Well it’s the Panthers up 18 in the throw ball final, no clue if that’s significant

I watched the game and I'm no expert, I don't even remember half the rules, but I think the score line was an unfair representation of the game as a whole. The Feels didn't play poorly, they came out firing, and they spent the entire night defending hard but the Panthers just had an answer for everything they did. Panthers only lost 4 games all season, they were odds on favourite to win, they've been in the GF three years in a row, winning twice, it was always going to be an up hill battle for the Feels. It sucks to loose, especially the big one, but I don't think the Feels should be ashamed by their loss

Dear label/distributor....it does me no good to get an email for merch that sells out before the email actually even arrives. Like, at least stagger that shit with a set "goes on sale" time or something

That shits me. I'm still trying to get a decent shirt (i.e one I like) for AusMusic Day, but none of the supporting stores/sites have stock in the size I want. Most of them have been out of larger sizes now for 18 months or more.

That happens to me constantly too. I wear a large, and it's always the first size to go...it's either a medium or a fucking small left in stock

Yeah I've pretty much given up on buying band merch these days. Too much of a hassle and even if you manage to find something in your size for a reasonable price, it's probably gonna be printed on a garbage Gildan heavy-cotten tee that won't fit well, despite it being the correct size.

I can't even count how many Gildan shirts I've owned over the years that end up wasting away in my closet cuz I can't stand the way they fit.

Most manufacturers do appear to be offering Gildan these days. Back in the 90's we used to get some really shitty quality tour shirts here, many were poly-cotton blends that didn't even have a shape to begin with. Quality has improved but not from every band/label. I prefer 100% cotton, rather than the poly-cotton blends, but I still think most places could do better than they do. My best quality shirt was an AJFA Tour shirt, no idea why their quality was so good but that shirt lasted years and never went out of shape or pulled any threads.

Headlines report the Eels have been dominated, mauled and trounced by the Panthers 28-12 so I reckon there's no point in watching the highlights. Better luck next year Doc.

Such is life. We were gracious in defeat and unlike the Panfer chodes would have been gracious in victory. I had a great day with the son watching both the Eels women and men lose...I am old enough to not let this burn me up, but not too old to give up hope of seeing them win before I'm done.

By way of consolation, Thatguy and Mrs Thatguy are off to Italy tomorrow. We will be away about 5 weeks and in the middle will spend 10 days in Sicily with the daughter (who is in Iceland at this moment) and the son and Mrs Thatguy's son.

I'll be back when I'm back.

Whats up you degenerates. Been mostly out of the loop but mostly not hearing a lot thats post worthy. Maybe new Gevurah, Nocturnal or Vessel of Iniquity. Will take any suggestions for stuff I should hear.

Also just home after 6 months of arduous work and working on a solid buzz.

Good to have you back Hungarino!

As for new releases I am the wrong guy to ask about them!  🤣  I have been digging early Merciless but those were new 30 years ago.

I definitely have some Merciless...or is it Mercyless? Both i think

I didn't intend to watch Bathurst yesterday. I figured I'd turn it on and watch the start because rain was expected and most of the drivers are too ego driven to drive to the conditions. But in the end I watched all 7 hours of the race because I couldn't be bothered doing anything else. First time in years I've watched it go to whoa. It's an unforgiving mountain at times but she still manages to produce some great racing every year.

I think in an ideal world anytime some poorly educated semi illiterate millennial craps on about boomers, the police (or His Malevolent Majesty, Emperor Dead1's Robotic Royal Guard and Enforcement Division) should track them down and chop their fingers with blunt garden shears off so they can never use a device again.  This should of course be televised to create a deterrent.

Literally the little fucks have no other response.

Eg I literally just got called a boomer cause I said most nu-metal was contrived commercial and flogged by labels who saw a quick dollar.

And I'm not even a boomer but it irritates me to no end.

Also why do restaurants now refer to food as bowls eg meat n veg bowl, poke bowl, pork bowl etc etc?  Yet ironically soup is never referred to as a bowl of soup!

We don't call it it a steak plate or fettuccine carbonarra plate or fish and chip plate.

Again in an ideal world I think these guys would be getting a visit from Robotic Royal Guard and Enforcement Division - possibly their establishments used to test out the accuracy of The Most Holy AGM-114 Hellfire drone launched missiles.

And what's up with all this poke bowl bullshit....that's an appetizer in my book.

