Funny thing is the dude buggered off after that, no strange how getting shut down by a blind man has that effect on people…

Well what choice does he have? He can't very well be seen striking a blind man now can he? So he has no choice but to retreat and live to fight another day. And maybe pick his battles more carefully next time.

Some times I dropped my nuts, other times I stood my ground. I don't know what that means. I only knocked one, smaller younger,  guy out cold that I remember, so many times I got knocked out.  Most times my punches felt weak and useless. I never managed to choke anyone out and all my wrist twists or pressure points attempts failed 100%. Well I am a drunken yob.

Never under estimate the stupidity of the Australian barfly. Pretty much every pub in the country here has a barfly who has no problem striking anything that it's front of him, or her. They aren't exclusively nocturnal but they really show their colours when the moon is full. It's not just people with disabilities they strike either, I used to have barflies try and beat the truck up as I stopped at traffic lights outside the pub.

Yeah but Blivvie's in Adelaide, isn't he? I mean like in town, not somewhere out in the wop wops. Has the law not taken hold in the metropolitan areas at least?

In Australia we are all about equal opportunity. We allow dumbarse barflies and stupid people to live in the both the city and the country. The big difference is the group sizes, in the city it seems these groups tend to be drawn to each other where as in the country they are only in some towns and usually number less than 5 in a group.

I've had drunks in regional areas standing in the middle of the road at traffic lights with their hand out "Superman style" as if they are going to stop the truck. Likewise I've had a bunch of drunks having shopping trolley races up the main street of a Melbourne suburb at 3am. In most cases the law escorts these people back to safety but they don't stop them and they have to know it's happening in the first place.

Also is anyone having a weird glitch in the off topic forum? Every thread I click on there the last page simply will not load, on my phone at least, works fine on my computer but I can’t read anything because of the terrible site background.

Cache issue on the phone? Some sort of image/ad/content blocker turned on?

Does the page look better on you PC if you change from light to dark mode? Or you can do what I did and change the entire CSS of the site. Not sure how capable siri is when it comes to a bit of coding but if you change the CSS you can make the background anything you want.

Damn it's fucking wet around here. We've had nearly 100ml of rain this month, which is a bit over average but with all the rain we've had leading up to this month (since Dec 2020 actually) it's just made the place soggy and the water has nowhere to go. They claimed in May we were coming out of La Nina (I bet she was happy), but then within a month they were revising long term outlooks again and telling us we were headed for a 3rd La Nina again this summer.

Don't get me wrong this place isn't as bad as up north where La Nina has delivered multiple floods that have required the government to actually relocate some suburbs. La Nina summers are also good in that they help keep down the number of bushfires, if there is any bushland after the floods washed them away. But it's shit for growing crops, its terrible for the ground, and it's just an PITA. I'm over it, it's coming up hay season and it will be too wet to even cut the grass let alone lay it down. /rant over

Had relatives affected by those floods actually, well not directly since they live on the Gold Coast, but indirectly since supply chains were heavily interrupted so the options for food were pretty limited for a little while. Also there Internet access apparently.

As for what’s on my mind? Well I’m pretty annoyed that someone keeps moving all my pans, seriously at least fucking tell me first.

It's been a shit of a few years with floods and fires, I don't think there is many people in Australia who don't know someone that has been effected by a natural disaster. There is areas not far from here where people are still living in caravans because they aren't allowed to rebuild their houses due to government red tape. One of the stupidest things I ever heard was the council banning the construction of a new home because the family whose house was burnt down were living in a dilapidated old caravan and council rules stated they were not allowed to have two separate dwellings on the same property.  But there has been all sorts of excuses offered up here by the council as to why people can't build/re-build. It's not like these people are new tree-changers looking for a new life, these are people trying to rebuild their lives from bushfires over 2 fucking years ago!

I have the same problem in my workshop with tools being moved. The problem for me is that I'm generally the only one who uses them!

