I like some Ed - fucking - Sheeran songs, but I feel, like many acoustic musicians, that he's grown increasingly boring and souless (must be the red hair) with increasing fame.

Side note, why do red hairs be called gingers? Far as I know ginger is yellow, beige when not peeled.

While it's used interchangeably by most people, ginger is only really supposed refer to redheads with that very light reddish blond/orange color hair which actually does resemble the color found on a cut ginger root

much as I hate to admit it for the first, and I’m sure only, time in my life. I am jealous of Melbourne. Why do they get? Emperor, Vader, Exhumed even if they’re not the greatest band ever, and if I’m not mistaken Blood Incantation all in the span of about three months while Adelaide gets nothing at all?

I thought the days of religious nutjobs randomly doorknocking folks died with the rise of social media. Apparently not though because I had one not 15mins ago. Telling them I wasn’t interested didn’t get them to leave, telling them I’m blind, so I can’t read their stupid pamphlet didn’t get them to leave, but telling them I didn’t need a close relationship with God because I was already in a committed polyamorous one with Satan and Cthulhu sure did.

You're a curse! We just had the Jehovah's knock on the door.

I heard someone walking down the driveway from in the shed office so being a lazy fucker I turned on the security monitor instead of going out to greet them. They knocked on the house door and told my wife they were inviting us to some event. My wife told them she couldn't unlock the door and they could put the invite in the letterbox and they thanked her and left. They've walked about 850 metres from the road and back to their car only to say a dozen words put a piece of paper in the letterbox. They should thank me for all that exercise.

Hey folks, just swinging by quickly to say hi. I'll be away for a while longer... not that it particularly matters... lots going on here. The little girl turned one last week, the young lad is turning eleven this weekend, and we've just agreed to relocate a couple hours farther north for a good job opportunity for my wife. I hate moving but it looks to be a better situation for all of us. Probably making it happen in late June. In the meantime I'm working on an illustration project and a couple of recording things which will probably be shared here at some point. Hope everyone is well, best wishes, and I'm off to continue my walk around the outer borders.

Sounds intriguing on all fronts. Moving, art, music. The moving art of music.

I've been learning a guitar part written by someone else, which initially made my brain melt, but its coming together nicely now.

Enjoy your walk.

Nice to hear from you K, glad to hear you have all kinds of exciting things going on up there in New England. I'm especially glad to hear of your plans to eventually return and tell us all about them. We've essentially got the inmates running the asylum here in your absence, but don't worry take your time, I don't think we can get into too much trouble on our own. And of course your comrade ME pops 'round regularly to crack the whip and keep us in line, at least when he's not working or sleeping or off cavorting with Mrs Macabre.

Glad to hear things are going well for you mate, moving sucks, but better opportunities make the stress worth it.

Now, for what’s going on in my life… I get back from a whirlwind trip to the Gold Coast to celebrate my auntie‘s 50th birthday, and what do I find? One empty guitar case, two that are missing, and a bunch of other shit randomly moved around in my room. I don’t like jumping to conclusions, but considering there was only one person home for the last four days, it’s hard not to.

It amazes me ability to speak or comprehend language is no longer a prerequisite to work in roles that are essentially just communication.

Took the wife to hospital for surgery yesterday.  The receptionist/admission officer could barely speak English.

She did lots of pointing at things and and she got very frustrated when I asked "will you call me after my wife has woken up or do I call you?".  She stammered in broken English throwing in random words and being unable to construct a sentence. I said I would just call the hospital and grabbed a business card.

Same at my work - they have employed two business managers who can barely speak English.  They seem to be able to write it OK but have very poor ability to comprehend and speak. I feel almost sorry for one of them as well as frustrated as she struggles to construct even the most vasic sentences

It is ironic because ability to communicate clearly is an actual selection criteria

I can relate to this. I don't understand why people who can barely speak English or have an accent so thick as to be minimally comprehensible frequently seem to end up in cutomer service positions. Especially when it's in the medical field where being able to clearly communicate important information is required. I hate having to ask telephone customer service reps if there's anyone there who speaks passable English. I've had a few get really annoyed with me too, as if it were somehow my own fault that I could barely understand them because they could barely speak English. There must be other kinds of jobs these people could get where they wouldn't have to speak directly with the public as the primary function of their job.

Agreed especially when it is something as critical as medical services.  People are already stressed and irritable so need to good communication to ensure they know what is going on

But even in my role in budget management being able to communicate clearly is an important skill.  The woman I referred to previoisly who can barely string a sentence is paid as much as me but as no one wants to deal with her due to her lack of English speaking skills she is left doing basic work usually assigned to a low level clerk.

