Are you more of a true crime/serial killer guy? I ask because I gravitate toward the supernatural in my horror films, and Hereditary definitely hit the right notes for me, but I know people who simply can't stand make-believe in horror, and that was their problem with the film. They usually enjoy movies like Fincher's Zodiac and it's ilk, and I definitely respect the craftsmanship of those films, they just don't really work for me on a horror level. It's sort of like talking to the "hard" sci-fi guys who will carefully discuss and dissect the details of terraforming down to a granular level, but absolutely hate the twist in Event Horizon because it doesn't work for them on an objective and practical level.

Can't believe any one fell asleep to hereditary

Impressive stuff not drinking. I do like a drink but only   few times a week. Definitely not every day anymore. Doesn't agree with me. I Listen to metal sober more than  after a few. I can appreciate the music a bit more.  Of course some music is great when your drunk. Candlemass can be good after a few especially debut album.

Going to a gig without a beer is hard. But they've been the best

I cannot believe I just discovered these guys today!  Seven glorious albums to get familiar with!  Now having this fantastic folk/pirate metal on top of the new Angelus Apatrida, Cirith Ungol and making my way through the entire Judas Priest discography, my head is spinning!

Here in 2023, we've already had Overkill, Metallica, Girish and the Chronicles, Angelus Apatrida, KK's Priest, U.D.O., Primal Fear, Nervosa, Evile, Cattle Decapitation, and Cirith Ungol release killer albums.

And in 2024, both Judas Priest and DragonForce are already confirmed to release new albums (both in March), and we should also be getting a new album from the mighty Accept who are, in my opinion, currently in their greatest era with Mark Tornillo fronting the band.  If Airbourne ever gets on the ball and puts out their 6th album of hard rock 'n' roll greatness, I'll be thoroughly unable to contain myself.  Long live heavy metal!!

    Big up evile

I think you'll enjoy Wreck-Defy!  The musicianship and vocals are equally great.

You and I have definitely both been on the "Congregation of Annihilation" train!  I just can't get over how perfect Marc Lopes is for the band's sound.  He can hit the Halford-like highs and can let out some fierce growls the very next moment.  Very impressive singer.

I completely agree with you about the new Evile album, "The Unknown".  It took a few listens for me to get into it.  It's such a contrast from their 2021 comeback album, "Hell Unleashed", which is my second favorite album of theirs, only behind "Enter the Grave".  But now that I've listened through "The Unknown" several times, it has really grown on me.  It does have a couple of solid thrashers in the middle of the track listing, but the doomier songs are heavy in a completely different way, and I'm enjoying it!

    Same town band...evile

Not a tone, but definitely a musically defined style. This happens every so often, and in most cases a lot of the bickering comes from a corner of the metal world that typically rejects and dislikes whatever style their talking about. Just a few weeks ago I nearly had an aneurysm when I saw bands being referred to as "pizza thrash". It cuts both ways though. For the most part I really don't think "groove" is a very apt sound description, and the argument could possibly be made that the term djent, though somewhat nebulous, at least has an onomatopoeian aspect in it's function that could apply as a general catch-all for sound description. That said though, I have no problems leaving the term behind and just going with Meshuggah-esque or some such. It's really not a hill worth dying

I'm in a band but pretty musically dumb. Always associated djent with the bend string off kilter sound..the doooooooowwwn

An old band I was in was referred to as math...but we just had more than 2 sections lol

  6. I know it's an old topic but I need to weigh in

My friend cured my panic attacks...which were massive, years ago with a self help book.

Believe it or not I wore an elastic band on my wrist and snapped it everytime I felt them.

If I was starting to get the fear I acted as if I wasn't...sounds daft and a little over simplified but worked very quickly

I finally got around to watching Hellraiser last night. Overall I thought it was okay but it did lack some details. Even though I have seen the original and read the book I think they could have explained the role of the Cenobites in a better detail. I kind of felt there was parts of the film that were not explained because they were explained in the original, which is fine but for me it made this less of a stand alone remake and more of an additional movie. There was some cringeworthy moments in it caused by average acting and directing but that's what horror movies are about. Overall I don't think it was as bad as some people are saying.

Although I do realise that many of the people I've spoken to or heard talk about it are complaining mostly about the film's 'wokeness'. For me I didn't really care that Pinhead was female and didn't focus on that aspect of the film. I've also heard people suggest that the new version having a gay couple made it woke, but I think those people are focusing on the wrong thing, especially given that Clive himself is gay and this is not the first time he written gay characters.

    Can't beat hellraiser 2

    Best of last few years

    Hereditary

    Martyrs

    Dark and the wicked

    Terrified (not terrifier)

In England we have CV's because we can't let fucking go of Latin even in 2023.  Mine is years out of date, largely due to the amount of headhunting that goes on for me on LinkedIn with recruiters offering me jobs with impossible salaries expecting to me to fall into the trap of finding out the hard way why the salary is so high because a) the company is awful to work for b) is getting wiped out by its competitors c) has gotten greedy and now all its customers have realised there are cheaper alternatives etc.

Actually at a point as I approach fifty where I am considering if I have one more move in me.  Done years of operational and management stuff so could it be time to make that strategic view on things and try and get into some director position?  Who knows.  A lot of plates spinning at any one time for me but the big advantage is working autonomously and (providing shit gets done) getting paid a decent wedge plus commission without responsibility for other people - who let's face it are usually dicks anyway - or having to provide much in the way of strategic guidance or direction.

Should still update the CV anyways as coming up for ten years at my current place and survived three different takeovers (most billed as mergers - but all takeovers) so my luck can't last forever.

In England cvs are nothing more than creative writing exercises...or is that just me