I sometimes wonder if Trump nation could wave a MAGA wand and get everything they want without Democratic opposition-let's say install Trump as President for life....what would they actually do and want other banning abortion for all women at all times, building a wall and eliminating taxes for the super wealthy (which they've come damn close to doing anyway)?

I ask because as far as I can tell, they don't really stand for anything except culture wars, white grievance and,  sticking it to the libs. MAGA seems more about reactiveness.

I mean there wasn't even a 2020 Republican platform at their convention, it was just whatever Trump and  his family wanted to say on a given night. The platform seemed to be Trump's celebrity, misinformation and propaganda. But what do they want to accomplish except installing single  party rule?

They honestly don't even know Mark. They're just against whatever they think the "socialists" are for. Most Republicans have not a clue about platforms or policy or how our government works. They're an army of morons who are simply for whatever their demagogue cult leaders tell them to be for. That's how populism works, this is straight out of the fascist/communist extremist dictator playbook: keep the populace dumb and broke and addicted to destructive things like drugs and social media so you can control them.

You've seen what happens when someone takes a camera crew out in the field and asks Republican voters for their views on things, and most of their comments and answers literally don't even make any sense. Obviously the footage has been edited to give us the funniest and most shocking examples but still, plenty of them are legit crazy. It's fucking scary how uninformed and just plain downright stupid some of these people are. And that's just the voters, even some of the Republican politicians are shockingly moronic and uninformed as well. It's Idiocracy coming true before our very eyes. I would suggest everyone have to pass an IQ test before they can register to vote but we know that'll never happen.

Good points. There's also the notion that some of them equate Trump with a savior Christ figure-which has got to be one of the biggest ironies of all time----love your neighbor-do unto others-hahaha! If they have God on their side and anyone with different opinions is evil-Satan to borrow from a recent thread-than who cares about democracy? These are the great crusades 2.0.

And I cycle back-crusading for what? Deregulation of all weapons and environmental concerns, disbanding the the DOJ, FBI, -any institution that gets in Trump's way.....oh wait, that's fascism.

No time to debate you Orca, I'm trying to decide what to make for dinner. I want sausages, I have sausages, but I don't know what to do with them. Been googling recipes and nothing really sounds good. I'm sick of deviled sausages and I don't have the right kind of sausages for that anyway, and no apples. Why don't you come cook me some spicy, exotic dish from the southern hemisphere to go with my black beer and even blacker metal?

Now I'm offended you don't have time for me!!

Other than just cooking them on the BBQ sausages for me either get made into devilled sausages or a sausage casserole which has very similar ingredients to devilled sausages (ex apples) but has a richer flavour. A couple of times I've done a sausage and caramelised onion recipe and on even rarer occasions I just mix up whatever the hell I can find and see what happens, but usually sausages are a lazy meal.

Lazy is my middle name. But I do quite like sausages and more importantly the kid fucking loves sausages, so it lets me kill two birds with one stone on a hot Saturday night when I don't feel like standing in the kitchen and making two separate meals like I often do. I'll google a few different recipes and take a little something from each of them and then see what else is in the fridge and figure something out. These sausages have cotija cheese and poblano peppers in them, I just hope they're not gonna be too spicy for the little guy. As I remember last time I had them they weren't too bad so I just won't tell him. Almost 7pm now, I should probably get started pretty soon.

I just pulled apart an old ink jet printer partly because the council don't allow us to throw electrical items, dead or alive, in the garbage bins, but also just to see how it works and how many pieces I can get it down too. For a 20 year old printer than has never had a cartridge leak or explode fuck there was a lot of ink spread around.

Just posting to show I am still alive. Started week 2 of a new job, hence been scarce around these parts.

Have been piecing together recent posts, mainly Navy in Vegas from the looks. Let me know if I missed any controversy.

Not much metal to report. I bashed out an albums' worth of vocals on Saturday morning in a local studio. Was pretty blown out afterwards. For the first time I felt sympathy for Mike Åkerfeldt not doing death growls anymore. At some point they do disappear and you start to sound like the guy from Liabach. Which is cool in itself, but not the sound you're going for.

