The best way to promote your band

A lot of bands are one track minded. Which is great because as well as talent it takes a LOT of determination to succeed in Metal. Especially nowadays with social and mainstream media being flooded with other good bands doing the same. Trying to live the dream. This unfortunately leads the band members to run around offline and online like headless chickens promoting their band anywhere and everywhere without stopping to think. Bad idea. The best way to promote your band offline or online is to become active in community. Become part of that community and everyone will know your name and namedrop you when the subject of Metal comes up. If you choose to make Metal Forum your home and join our community then take part. No one wants to checkout a band they have not heard of. Start an interesting discussion on your sub-genre and put a link to your band's website and Facebook page in your forum signature. If you make friends with someone or teach someone something, they'll definitely check you out. Trust me this is the way to do it. Slow down and get involved you 'one post wonders'. It's for your own good! \mf/

Re: The best way to promote your band It's true, many of the posters on this site are better about promoting my band than I am, especially Relentless Oblivion. I know that there are more great metal bands making great albums than we even have time to listen to, and my band is only one of those. I try to have a good conversation and recommend music I like, and if I only ever recommended my band to everyone, I would be helping them miss out on other good stuff that I also love. Re: The best way to promote your band My band's name is Nevertanezra, we have a couple of threads here with links to our stuff, or you could find us through the usual channels of Facebook, soundcloud, YouTube, etc... I also recently started a black/thrash band with some friends, which does not yet have a name and only a few songs worked out. Sent from my HTC PH39100 using Tapatalk 2

That's very kind and generous of you. As I mentioned in the 'introductions' thread, I'm the (volunteer) street team coordinator for Bay Area Cali rockers ZED. They're kind of a Stoner Rock and/or Groove Metal outfit. I posted one of their videos in the 'promotions' thread. Here's some links below. If you'd be so kind as to let me know when you've added them to you webpage I'll post something about on our FB and/or website. ZED website: http://www.zedisded.com ZED Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zedrocknow ZEDHEADS (Street Team) website: http://www.zedheads.org ZEDHEADS (Street Team) Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zedstreetteam If you'd be interested in writing a review let me know and I'll hook you up with a download code for their 2013 release, "Desperation Blues." In the mean time, you (and anyone else) can download their 2010 debut album "The Invitation" here: Free Music Download ? Full Digital Album! | ZEDHEADS.ORG

You could also get some airplay. I can give you that on my own show, The Wyrd Ways Rock Show as well as the stations it gets syndicated on. So that's Planet Mosh, Radio Metal ON - The Heavy, Rock Stars Glued and Red Eye Network. Like a lot of DJs, if you send me a CD (PM me to find out how) that shows commitment. I'm more likely to give it a fairer hearing, even if the production isn't great because you've put your money where your mouth is. A proper, well programmed website is also a good promotional tool, too. Again, it shows you're serious, as does a band e-mail address, with a band domain name being even better. As a few people on this thread have already said, a strong online presence is essential these days, as well as quality of interaction and music. Let's not forget the most important thing. The music. That has to be readily available. One thing that really pisses me off is having to "Like" a band on Facebook before I can hear any of their stuff. That just shows you how worthless "Likes" on Facebook actually are.

Nice thread! Its hard to become well known in the world of metal, there's so many great bands around. So here's my band if anyone's interested, we are mainly a doom metal band but we mix different elements from different genres. great thread :D As stated in my other thread First a bit about us, then a link to our brand new video XVI.IV =) All our work is availible to buy and listen to on most web-stores. (Spotify, Itunes etc) ENJOY! SHORT BIO --------------------------- With Silent Eyes are a metal band based in the East Midlands, UK. Following the release of the bands 8 track mini album "A Flood Upon Us" and 3 track EP "Destroyer of Worlds" With Silent Eyes look to take no prisoners. With the impending release of their new single "XVI.IV" and then the release of a new EP they are set to prove naysayers wrong. Passion for their music, an aggressive live show and a "fuck the world" attitude makes With Silent Eyes one to watch. Since the bands formation they have played a large number of shows around the UK with notable bands such as Scar The Martyr, Bury Tomorrow, Sacred Mother Tongue, The Hell, Don Broco, Martyr Defiled, Dead Harts, And Their Eyes Were Bloodshot, Odessa, Annotations Of An Autopsy and many more. This Antareth sounds really good, I like it. Good vocals and melody, good solo. I did really enjoy the song The Fallen Angel. Plus great artwork. Shades from the past are good as well. I like this type of slow tempo. Check out my song : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s1lRYFq8TGU I would like to know your oppinion. I'll write sth about my band : Forgotten Deity is mainly black metal, with ambient influences. Up to this moment it released one CD and another one is comming to be released in April 2014 - through Le Crepuscule du Soir Productions just like the first CD. Most of the tracks are a blend of black metal and ambient. The track I posted here will be on my third CD entitled "Pagan Empire" and it will be released (probably) in 2015 HERE IS MY WEBSITE http://forgottendeity.blogspot.com/

