oil.

Used that angle for a long time too, works like a charm until another Mick arrives which was not that often.

I've never been one for genres, they just get in the way of things, but I can definitely get along with Purple, Floyd, Crimson, Cooper etc. I was never a fan of Ted, not because I didn't like him (or knew what he'd become) more because he just wasn't on my radar. I know plenty of people cite him as a genuine influence but I'm too late to that party and his idiotic ways of the last few decades over shadow anything I could like about the guy.

Hendrix is another I never got into. Talent, sure. Great songs, maybe a few, but overall he just did nothing for me.

Saw Nugent in the 70's live a few times, awesome show, Derek St.Holmes is a beast on rhythm. My issue with Hendrix is similar to Page, really sloppy live and another thing with Hendrix live was tune for fucking guitar man seriously. Could be the drugs but that is even worse, IMHO when I pay good money to see a show you are on my dime, be professional or get the fuck off the stage, it is not much to ask. As for Hendrix roadies one of them was Meatloaf I hope he wasn't the guitar tech shite. Meatloaf also did vocals on some early Nugent material.

  9. Uriah Heap and Deep Purple for sure.Pink Floyd laid the foundation for prog even more so King Crimson were hugely influential with Court of the Crimson King in 69. Alice Cooper for Shock Rock 69. Thin Lizzy and Nazareth were touring in 69 but did not release and album until 70 so they would not qualify but were influential, especially Lizzy with their duelling guitarists. Also Amboy Dukes with Ted Nugent 67, Journey to the Centre of your mind 68 was influential in some ways on the psychedelic side of creativity.

now I'm looking for a good fuzz for the game Stoner duma. so far, I'm leaning towards the behringer superfuzz - inexpensive and cool in sound :)

Honestly if your looking for cheap and reliable I would go with a Big Muff, shit loads of sustain and some gnarly tones, wish I had not traded mine but it was too big for my board. I got mine new from Musicians Friend for $79 dollars year ago. Take note there is a glut of equipment with so much bought during covid, the manufacturers overproduced and the inventory is so high it is a buyers market and even more so in the coming months. I found an Erupter from EQD that is sought after being a limited run and out of production for a few years now. It is based off the Russian Big Muff the green one and if it is still around after I trade in some pedals it will be on my board real soon. Cheers
