Metal Forum Top 10 Power Metal Bands

Re: Metal Forum Top 10 Power Metal Bands Serenia aren't power metal, they're gothic. Dragonforce suck. They're a joke. Nightwish is good but nowhere near number one in anything.

Re: Metal Forum Top 10 Power Metal Bands Well, mine are, in no specific order: Harmony (technically prog-power, but they're my favorite band anyway). HammerFall (excluding Blood Bound, Threshold, No Sacrifice, No Victory and Infected). Serenity Thy Majestie Mystic Prophecy Firewind Primal Fear Divinefire Iron Savior Rob Rock OR Borealis Of course, I'd also want Sabaton, Excalion, Galloglass, Nocturnal Rites, Sinbreed, Almah and Darksun on there somewhere, but I can't fit them in.

Serenia are Gothic? Epica are Power? I give up - I think I'll go and have a lie down before my head literally explodes!
I do have the power to blow minds. It's obvious my gift of enlightenment was more than you could bare. Take some time off until your up to speed. My gifts are damaging to most. Top 10 Power Metal Bands: Nevermore Blind Guardian Angra Manowar Helloween Gamma Ray Hammerfall Metalium Steel Attack Hibria (these are all in random order)

Re: Metal Forum Top 10 Power Metal Bands

Mine will (as usual) lean mostly towards the old school of power metal: Jag Panzer Savatage Helstar Riot Blind Guardian Grave Digger Running Wild King Diamond Manowar Iced Earth
I almost put Grave Digger down but I just don't like them as much as I used too. Jag Panzer is good but I could never get into them. Helstar is a band I need to hear more of. What little you've played for me was great. I think Rob would agree with your Iced Earth and Running Wild.

Re: Metal Forum Top 10 Power Metal Bands Jag Panzer's first album is the reason why they're there. Some of their later stuff is alright, like Mechanized Warfare, but Ample Destruction is just old school power metal goodness. Grave Digger is great, I really need more of their albums. Helstar is one of my favorite bands on that list, incredible power/speed metal with excellent vocals and musicianship.

Re: Metal Forum Top 10 Power Metal Bands Iced Earth could've made this list but they suck. They've been putting out the same album for years and seem to have massive hardons for shitty singers (excluding Ripper of course).

Why did you include Helloween and Gammaray as two separate bands? :D

Re: Metal Forum Top 10 Power Metal Bands Ample Destruction was good by Jap Ganzer, but Titan force and Satan's Host are better overall. Manowar have two good albums and the rest could be shipped to an island somewhere and forgotten about, they turned to shit after Hail to England and Battle Hymns and Louder than Hell are two of the worst albums I have ever heard.

They made my list for their first 3 albums, Night of the Stormrider being one of my favorite power metal albums. I still like some of their stuff after those 3, but they would not have made the list based on their later offerings.

Battle Hymns is great, but Into Glory Ride is my favorite of Manowar's albums, and is the real reason why they're on this list.

It is a great album, there are no two ways about it. I'd say their first four albums were great, but the singer on the first was a fucking joke. I don't know who thought that guy could sing but he's hilariously awful. I really like the music of it but can't listen to it because the vocals are just fucktarded.

Too each their own, but Louder than Hell seriously is the worst metal album I have ever heard. How the hell can any man seriously devise: "If you like metal, your my friend" and demand has band at least have one sliver of legitimacy. Not to mention the riffs on that album are about as flaccid as Eric Adam's breast implants.

Because that's how Manowar writes. I have no problem with their lyrics. I know what I'm getting when I get a Manowar album I've only questioned their legitimacy once when they released a song that said "Blow your speakers with Rock n Roll". When I hear a Manowar song I expect to hear it filled with all manner of Heavy Metal praises, I don't care how they say it. All I hear is conviction. LtH showed them coming into the 90's with an aggression that had been severely lacking. Lower tuned guitars, a new guitarist and a sense of renewed passion. Of everything they've ever put out it's the best by leaps and bounds.

    • I’ve been watching a bunch of nature documentaries recently. Dangerous animals only, for the most part, because I refuse to devote an hour of my life watching turtles mosey around the deep blue. Additionally, I’ve sought out very in-depth material so I can appreciate the animal being analyzed. As a result I’ve been able to watch a decent amount of material closely scrutinizing the habits of predators, and that’s given me a particularly good context for understanding Sadist’s 2015 album “Hyena”.

This album is intended to track the habits of a hyena. Seems a bit on the nose, but bear with me; the album’s style is important. The album takes the listener on a markedly violent safari in an open-top jeep. Feel the wind in your hair, enjoy the natural splendor of the savannah, watch some animals murder and/or eat each other. Bring along some Mango Jive but for goodness sake leave your droewors back at the hut. Musically, as far as the metal goes – it’s a technical death/thrash album with the ferocity of the latter and the substance of the former. The vocals are higher-pitched snarls, characteristic of Sadist and perfect for the concept; in fact the entire production isolates the smooth bass to allow for moodier lines from said instrument.

I’ve always noticed that in the grand sweep of folk metal African music usually gets left out. Makes some sense – I’ve heard quite a lot of traditional African music and it’s way too happy and tropical. Then again, Dan Swano, Skindred and even Equilibrium have managed to make Caribbean music work in metal, so it’s not impossible. The next best thing is something thematically evocative, which is what “Hyena” represents. It’s not perfect; Sadist could have paced out the textures better and deepened the nature sounds, perhaps taking influence from the largely untouchable Russo-Finnish metal masters Second To Sun. That being said, it’s a one-of-a-kind work and Sadist deserves credit for taking their vicious brand of tech-death on a sun-bleached adventure into the wild.

    • After listening to both albums, I am having difficulty deciding which I think is better.  Both have excellent songs and guitar work, and express the atmosphere of Burzum extremely.  Personally, however, I think that the vocals are delivered better on Filosofem.  Filosofem also has more songs, but the 25 minute synth track is not as good as Tomhet.  What do you all think?

Here are three shots of my black metal collection. The first is the whole thing, but i've also included two closer shots that should be clearer when zooming in etc.

    • On BM scene there are also good worth of attention female vocalists. Some of my fav bands.

1 Astarte - All female black metal band from Greece. In my opinion Tristessa is one of the best female growler.

2 Darkened Nocturn Slaughtercult - Onielar and her growls and style are something amazing. Nothing more nothing less.

3 Gedanken Toten Lebens - Interesting one-woman atmospheric black metal project. Lyrics are about naure, death and philosophy.

Who is your favourite black metal female vocalist? Do you like these bands? Or maybe you think black metal isn't for women? Let's start the discussion!
