I saw Conan at Geno’s Rock Club in Portland ME, USA last night. First show in a few months for me, and they were pretty impressive, especially the drummer. Enjoyed the others bands as well , Witchkiss in particular.

Lucky you man! hahaa. Conan is one of that bands I have to see before I die. But they don't come to my country that often so that's pretty sad

What country is that Kilian? Geno’s is tiny and the bands are just at arms legenth if you’re right up front (if you are up in front you will be standing next to me). Conan was so bass heavy it was like being in a hot tub with water jets all over. Really massive vibrations. I think it wholesome and clears out lymph like some kind of heavy metal spa treatment. wholesome as long as you have some sort of ear protection.

I'm from Catalonia (Spain). A lot of great bands come here and I'm very pleased with that but Conan is not coming that often so I can go see them.

The most similar experience I had was in a Yob concert they did 3 months ago. Everything was vibrating and the drums were really huge.

They came with the black metal band Wiegedood and they were very loud and huge as well but nothing compared to Yob.

Funfact:

I had the opportunity to talk to Mike (the singer) at the end of the show and I was so nervous that I just shook his hand for like 10 seconds without saying a word hahahha. Then we took a photo but that was weird hahaha

Two sports related posts in a row? You bet your ass it it. Showdown week here in Adelaide. This town really ain't big enough to support two AFL teams. A state divided by the colours you wear and tense with anticipation of what will surely be another epic chapter in this storied rivalry. Sporting rivalries do not get any bigger or more spiteful then Port Adelaide vs Adelaide. Bring on Saturday!

And the Geelong juggernaut rolls on! Thine be the glory!

About to rendezvous with notorious arch-genius @True Belief for beers and unhallowed food.

And I take solace in what looms as another wasted year knowing we were one of only two sides to emerge victorious against the all conquering dead-set certain premiers of season 2019.

Hail Geelong, the all conquering.

Still, the finals are a strange game and anything can happen. If they win it will be the fourth premiership in my lifetime and cause for much jubilation at Castle Requiem.

Many virgin village girls will be under great threat from my triumphant appetites if that’s the case.

Go Geelong!

So long as it's not Adelaide or Collingwood I don't care who wins it. I don't expect my lads to be there when the whips are cracking so I've already made my September holiday plans. How the side we have has consistently failed to deliver on it's potential is a source of constant frustration.

True Belief is a Collingwood supporter. Completely out of character if you ask me as he’s a good bloke.

Port Adelaide are always a chance though. But I just hope no interstate team wins, so I’ll take Collingwood over any interstate team.

Hail Victoria!

Funny my whole reason for not wanting Adelaide or Collingwood to win is the fact that everyone else in my family, immediate and extended, follows those two teams. It's hard to have any optimism as a Port person when you've beaten the reigning premiers on their home deck, and the ladder leaders as well, but have lost to two of the bottom six teams.

Maybe switch your focus and support your family and their teams when your own is out of contention?

Love conquers all.

Oh no it doesn't, Collingwood I can almost tolerate I'll give you that, Adelaide on the other hand. Well there's not enough love in the world to conquer the hate in my heart for that team. You Victorians will never understand. I would go into great detail about why the grudge will never die but no one who isn't South Australian really cares.

Less than 2 hours into our 8 hour ferry ride home.  The ferry company has heeded my request and given me an especially dark spot in the hold of the ship.  Too many children things running around up top, too many germs and diseases for even the most experienced of my kind to have to contend with.  WiFi is terrible tho.  Even the undead have Ebay bids to watch folks.

Well I had the single most terrifying experience of my life this morning. Imagine waking up and not being able to move, barely being able to breathe, god sleep paralysis is scary.

Been there, done that...since I was eight years old, so I know exactly how it feels. Rest assured, scary as it is then it is completely harmless.

I have had it before, not in years though, I've only ever gotten it in my parents house. I'm genuinely grateful that I didn't see or hear anything this time. I still remember the last time I heard chanting and saw several hooded figures in the room.

For you, divine goddess, I'd imagine it's nothing more than the usual nightly flight turbulence that you experience when you astrally project around the cosmos.

However, in your case, I'd wager that it's the karmic result of all of those Christopher Reeve jokes you made as a child come back to haunt you. Or maybe you're a martyr meant to suffer for all of Cthulhu's sins.

    • Whichever tier of thrash metal you consigned Sacred Reich back in the 80's/90's they still had their moments.  "Ignorance" & "Surf Nicaragura" did a great job of establishing the band, whereas "The American Way" just got a little to comfortable and accessible (the title track grates nowadays) for my ears.  A couple more records better left forgotten about and then nothing for twenty three years.  2019 alone has now seen three releases from Phil Rind and co.  A live EP, a split EP with Iron Reagan and now a full length.

Notable addition to the ranks for the current throng of releases is former Machine Head sticksman, Dave McClean.  Love or hate Machine Head, McClean is a more than capable drummer and his presence here is felt from the off with the opening and title track kicking things off with some real gusto.  'Divide & Conquer' and 'Salvation' muddle along nicely, never quite reaching any quality that would make my balls tingle but comfortable enough.  The looming build to 'Manifest Reality' delivers a real punch when the song starts proper.  Frenzied riffs and drums with shots of lead work to hold the interest.

There's a problem already though (I know, I am such a fucking mood hoover).  I don't like Phil's vocals.  I never had if I am being honest.  The aggression to them seems a little forced even when they are at their best on tracks like 'Manifest Reality'.  When he tries to sing it just feels weak though ('Salvation') and tracks lose real punch.  Give him a riffy number such as 'Killing Machine' and he is fine with the Reich engine (probably a poor choice of phrase) up in sixth gear.  For every thrashy riff there's a fair share of rock edged, local bar act rhythm aplenty too.

Let's not poo-poo proceedings though, because overall I actually enjoy "Awakening".  It is stacked full of catchy riffs that are sticky on the old ears.  Whilst not as raw as perhaps the - brilliant - artwork suggests with its black and white, tattoo flash sheet style design it is enjoyable enough.  Yes, 'Death Valley' & 'Something to Believe' have no place here, saved only by Arnett and Radziwill's lead work but 'Revolution' is a fucking 80's thrash heyday throwback to the extent that if you turn the TV on during it you might catch a new episode of Cheers!