Tickets to The Ocean and LLNN (heavier version of Cult of Luna - Mark first put me onto them) this Saturday at local pub. To be honest I haven't heard much of The Ocean and unlikely to become an expert by the weekend so will just wait and see if they wow me and get inspired to check out further.

    • Whichever tier of thrash metal you consigned Sacred Reich back in the 80's/90's they still had their moments.  "Ignorance" & "Surf Nicaragura" did a great job of establishing the band, whereas "The American Way" just got a little to comfortable and accessible (the title track grates nowadays) for my ears.  A couple more records better left forgotten about and then nothing for twenty three years.  2019 alone has now seen three releases from Phil Rind and co.  A live EP, a split EP with Iron Reagan and now a full length.

Notable addition to the ranks for the current throng of releases is former Machine Head sticksman, Dave McClean.  Love or hate Machine Head, McClean is a more than capable drummer and his presence here is felt from the off with the opening and title track kicking things off with some real gusto.  'Divide & Conquer' and 'Salvation' muddle along nicely, never quite reaching any quality that would make my balls tingle but comfortable enough.  The looming build to 'Manifest Reality' delivers a real punch when the song starts proper.  Frenzied riffs and drums with shots of lead work to hold the interest.

There's a problem already though (I know, I am such a fucking mood hoover).  I don't like Phil's vocals.  I never had if I am being honest.  The aggression to them seems a little forced even when they are at their best on tracks like 'Manifest Reality'.  When he tries to sing it just feels weak though ('Salvation') and tracks lose real punch.  Give him a riffy number such as 'Killing Machine' and he is fine with the Reich engine (probably a poor choice of phrase) up in sixth gear.  For every thrashy riff there's a fair share of rock edged, local bar act rhythm aplenty too.

Let's not poo-poo proceedings though, because overall I actually enjoy "Awakening".  It is stacked full of catchy riffs that are sticky on the old ears.  Whilst not as raw as perhaps the - brilliant - artwork suggests with its black and white, tattoo flash sheet style design it is enjoyable enough.  Yes, 'Death Valley' & 'Something to Believe' have no place here, saved only by Arnett and Radziwill's lead work but 'Revolution' is a fucking 80's thrash heyday throwback to the extent that if you turn the TV on during it you might catch a new episode of Cheers!

    • Full length number 19 from overkill certainly makes a splash in the energy stakes, I mean there's some modern thrash bands that are a good two decades younger than Overkill who can only hope to achieve the levels of spunk that New Jersey's finest produce here.  That in itself is an achievement, for a band of Overkill's stature and reputation to be able to still sound relevant four decades into their career is no mean feat.  Even in the albums weaker moments it never gets redundant and the energy levels remain high.  There's a real sense of a band in a state of some renewed vigour, helped in no small part by the addition of Jason Bittner on drums.  The former Flotsam & Jetsam skinsman is nothing short of superb throughout "The Wings of War" and seems to have squeezed a little extra out of the rest of his peers.

The album kicks of with a great build to opening track "Last Man Standing" and for the first 4 tracks of the album the Overkill crew stomp, bash and groove their way to a solid level of consistency.  The lead work is of particular note and Blitz sounds as sneery and scathing as ever.  The album is well produced and mixed too with all parts of the thrash machine audible as the five piece hammer away at your skull with the usual blend of chugging riffs and infectious anthems.

There are weak moments as mentioned but they are more a victim of how good the strong tracks are.  In it's own right "Distortion" is a solid enough - if not slightly varied a journey from the last offering - but it just doesn't stand up well against a "Bat Shit Crazy" or a "Head of a Pin".  As the album draws to a close you get the increasing impression that the last few tracks are rescued really by some great solos and stomping skin work which is a shame because trimming of a couple of tracks may have made this less obvious.
