Tool was the band that introduced me to GOOD heavy music. I love them. Their bass player has such incredible tone, and has been a HUGE influence on me (by which I mean Justin Chancellor, the other guy was really good but I never listened to them much when he was in the band). I don't own their entire discography but I LOVE what I've got.

Hey, guys! It has been a while since I have posted here. I've been absolutely slammed with work and other annoyingly persistent adult life issues...but I've got some free time and wanted to see what you all thought of my band's newest video. Sorry my first post in so long is self promotion...but so it goes. Check it out and let me know what you think!

Hey, guys! My band Kindler just finished up our third video in the ongoing Basement Sessions series. Check it out, and let me know what you think. I took a lot of the criticism you guys gave me into account from the last video, especially in the mixing process. So, I'd love to hear more of what you have to say. Anyway, here it is!

I think everything has it's place. Down tuning definitely has a sound that, for certain situations, gets an idea across like nothing else. But Whenever I write, I tend to stay away from it. Some limitations inspire creativity, others inspire complacency. Early on in my youth I found myself addicted to drop D and played in nothing but that, recycling bad ideas. Stopped using anything but standard tuning, and found my creativity exploding. That being said, I also started writing more on the piano. So the increase in creativity could be completely unrelated! I will say that because standard tuning has been explored so greatly, it has a very "disguised" tonality. Could be anything. Many alternate tunings, open-tunings, etc., haven't been used for as many different purposes, and therefore have very powerful associations with certain kinds of music. I like that when I hear things in standard I don't immediately think of a singular artist or genre. Those are my thoughts, for whatever they're worth.

Pretty weird sometimes, but in the most interesting ways. They have a tune in which the vocalist sings "beautiful death" in Spanish (I believe that's the translation) over and over again in his best Pavarotti impression, over this clunky, almost atonal riff...so odd but so satisfying.

I don't know Windhand, actually. Checking them out now. Heavy doom, man. I like it! Makes me think of Pallbearer a little bit.

These guys aren't from my scene in NC, but I saw them on tour here. Band is called Cave of Swimmers and they're from Miami. Just two guys playing Sabbath influenced stoner-y metal stuff. I can't get enough of it. Definitely my favorite local metal band right now. Here's a link to their bandcamp and to a youtube vid of one of their other songs. Haha. Steve Perry is an incredible vocalist. Not the biggest fan of his songs, but I'd love to have his voice. Thanks for checking us out!

As Iceni said you've certainly nailed down the bass/vocalist role. The guitars need more presence for mine and the overall package wouldn't suffer from being a more in your face. This is all just opinion of course and certainly what you've got going on is enjoyable. Thanks for sharing it.

We are putting one out every two weeks, so if you like it, we can keep tossing them over here for easy access. I've seen some big bands come through the Orange Peel. Last show I saw there was ASG and Mastodon. They do non-metal shows over there, too, so next time you're in Asheville with your wife, maybe you guys could find something a little less aggressive to check out. Rush is the band that made me decide I wanted to spend my life making music. I will always love them for that.

Asheville is an awesome town! Played some shows up there, they have a pretty nice appreciation of metal as well. And if you ever get a chance, you should go see somebody play at the Orange Peel, if you haven't. Definitely my favorite venue in NC!

I'll keep this short because language is hard: I'm a heavy music fan from North Carolina. I play in a prog rock/metal band, and have been for most of my life. If you're curious, my favorite band is Rush (some call them metal...) followed very closely by Fair to Midland and TOOL. When I need to get REALLY heavy, I fuckin love Gojira. But then...who doesn't? So...hello!
