I FINALLY HAVE MY OWN TANDEM!!! It's second hand' date=' 700km ridden (you'd never know it by the way she rides) cost $2200 for a carbon fibre/alloy frame and it is LIGHT. The whole thing only weighs about 12kg (the single bike on my trainer weighs 9kg). Sooooo excited.[/quote'] Wow.....referring to your bicycle as a "she." Perhaps you should take a break riding for a little while.:P

That's still a lot. o.o (Says the college student, to whom everything is expensive.) Meanwhile, the hunt for a 2-bedroom for my friend and I continues unresolved...this is so much more stressful than when I was looking for my studio.
It is to me too. But the boys and I don't go shopping or out to eat very often together so I didn't mind the bill. Usually I get anxious and break out into cold sweats if I have to spend anything over 50 bucks lol And good luck with the apt hunting :)

Few years ago my ear drum in my right ear burst due to a nasty infection at the time. That killed my gig going days straight off as any loud music is painful in that ear in a live venue. It's now got to the point were I can't listen to music on my headphones anymore - not that I listen loudly anyway - without having pain for at least 2 days afterwards. It's going to mean a massive shift in how I listen to music as (due to work) I am usually plugged in to my phone on a train, ferry or plane going somewhere or chillin in the hotel room. On the plus side I have the Easter weekend plus the whole of next week off. Got to sit through a visit of the gf's family on Sunday (hooray another game of "who will get pissed first and ruin the day") but after that the week is all mine.
Sorry to hear about your ear, what a bummer :( Enjoy your Easter weekend......in the basement :P Sounds like you'll need that week to recover lol :D

Ha ha - my neighbour from the flat upstairs saw me taking my suitcase into the cellar earlier because I won't need it for a couple of weeks and he said "are you moving into the cellar?" - if only he knew how tempting a prospect that was ahead of tomorrow.:D

This reminds me of one time when my subway stopped between stations for a while and then sped through the upcoming station without stopping. They made some announcement about a "police investigation". I read the paper later and found out that the station was closed because they'd found a dismembered body stuffed into a suitcase on the platform.

You could save some money and accomplish the same thing by licking yourself and pooping in a box...
Someone's not a cat person.

Glad you all had fun. Spending money on things you don't get to do that often is indeed worth it. (: And thanks! We just saw a place today, and it might be the one. Fingers crossed.
Happy EASTER everyone
Happy Easter, Deathstorm! Glad you're feeling better.

I went to a party with live performances of friends of mine tonight, which was quite fun. Afterwards on my way home someone called me with a private number only to let me hear some heavy breathing over the phone. I guess that would have been frightening if my life were some sort of cheaply produced horror movie, which it obviously is not. It's nothing more than a tad saddening to know someone would be desperate enough to try to scare someone like that and even be willing to waste credit on it. I also have about 23 hours to get to the bottom of an essay concerning catenoids, so I'll be seeing you guys on Monday. :)

The Lord is Risen! He is risen Indeed. Graced with an ascot white as snow, Garbed in 'salmon' slacks, and blue striped jacket, truly, an ensemble louder than Bolt Thrower in subway station atop a jet engine, Today, 'tis the fulfillment of that promise! when he didst break the banana bread, saying, "This is my body, baked at 400 degrees for twenty-two minutes. "Take, and eat, all of you, then compliment my wife who made it with walnuts. "Do this, remembering me. For, how couldst thou not remember the hearty, earthy sweetness? And then, he took the cup after they had eaten, and gave thanks, pouring out the summer grapefruit punch, saying "This is the new covenant, sealed in my blood. Take, and add ice cubes, and drink, Do this, remembering me." Happy Easter from Georgetown!

quite the successful New York vacation, though my liver will probably never forgive me. Had a shitkickin blast hanging with Alabaster in a divey Brooklyn metal bar, any metalhead visiting NY definitely needs to check Duff's out. Electric Wizard was a fantastic show BUT it really wasn't as loud as I was expecting, not the earth shattering volume I've experienced before, but the mix was superb and their set list was fuckin choice. Now I'm sitting here wondering how I'm still lucid seeing that I havent slept since Friday night, but may take advantage of a free easter lunch with a friend's family. Maybe have a bloody mary or two so the cumulative hangover doesnt literally kill me >.