    • Whichever tier of thrash metal you consigned Sacred Reich back in the 80's/90's they still had their moments.  "Ignorance" & "Surf Nicaragura" did a great job of establishing the band, whereas "The American Way" just got a little to comfortable and accessible (the title track grates nowadays) for my ears.  A couple more records better left forgotten about and then nothing for twenty three years.  2019 alone has now seen three releases from Phil Rind and co.  A live EP, a split EP with Iron Reagan and now a full length.

Notable addition to the ranks for the current throng of releases is former Machine Head sticksman, Dave McClean.  Love or hate Machine Head, McClean is a more than capable drummer and his presence here is felt from the off with the opening and title track kicking things off with some real gusto.  'Divide & Conquer' and 'Salvation' muddle along nicely, never quite reaching any quality that would make my balls tingle but comfortable enough.  The looming build to 'Manifest Reality' delivers a real punch when the song starts proper.  Frenzied riffs and drums with shots of lead work to hold the interest.

There's a problem already though (I know, I am such a fucking mood hoover).  I don't like Phil's vocals.  I never had if I am being honest.  The aggression to them seems a little forced even when they are at their best on tracks like 'Manifest Reality'.  When he tries to sing it just feels weak though ('Salvation') and tracks lose real punch.  Give him a riffy number such as 'Killing Machine' and he is fine with the Reich engine (probably a poor choice of phrase) up in sixth gear.  For every thrashy riff there's a fair share of rock edged, local bar act rhythm aplenty too.

Let's not poo-poo proceedings though, because overall I actually enjoy "Awakening".  It is stacked full of catchy riffs that are sticky on the old ears.  Whilst not as raw as perhaps the - brilliant - artwork suggests with its black and white, tattoo flash sheet style design it is enjoyable enough.  Yes, 'Death Valley' & 'Something to Believe' have no place here, saved only by Arnett and Radziwill's lead work but 'Revolution' is a fucking 80's thrash heyday throwback to the extent that if you turn the TV on during it you might catch a new episode of Cheers!

    • Full length number 19 from overkill certainly makes a splash in the energy stakes, I mean there's some modern thrash bands that are a good two decades younger than Overkill who can only hope to achieve the levels of spunk that New Jersey's finest produce here.  That in itself is an achievement, for a band of Overkill's stature and reputation to be able to still sound relevant four decades into their career is no mean feat.  Even in the albums weaker moments it never gets redundant and the energy levels remain high.  There's a real sense of a band in a state of some renewed vigour, helped in no small part by the addition of Jason Bittner on drums.  The former Flotsam & Jetsam skinsman is nothing short of superb throughout "The Wings of War" and seems to have squeezed a little extra out of the rest of his peers.

The album kicks of with a great build to opening track "Last Man Standing" and for the first 4 tracks of the album the Overkill crew stomp, bash and groove their way to a solid level of consistency.  The lead work is of particular note and Blitz sounds as sneery and scathing as ever.  The album is well produced and mixed too with all parts of the thrash machine audible as the five piece hammer away at your skull with the usual blend of chugging riffs and infectious anthems.

There are weak moments as mentioned but they are more a victim of how good the strong tracks are.  In it's own right "Distortion" is a solid enough - if not slightly varied a journey from the last offering - but it just doesn't stand up well against a "Bat Shit Crazy" or a "Head of a Pin".  As the album draws to a close you get the increasing impression that the last few tracks are rescued really by some great solos and stomping skin work which is a shame because trimming of a couple of tracks may have made this less obvious.