And she even stuffs that up because she doesn't understand instructions (even written down ones).

I was laying on the couch, cause my back's still giving me the shits, and one of the kids came around to drop something off for their mother. We were talking for a while and as the little smart arse is leaving she decided to pinch the TV remote, dial up some Metallica video on Youtube and leave the room still holding the remote. She left the remote on the table but it she may as well have taken the fucking thing with her for all the good it did me. I got about 5 songs into the video before I couldn't take any more and I decided the pain of getting up was better than listening to a new Metallica set.

Off out overnight for a "beer 'n burgers" night at some fancy pub restaurant about 45 mins away.  Booked a cheeky stay in a posh hotel as it is Mrs Macabre's birthday weekend so will make most of it.  More interested in the burgers rather than the beers in all honesty but there is the opportunity for some single malts as well so I will naturally take that.

On a less positive note, my fucking eczema on my hands is a real bitch at the mo, has been most of the year so far.  Normally get some flare up as the weather cools over winter but not like this for a while, can't wear my watch at the minute.  Despite easing off the booze and drinking more water it remains unhappy.

    • Whichever tier of thrash metal you consigned Sacred Reich back in the 80's/90's they still had their moments.  "Ignorance" & "Surf Nicaragura" did a great job of establishing the band, whereas "The American Way" just got a little to comfortable and accessible (the title track grates nowadays) for my ears.  A couple more records better left forgotten about and then nothing for twenty three years.  2019 alone has now seen three releases from Phil Rind and co.  A live EP, a split EP with Iron Reagan and now a full length.

Notable addition to the ranks for the current throng of releases is former Machine Head sticksman, Dave McClean.  Love or hate Machine Head, McClean is a more than capable drummer and his presence here is felt from the off with the opening and title track kicking things off with some real gusto.  'Divide & Conquer' and 'Salvation' muddle along nicely, never quite reaching any quality that would make my balls tingle but comfortable enough.  The looming build to 'Manifest Reality' delivers a real punch when the song starts proper.  Frenzied riffs and drums with shots of lead work to hold the interest.

There's a problem already though (I know, I am such a fucking mood hoover).  I don't like Phil's vocals.  I never had if I am being honest.  The aggression to them seems a little forced even when they are at their best on tracks like 'Manifest Reality'.  When he tries to sing it just feels weak though ('Salvation') and tracks lose real punch.  Give him a riffy number such as 'Killing Machine' and he is fine with the Reich engine (probably a poor choice of phrase) up in sixth gear.  For every thrashy riff there's a fair share of rock edged, local bar act rhythm aplenty too.

Let's not poo-poo proceedings though, because overall I actually enjoy "Awakening".  It is stacked full of catchy riffs that are sticky on the old ears.  Whilst not as raw as perhaps the - brilliant - artwork suggests with its black and white, tattoo flash sheet style design it is enjoyable enough.  Yes, 'Death Valley' & 'Something to Believe' have no place here, saved only by Arnett and Radziwill's lead work but 'Revolution' is a fucking 80's thrash heyday throwback to the extent that if you turn the TV on during it you might catch a new episode of Cheers!

    • Full length number 19 from overkill certainly makes a splash in the energy stakes, I mean there's some modern thrash bands that are a good two decades younger than Overkill who can only hope to achieve the levels of spunk that New Jersey's finest produce here.  That in itself is an achievement, for a band of Overkill's stature and reputation to be able to still sound relevant four decades into their career is no mean feat.  Even in the albums weaker moments it never gets redundant and the energy levels remain high.  There's a real sense of a band in a state of some renewed vigour, helped in no small part by the addition of Jason Bittner on drums.  The former Flotsam & Jetsam skinsman is nothing short of superb throughout "The Wings of War" and seems to have squeezed a little extra out of the rest of his peers.

The album kicks of with a great build to opening track "Last Man Standing" and for the first 4 tracks of the album the Overkill crew stomp, bash and groove their way to a solid level of consistency.  The lead work is of particular note and Blitz sounds as sneery and scathing as ever.  The album is well produced and mixed too with all parts of the thrash machine audible as the five piece hammer away at your skull with the usual blend of chugging riffs and infectious anthems.

There are weak moments as mentioned but they are more a victim of how good the strong tracks are.  In it's own right "Distortion" is a solid enough - if not slightly varied a journey from the last offering - but it just doesn't stand up well against a "Bat Shit Crazy" or a "Head of a Pin".  As the album draws to a close you get the increasing impression that the last few tracks are rescued really by some great solos and stomping skin work which is a shame because trimming of a couple of tracks may have made this less obvious.