It was great to hang with you, dude. Lucidity not required.

Their Salt Lake show ended up selling out, so I guess I won't be in attendance.

    • Whichever tier of thrash metal you consigned Sacred Reich back in the 80's/90's they still had their moments.  "Ignorance" & "Surf Nicaragura" did a great job of establishing the band, whereas "The American Way" just got a little to comfortable and accessible (the title track grates nowadays) for my ears.  A couple more records better left forgotten about and then nothing for twenty three years.  2019 alone has now seen three releases from Phil Rind and co.  A live EP, a split EP with Iron Reagan and now a full length.

Notable addition to the ranks for the current throng of releases is former Machine Head sticksman, Dave McClean.  Love or hate Machine Head, McClean is a more than capable drummer and his presence here is felt from the off with the opening and title track kicking things off with some real gusto.  'Divide & Conquer' and 'Salvation' muddle along nicely, never quite reaching any quality that would make my balls tingle but comfortable enough.  The looming build to 'Manifest Reality' delivers a real punch when the song starts proper.  Frenzied riffs and drums with shots of lead work to hold the interest.

There's a problem already though (I know, I am such a fucking mood hoover).  I don't like Phil's vocals.  I never had if I am being honest.  The aggression to them seems a little forced even when they are at their best on tracks like 'Manifest Reality'.  When he tries to sing it just feels weak though ('Salvation') and tracks lose real punch.  Give him a riffy number such as 'Killing Machine' and he is fine with the Reich engine (probably a poor choice of phrase) up in sixth gear.  For every thrashy riff there's a fair share of rock edged, local bar act rhythm aplenty too.

Let's not poo-poo proceedings though, because overall I actually enjoy "Awakening".  It is stacked full of catchy riffs that are sticky on the old ears.  Whilst not as raw as perhaps the - brilliant - artwork suggests with its black and white, tattoo flash sheet style design it is enjoyable enough.  Yes, 'Death Valley' & 'Something to Believe' have no place here, saved only by Arnett and Radziwill's lead work but 'Revolution' is a fucking 80's thrash heyday throwback to the extent that if you turn the TV on during it you might catch a new episode of Cheers!

    • Full length number 19 from overkill certainly makes a splash in the energy stakes, I mean there's some modern thrash bands that are a good two decades younger than Overkill who can only hope to achieve the levels of spunk that New Jersey's finest produce here.  That in itself is an achievement, for a band of Overkill's stature and reputation to be able to still sound relevant four decades into their career is no mean feat.  Even in the albums weaker moments it never gets redundant and the energy levels remain high.  There's a real sense of a band in a state of some renewed vigour, helped in no small part by the addition of Jason Bittner on drums.  The former Flotsam & Jetsam skinsman is nothing short of superb throughout "The Wings of War" and seems to have squeezed a little extra out of the rest of his peers.

The album kicks of with a great build to opening track "Last Man Standing" and for the first 4 tracks of the album the Overkill crew stomp, bash and groove their way to a solid level of consistency.  The lead work is of particular note and Blitz sounds as sneery and scathing as ever.  The album is well produced and mixed too with all parts of the thrash machine audible as the five piece hammer away at your skull with the usual blend of chugging riffs and infectious anthems.

There are weak moments as mentioned but they are more a victim of how good the strong tracks are.  In it's own right "Distortion" is a solid enough - if not slightly varied a journey from the last offering - but it just doesn't stand up well against a "Bat Shit Crazy" or a "Head of a Pin".  As the album draws to a close you get the increasing impression that the last few tracks are rescued really by some great solos and stomping skin work which is a shame because trimming of a couple of tracks may have made this less obvious.
