Wow ahead of Drudkh and Hate Forest? Don't know if I'd say I like them that much but definitely an awesome band.

I tried but i could never really get into Drudkh. It's my own bias i think, seeing so many Drudkh patches sitting alongside Lifelover & Shining patches that gives me a bad taste in my mouth. I'll keep trying but i haven't been able to shake it yet. To be honest, i haven't heard enough of Hate Forest to make a fair judgement, any recommendations i should check out?

    Kroda are absolutely wonderful.

NP: Deicide- "Amon: Feasting the Beast"

No doubt, quickly becoming one of my favourites. The blend of delicate, traditional elements & distorted melodies has me hooked. May soon surpass Nokturnal Mortum as my favourite Ukrainian band.

Paradise Lost - ‘The Plague Within’

Beneath Broken Earth is a masterpiece. Listen to it now and truly feel the misery. MDB take note.

Nice. Have both these records (Katatonia & Paradise Lost) in my "To Listen" playlist. Will hopefully get the chance to check them out soon.

I like Iron Maiden, but as for Slayer: I do not know why, but they just bore me to tears!

Now here's one for you...I am Danish, but I just cannot stand Metallica!!! Trust me, the first thing many do when they find out that I am Danish is to start yapping about sodding Metallica! And then when they find out that I am anti-Metallica it is like...WTF????

I am happy to talk about Danish/Nordic metal, but let's talk about Mercyful Fate or King Diamond band instead. Because amongst other things unlike Metallica with just one...yes, just one...Danish member and honestly he is a bit of a prat, then things are a bit different when it comes to Mercyful Fate and King Diamond Band!!!!

    Rant over...*lol*

My family is actually from Denmark, but that's a whole different thread. lol. Anyways, I have often found the same with Slayer, i just never caught the hype. I respect their place in the history of metal it's just not for me.

I enjoy pre-black album Metallica but my interest dropped pretty quickly after that & i started looking for something heavier.

I don't really listen to much Dansk metal at all to be honest, i do enjoy the Psychobilly bands & a few of the "alternative pop" artists like Tina Dico & Dicte, etc though. I guess on the upside, at least they aren't namedropping Aqua & Mo when they find out you're Danish though.

I also recommend Ride for Revenge, Nekrokrist SS, Clandestine Blaze, Anal Blasphemy, Azazel, Enochian Crescent, Musta Surma, Musta Kappeli, and Förgjord, among others.

Cheers for the recommendations, been here barely a week and already have a rapidly growing playlist of things i haven't heard yet, i like it.

Listening to: Amputation - Achieve The Mutilation.

As i said previously, i don't know much about Death metal, so maybe by community standards this is a good demo. It's not really to my tastes, but it is cool to hear it for the historic relevance.

    Satanic Warmaster- "Strength and Honour"

    Goatmoon- "Death Before Dishonour"

Always listening to Finnish BM. Probably going to listen to more as the night goes on.

    Obscurity- "Damnation's Pride"

I actually decided to go to Sweden for some First Wave excellence.

I really need to check out more Finnish BM. I have a few lying around from Impaled Nazarene, Catamenia & Barathrum which i do enjoy, but have never really given the country the attention it deserves. I'll check out the ones you mentioned.

    Hey guys,

My name's Dragos, I'm Canadian. Favourite metal genres are speed / heavy / thrash and black/death metal, but also listen to other music as well. Been into metal about 15 years now, looking forward to chatting with others about new and old bands alike.
I've also played in about 30 projects over the years, some that did nothing more than a few rehearsals and others that got to play festivals and record full-lengths.

Want to know more? Just ask!
    Cheers,

    Dragos

Hey brother, pleasure to meet you. Welcome aboard.

I honestly haven't listened to the Demonaz or I albums. I agree that it does lack variety, though. I'll always love Abbath no matter what music he puts out though haha

They aren't too dissimilar, but they have chunkier riffs & a little more of a Black'n'roll feel which i enjoy sometimes. Haha, same. I'll still buy his stuff on name value alone, unless of course he becomes a judge on Norway's Got Talent. Then i may have to draw the line, haha.

Welcome to the forum, mate. I also like a little bit of Black Metal, such as Venom and Mayhem. Have you ever listened to the symphonic black metal band Gloomy Grim? If not, you should check them out.

Thanks my friend. I have heard Gloomy Grim, but only one track & it was a cover of Paradise Lost's "Say Just Words". I really have to check out more of their material.

haha, this is brilliant. Here is what I like about your post:

    1. Your unerring ability to make friends wherever you go.

    2. Your ability to keep drinking well after a show. I'm lucky to make it to the final song...

    3. Blasphemer being down to earth despite pinning someone to a pool table by the throat.

    4. Hellhammer's Alice Cooper induced pool cue violence.

The closest I've come to them was at an instore signing for that same show in Melbourne. Very intense and interesting people. Very exotic for a 22 year old Australian bloke like me.

Hahaha. Thanks man, appreciate it. Come to think of it, i might very well have been around the same age when that happened. Still, at least you got a signed memento which is pretty damn sweet in it's own right.

Cool. I spent a weekend in Hong Kong at the end of my honeymoon and I couldn't believe how amazing it was. Never been to the Phillipines. That must have been an eye opener.

Next month the Countess, the infants terribles and I are heading to Thailand to stalk the night and feast deeply. It will be my first time there and I'm really looking forward to it. In September I'm heading to the French countryside around Bourdeaux for three weeks to work on my French and find my inner Requiem. No family on that trip which is also a bonus, bless their infernal hearts (although I'll miss them!).

Hey nice man, I actually spent my honeymoon there as well. We went over to see the Big Buddha in Lantau & took the ferry across to Lamma Island which was nice. Really miss living there. The Philippines was a shock at first, saw a dead body within an hour of being there & saw entire homeless families living on doorsteps, but on the flipside they were the most welcoming & friendly people i have ever met, food is fantastic as well (which is just as well because they continue to stack your plate until you can't move).

Not been to Thailand but from what i have seen it is the best of both worlds, Party side/country side. I assume plenty of feasting will be done during your stay. The French countryside looks amazing, really hope i can get there one day. I imagine it will be even more so in solitude. That is the kind of region where you can really engulf yourself in the culture and surroundings without so many distractions.

    Obituary- "Slowly We Rot"

Why did I ever think Obituary was boring? They're the fucking Celtic Frost of Death Metal.

I actually bought that album from a pawn shop years ago. Hahaha. I gave it away due to not being into death metal at the time, i'll have to find it somewhere and give it a spin again.

  12. Travel is also a huge passion of mine. I honestly believe it gives you a different perspective on cultures that you can't experience through TV or books. I spent the last few years living in Asia (mostly spent in The Philippines & Hong Kong) and it taught me a lot about cultures & customs, as well as a new found humility. There are still many places i want to experience & have made plans to go to Denmark & visit some family in early 2019.