It's all marketing. I guess ours is different from yours. They call them "plates" (or "platters") here, sometimes to differentiate it from a sandwich with the same ingredients, usually to let you know that you're getting something resembling a full meal. "Bowl" makes sense to me; it's letting you know that there are different components but they're all served atop one another and meant to be somewhat mixed (we do have "bowls" of soup, too - usually that means the larger of two sizes, the smaller one being a "cup"). "Plates" are usually served with the different portions kept separate.

I dig a poké bowl sometimes, but it's almost always too expensive for the amount of food I get, the fish at our nearby place could stand to be a little fresher, and I always wind up feeling like I'd rather be having sushi. Pure luxury, that.

Also bunch of stuff mixed together = salad or stew or curry or whatever.

Not talking about meals that are cooked together like a stew or curry. A "bowl" around here usually means something like a cup or two of rice in a bowl, with vegetables and meat and maybe eggs and sauces served on top of it, placed separately, but meant to be eaten together.

Why I'm talking about this like it matters, I have no idea.

    • Whichever tier of thrash metal you consigned Sacred Reich back in the 80's/90's they still had their moments.  "Ignorance" & "Surf Nicaragura" did a great job of establishing the band, whereas "The American Way" just got a little to comfortable and accessible (the title track grates nowadays) for my ears.  A couple more records better left forgotten about and then nothing for twenty three years.  2019 alone has now seen three releases from Phil Rind and co.  A live EP, a split EP with Iron Reagan and now a full length.

Notable addition to the ranks for the current throng of releases is former Machine Head sticksman, Dave McClean.  Love or hate Machine Head, McClean is a more than capable drummer and his presence here is felt from the off with the opening and title track kicking things off with some real gusto.  'Divide & Conquer' and 'Salvation' muddle along nicely, never quite reaching any quality that would make my balls tingle but comfortable enough.  The looming build to 'Manifest Reality' delivers a real punch when the song starts proper.  Frenzied riffs and drums with shots of lead work to hold the interest.

There's a problem already though (I know, I am such a fucking mood hoover).  I don't like Phil's vocals.  I never had if I am being honest.  The aggression to them seems a little forced even when they are at their best on tracks like 'Manifest Reality'.  When he tries to sing it just feels weak though ('Salvation') and tracks lose real punch.  Give him a riffy number such as 'Killing Machine' and he is fine with the Reich engine (probably a poor choice of phrase) up in sixth gear.  For every thrashy riff there's a fair share of rock edged, local bar act rhythm aplenty too.

Let's not poo-poo proceedings though, because overall I actually enjoy "Awakening".  It is stacked full of catchy riffs that are sticky on the old ears.  Whilst not as raw as perhaps the - brilliant - artwork suggests with its black and white, tattoo flash sheet style design it is enjoyable enough.  Yes, 'Death Valley' & 'Something to Believe' have no place here, saved only by Arnett and Radziwill's lead work but 'Revolution' is a fucking 80's thrash heyday throwback to the extent that if you turn the TV on during it you might catch a new episode of Cheers!

    • Full length number 19 from overkill certainly makes a splash in the energy stakes, I mean there's some modern thrash bands that are a good two decades younger than Overkill who can only hope to achieve the levels of spunk that New Jersey's finest produce here.  That in itself is an achievement, for a band of Overkill's stature and reputation to be able to still sound relevant four decades into their career is no mean feat.  Even in the albums weaker moments it never gets redundant and the energy levels remain high.  There's a real sense of a band in a state of some renewed vigour, helped in no small part by the addition of Jason Bittner on drums.  The former Flotsam & Jetsam skinsman is nothing short of superb throughout "The Wings of War" and seems to have squeezed a little extra out of the rest of his peers.

The album kicks of with a great build to opening track "Last Man Standing" and for the first 4 tracks of the album the Overkill crew stomp, bash and groove their way to a solid level of consistency.  The lead work is of particular note and Blitz sounds as sneery and scathing as ever.  The album is well produced and mixed too with all parts of the thrash machine audible as the five piece hammer away at your skull with the usual blend of chugging riffs and infectious anthems.

There are weak moments as mentioned but they are more a victim of how good the strong tracks are.  In it's own right "Distortion" is a solid enough - if not slightly varied a journey from the last offering - but it just doesn't stand up well against a "Bat Shit Crazy" or a "Head of a Pin".  As the album draws to a close you get the increasing impression that the last few tracks are rescued really by some great solos and stomping skin work which is a shame because trimming of a couple of tracks may have made this less obvious.
