Nope, no idea who they are :) I got to know Whitenoise and the rest of the unruly bunch on Metal-Fi, but that's as far back as we go. I was part of a couple of other forums in the early 00's (White trash devil, Global Domination) but then forums as a concept sort of died when everyone moved to FB.

Yeah I was largely unsuccessful in getting my metalhead friends to join me at Metal-Fi. I did get 4 or 5 of them to come by and sign up but they all stopped posting after a few weeks. Surge was the only one who stuck around and kept posting. He told me over the weekend that he's busy with school (went back to college in his 40's) but he'll come sign up when he gets a chance.

Both, is the only sensible answer.

You never asked for advice (probably wise given this bunch), but just try to pay attention and don't try to impress him/her. As long as you're honestly interested in the person and what (s)he says you're good. Everything else is up to the other person.

Alright then, so assuming no one got cold feet or cancelled at the last minute and the date took place as scheduled, are you gonna tell us what happened or leave us hanging? How did it go??? Is there going to be a second ever date?

I'm guessing they've already eloped and started a family. We'll hear from Dave in a few years. Either that, or the "date" was @Natassja luring him out to the countryside so she could sacrifice him in the basement and eat his liver.

The North Western UK Vampires Union policy on human consumption forbids certain occupations from being eaten given their importance to society and pizza delivery drivers are on that list.  It’s an agreement the Union has with Domino’s.  Other exempt roles are NHS, the Police (they ask so many questions when one of that lot goes “missing”) Amazon delivery drivers and train spotters (dullest meat ever).

So many regulations. It wasn't always like this. All for the greater good, I suppose. Domino's smells funny anyway.

It went very well! We have a fair few things in common both love Top Gear (well the old, good TG) and The Grand Tour, love cars especially classic cars only thing is she isnt a big fan of metal but she doesnt hate it either! We got some food and chilled out at hers and I introduced her to Ash Vs Evil Dead which she absolutely loved! We finished season 1 and left it there and she asked when she would see me next so we’ve arranged to meet again tomorrow, says she can’t wait to watch the rest with me :D looking forward to it

I know, I know. I'm sorry. It just seemed so likely, and I wasn't sure who to root for in that scenario, because I know you need to feed, and at the same time Dave is such a nice young man, and I'd miss him, and yet he does look like a tasty morsel and I wouldn't entirely blame you, and I know Macabre is too far away to have been the culprit this time, and I guess I just got lost in the human interest of it all. I'll try not to jump to any conclusions in the future.

Well actually he just speculated that maybe you'd eaten his liver with some fava beans and a nice Chianti. None of us ever really thought you'd eaten all of him with mashed and gravy and peas, or stashed his remains in the coffin freezer like some kind of a savage heathen cannibal. 😜

Peas!  Pah.  Carrots are the future!

I actually hate peas. I only chose to use peas in that example because they just seem so English. Actually I think spinach pairs nicely with liver. And onions of course.

Love me some onions but the fiancee is allergic to them which makes cooking interesting and dining out a minefield.

Dining out, haha, wanna talk about a minefield? My late wife and I used to enjoy dining out 2 or 3 times a week before the baby came along. We would select an establishment, get our table, peruse the menu and discuss what we wanted. And then she liked to wait until the food came at which time she'd inspect both of our plates and then at least once a week she'd insist that I switch meals with her. Her reasoning being simply "Ooooh that looks good, I want that!" Many times I tried offering to just order her another one of what I had so she could have a plate of her own and we could both enjoy our dinners, but that was deemed unacceptable. She didn't want to appear to the staff to be rude or entitled or ungrateful or unable to make up her mind. I tried explaining that if I had wanted to eat what she had ordered, I would have just ordered it myself to begin with. That logic bounced right off too. More often than not I'd just swap plates with her to keep the peace (and hold onto my chance for some nookie later, not gonna lie) but there were a few times I stuck to my guns and didn't switch with her. Yeah, that didn't go so well. The aftermath usually involved me following along behind her at a snail's pace in my car as she walked the 10 or 15 minutes home carrying her silly high heels in hand. Because I knew if I just drove home and waited for her, in effect leaving her unprotected and vulnerable in a strange foreign land then there really would have been hell to pay.

    • Whichever tier of thrash metal you consigned Sacred Reich back in the 80's/90's they still had their moments.  "Ignorance" & "Surf Nicaragura" did a great job of establishing the band, whereas "The American Way" just got a little to comfortable and accessible (the title track grates nowadays) for my ears.  A couple more records better left forgotten about and then nothing for twenty three years.  2019 alone has now seen three releases from Phil Rind and co.  A live EP, a split EP with Iron Reagan and now a full length.

Notable addition to the ranks for the current throng of releases is former Machine Head sticksman, Dave McClean.  Love or hate Machine Head, McClean is a more than capable drummer and his presence here is felt from the off with the opening and title track kicking things off with some real gusto.  'Divide & Conquer' and 'Salvation' muddle along nicely, never quite reaching any quality that would make my balls tingle but comfortable enough.  The looming build to 'Manifest Reality' delivers a real punch when the song starts proper.  Frenzied riffs and drums with shots of lead work to hold the interest.

There's a problem already though (I know, I am such a fucking mood hoover).  I don't like Phil's vocals.  I never had if I am being honest.  The aggression to them seems a little forced even when they are at their best on tracks like 'Manifest Reality'.  When he tries to sing it just feels weak though ('Salvation') and tracks lose real punch.  Give him a riffy number such as 'Killing Machine' and he is fine with the Reich engine (probably a poor choice of phrase) up in sixth gear.  For every thrashy riff there's a fair share of rock edged, local bar act rhythm aplenty too.

Let's not poo-poo proceedings though, because overall I actually enjoy "Awakening".  It is stacked full of catchy riffs that are sticky on the old ears.  Whilst not as raw as perhaps the - brilliant - artwork suggests with its black and white, tattoo flash sheet style design it is enjoyable enough.  Yes, 'Death Valley' & 'Something to Believe' have no place here, saved only by Arnett and Radziwill's lead work but 'Revolution' is a fucking 80's thrash heyday throwback to the extent that if you turn the TV on during it you might catch a new episode of Cheers!

    • Full length number 19 from overkill certainly makes a splash in the energy stakes, I mean there's some modern thrash bands that are a good two decades younger than Overkill who can only hope to achieve the levels of spunk that New Jersey's finest produce here.  That in itself is an achievement, for a band of Overkill's stature and reputation to be able to still sound relevant four decades into their career is no mean feat.  Even in the albums weaker moments it never gets redundant and the energy levels remain high.  There's a real sense of a band in a state of some renewed vigour, helped in no small part by the addition of Jason Bittner on drums.  The former Flotsam & Jetsam skinsman is nothing short of superb throughout "The Wings of War" and seems to have squeezed a little extra out of the rest of his peers.

The album kicks of with a great build to opening track "Last Man Standing" and for the first 4 tracks of the album the Overkill crew stomp, bash and groove their way to a solid level of consistency.  The lead work is of particular note and Blitz sounds as sneery and scathing as ever.  The album is well produced and mixed too with all parts of the thrash machine audible as the five piece hammer away at your skull with the usual blend of chugging riffs and infectious anthems.

There are weak moments as mentioned but they are more a victim of how good the strong tracks are.  In it's own right "Distortion" is a solid enough - if not slightly varied a journey from the last offering - but it just doesn't stand up well against a "Bat Shit Crazy" or a "Head of a Pin".  As the album draws to a close you get the increasing impression that the last few tracks are rescued really by some great solos and stomping skin work which is a shame because trimming of a couple of tracks may have made this less obvious.
