Fucking hell.  The prick in law (brother in law - just realised from my previous posts I may need to specify) commented on my photo on FB of the Trappist beer I was drinking with "didn't see the T there at first".  Yeah dickhead because "rapist" has 2 "P"s in it.

Maybe he wants to be a "rappist"?

Idiot motorists who go out of their way to cut off cyclists. Two weeks in a row this has happened now. Last week the bunch was cut off by an idiot who decided to cross onto the wrong side of the road, speed past us, slam on their brakes when they got ahead of us and speed off when he didn't cause a crash. All because we were riding in the road not the bike lane due to its being full of parked cars. This week we had two cars overtake us and slam on their brakes before turning down a side street (despite there being no traffic). Don't get me wrong some cyclists do the wrong thing and I won't deny that but it seems like just about every week some moron decides it's a great idea to bully cyclists who are actually doing THE RIGHT THING just because it entertains them.

I'm not angry at anyone or anything in particular, but I am very frustrated. I used to love going to festivals and concerts but I haven't been to one since I was fourteen. I no longer have contact with the friends I had then and the friends I have now are not into my kind of music. I'm shy, nervous, not good with crowds and strangers and because of this I have missed so many things I wanted to see. I feel like an old granny.

Why not just take the plunge and go see a show by yourself? I love going to shows by myself, I can focus on the music and I don't have to interact with anyone if I don't want to.

Really? REALLY??? So after forcing one of our fitter and stronger tandem pilots to bury himself all day just to keep the bike moving a certain team-mate still thinks she's ready to compete at nationals. You CAN NOT take over a month off training so close to the titles and expect to ride. There's a month to go and that's not enough time to get fit. Hell I'm worried about being under-prepared and I've been training hard for months. She's been told both by myself and the coaches that she needs to be training but clearly the message isn't getting through. What SHOULD have driven home the message was today's hills ride. First climb of the day my pilot (who hasn't ridden in 5 weeks) and I reached the summit over 5 minutes ahead of them. Her pilot is both fitter and stronger them me and on his own bike would have peaked that climb and ridden half way down in the time we took (on a bad day). I kinow I'm a bloke and she's clearly not but still the gap should not have been that pronounced.

I suppose I shouldn't be surprised because she's been increasingly unreliable over the last few months in all facets of her life. That stuff I no longer care about but when you're part of a high level sports team there is an obligation to carry yourself in a particular fashion and perform to a reasonable standard.

If I can muster up enough courage, I might :)

I have a feeling she will realise soon enough she's not ready for it, if it is as bad as you say. Perhaps she needs to be embarrassed a little bit before she gets there. That's usually a pretty good eye-opener.

I have had it with people deciding they'll try to get away with patting my guide dog while he's working. What really pisses me off is when I confront people about it and they say 'sorry I know you're not supposed to pat them I didn't think you'd see'. Such was the case today. Now if you KNOW you're not supposed to do something and do it anyway you're stupid. If you KNOW you aren't supposed to do something and your excuse is that you didn't think someone would see you're a stupid asshole. If you then try AGAIN while being observed and need to be told a second time then I wish I knew a command to make my dog tear off your fucking hands. Oh and don't mumble about how I'm an asshole 'cause you wanted to do something YOU FUCKING KNEW YOU SHOULDN'T as you walk away. This, exactly this, is why I HATE people.

    • Whichever tier of thrash metal you consigned Sacred Reich back in the 80's/90's they still had their moments.  "Ignorance" & "Surf Nicaragura" did a great job of establishing the band, whereas "The American Way" just got a little to comfortable and accessible (the title track grates nowadays) for my ears.  A couple more records better left forgotten about and then nothing for twenty three years.  2019 alone has now seen three releases from Phil Rind and co.  A live EP, a split EP with Iron Reagan and now a full length.

Notable addition to the ranks for the current throng of releases is former Machine Head sticksman, Dave McClean.  Love or hate Machine Head, McClean is a more than capable drummer and his presence here is felt from the off with the opening and title track kicking things off with some real gusto.  'Divide & Conquer' and 'Salvation' muddle along nicely, never quite reaching any quality that would make my balls tingle but comfortable enough.  The looming build to 'Manifest Reality' delivers a real punch when the song starts proper.  Frenzied riffs and drums with shots of lead work to hold the interest.

There's a problem already though (I know, I am such a fucking mood hoover).  I don't like Phil's vocals.  I never had if I am being honest.  The aggression to them seems a little forced even when they are at their best on tracks like 'Manifest Reality'.  When he tries to sing it just feels weak though ('Salvation') and tracks lose real punch.  Give him a riffy number such as 'Killing Machine' and he is fine with the Reich engine (probably a poor choice of phrase) up in sixth gear.  For every thrashy riff there's a fair share of rock edged, local bar act rhythm aplenty too.

Let's not poo-poo proceedings though, because overall I actually enjoy "Awakening".  It is stacked full of catchy riffs that are sticky on the old ears.  Whilst not as raw as perhaps the - brilliant - artwork suggests with its black and white, tattoo flash sheet style design it is enjoyable enough.  Yes, 'Death Valley' & 'Something to Believe' have no place here, saved only by Arnett and Radziwill's lead work but 'Revolution' is a fucking 80's thrash heyday throwback to the extent that if you turn the TV on during it you might catch a new episode of Cheers!

    • Full length number 19 from overkill certainly makes a splash in the energy stakes, I mean there's some modern thrash bands that are a good two decades younger than Overkill who can only hope to achieve the levels of spunk that New Jersey's finest produce here.  That in itself is an achievement, for a band of Overkill's stature and reputation to be able to still sound relevant four decades into their career is no mean feat.  Even in the albums weaker moments it never gets redundant and the energy levels remain high.  There's a real sense of a band in a state of some renewed vigour, helped in no small part by the addition of Jason Bittner on drums.  The former Flotsam & Jetsam skinsman is nothing short of superb throughout "The Wings of War" and seems to have squeezed a little extra out of the rest of his peers.

The album kicks of with a great build to opening track "Last Man Standing" and for the first 4 tracks of the album the Overkill crew stomp, bash and groove their way to a solid level of consistency.  The lead work is of particular note and Blitz sounds as sneery and scathing as ever.  The album is well produced and mixed too with all parts of the thrash machine audible as the five piece hammer away at your skull with the usual blend of chugging riffs and infectious anthems.

There are weak moments as mentioned but they are more a victim of how good the strong tracks are.  In it's own right "Distortion" is a solid enough - if not slightly varied a journey from the last offering - but it just doesn't stand up well against a "Bat Shit Crazy" or a "Head of a Pin".  As the album draws to a close you get the increasing impression that the last few tracks are rescued really by some great solos and stomping skin work which is a shame because trimming of a couple of tracks may have made this less obvious.
