Just go to the part with sax! Love the mix, even when theres lots of going on, i get no ear fatigue and hear everything really well.. I´ll keep listening.. :) It will take quite few listens to really get the grasp of everything. So far i like it, in all it´s complexity it´s still quite atmospheric, and the later one is the thing what usually gets its hooks on me.

I love that sax. One of the guitarists played a lot of the sax parts on the recording. Wish we could have that in the mix for our live show, but it's not gonna happen this time around. Thanks for checking it out!

My parents will be going through something similar very soon, there are three sheds and a greenhouse on the ancient farm they just bought and all are in desperate need of repair. They probably have a couple years worth of work ahead of them.

You guys and California... it's scary stuff. Are you in danger of the fires reaching where you live?

No, we’re pretty safe here in rainy Melbourne, but the fires have come within about 80kms of my parents’ house, although they’re in a town that is quite safe and away from forests.

It’s the rural towns in forested areas that are getting hammered. Everything is so damn dry even at the best of times.

There’s nothing to be done to stop the fires, it’s just how Australia is. I don’t know what’s going to come out of this debacle.

My sister lives in California, so we must have a thing for flames.

Also, your parents’ new farm sounds very Lovecraftean and exciting. Ancient farms in the north east and all that.

On my mind is, if you love a band then please post your thoughts in its thread in the sub-forums. If you discover that there isn't a thread for the band you want to talk about (after looking extensively through past pages) then please start one.

I'd love for there to be more band/album talk here, especially when news occurs.

I wish they lived closer, but sadly my folks are in the American South - the boondocks of North Carolina. Their new place is about a 14 hour drive for us. I haven't been able to visit them in a couple years and it sucks, I'm a little worried about them starting over in rural isolation in their 70s.

On my mind: the show was a fucking blast. I could have played better -- a lot better, my ego says -- but the show overall went really well, the music was well received, the venue was killer, the turnout was alright, the other bands rocked. And on the drive back, I fell in love with Maine. Rolling hills and evergreen forests under a blanket of snow, with some deciduous limbs clawing ineffectively at a big, blue sky. Fresh air and miles of wilderness. At least that's how it looked to me. I can't wait to go back. I kinda want to move there.

It's terrible about the fires :( I saw some of the sick animals they have found earlier on the news and it has just broke my heart. So sad for everyone there and all the loss, devastating.

We'll be getting it in the next few days - I'll post it when it's up. I'm listening to the audio now and it's actually pretty good for a live recording, sounds better than I had hoped. And maybe some of my mistakes weren't quite as bad as I'd thought :D

Awesome look forward to it..and no I bet they weren't !

I didn't, you know, let go of the strings or stop playing or anything, so there's that...

On a side note - we were expecting to have to euthanize our cat over the weekend, but she started regaining mobility and eating and using the litter box. We're really really happy and relieved, and just going to see how it goes. Her motion is probably going to stay limited, and we know she won't be around forever, but it's awesome to see her working to get herself back into form. What a trooper. :):):)

Well that is always a bonus :)

I have been wondering about her but didn't really want to bring it up, I am so glad to hear that though, bless her.

I was packing up the Christmas tree today (very late, I know), and I swear I either got stabbed or implanted by a piece of fake tree leaf and my ring finger on the left hand is a bit tender.

I threw the damn thing out the door. This year we'll go for a real tree I reckon.

Hmm.. i was figuring, since i am super lazy to find new bands to enjoy. Hell, or even take time to look into a band properly that i enjoy some songs from, i am going to take it as my mission to dive more deeply into them. Already started with My dying bride like i stated in their topic, and i've found many songs i really enjoy and never heard before. This will be hugely beneficial to me, and something i really should have put effort towards long ago.

Tonight's Wolf Moon and eclipse, I wish the skies had been more clearer..

It was as clear as can be here, but to be honest wasn't really that amazing. In no way comparable to the eerie atmosphere a full eclipse creates.

I hope she is ok, thinking of you both..

The night sky was clear as can be tonight so the moon was full and beautiful! Shame about last night but nevermind.

Oh no, I'm really sorry to hear it. Is she getting the help she needs? Are you able to visit her?

Thank you for your concern. No, she isn't getting much help yet as she is still being "held" in an emergency room, waiting to be placed in a hospital whenever and where ever (within the state) a bed opens up. In the meantime, she really doesn't get much treatment, but at least she is safe and being given her meds. I am thankful for that much. Yes, I am able to visit her, and do every day; tomorrow my parents are coming with me.

I hope you find the strength you need in such a dire situation, nothing is as frustrating as a loved one who is on the path of causing harm for themselves. At least she is now safe, and the fact that you are there for her must be hugely important, there are so many people struggling same kind of issues alone. I really admire your courage for sharing such sensitive matters, and i hope the situation evolves to something much better!

I think i might have expressed myself bit.. unclearly now that i read it again.

(Full) moon is an absolutely stunning thing, and full of mystery that has captivated human thoughts through our entire existense. You can get seriously mesmerized by it, from its function (entire universe does that to me really) to the eerie visual treat it offers. It was just the eclipse part that was rather disappointing, i was hoping for this feeling of unease in my stomach which ie. (near) total solar eclipse will give me.. but there was none of that.

Thanks man, although while the Countess should probably be receiving help for her insatiable erotic appetite, it was Parker’s wife who is currently seeking treatment in hospital. Best wishes to @Parker. All the best mate in what must be a difficult time.

In other news I visited my parents’ place on Friday and my mother is convinced the fires are going to reach them, despite the Alfather and I telling her it’s practically impossible. There was rain while I was there too - hope it reached the fires.

Did you know that when it’s cold and when it’s dark the freezing moon can obsess you?

    • Whichever tier of thrash metal you consigned Sacred Reich back in the 80's/90's they still had their moments.  "Ignorance" & "Surf Nicaragura" did a great job of establishing the band, whereas "The American Way" just got a little to comfortable and accessible (the title track grates nowadays) for my ears.  A couple more records better left forgotten about and then nothing for twenty three years.  2019 alone has now seen three releases from Phil Rind and co.  A live EP, a split EP with Iron Reagan and now a full length.

Notable addition to the ranks for the current throng of releases is former Machine Head sticksman, Dave McClean.  Love or hate Machine Head, McClean is a more than capable drummer and his presence here is felt from the off with the opening and title track kicking things off with some real gusto.  'Divide & Conquer' and 'Salvation' muddle along nicely, never quite reaching any quality that would make my balls tingle but comfortable enough.  The looming build to 'Manifest Reality' delivers a real punch when the song starts proper.  Frenzied riffs and drums with shots of lead work to hold the interest.

There's a problem already though (I know, I am such a fucking mood hoover).  I don't like Phil's vocals.  I never had if I am being honest.  The aggression to them seems a little forced even when they are at their best on tracks like 'Manifest Reality'.  When he tries to sing it just feels weak though ('Salvation') and tracks lose real punch.  Give him a riffy number such as 'Killing Machine' and he is fine with the Reich engine (probably a poor choice of phrase) up in sixth gear.  For every thrashy riff there's a fair share of rock edged, local bar act rhythm aplenty too.

Let's not poo-poo proceedings though, because overall I actually enjoy "Awakening".  It is stacked full of catchy riffs that are sticky on the old ears.  Whilst not as raw as perhaps the - brilliant - artwork suggests with its black and white, tattoo flash sheet style design it is enjoyable enough.  Yes, 'Death Valley' & 'Something to Believe' have no place here, saved only by Arnett and Radziwill's lead work but 'Revolution' is a fucking 80's thrash heyday throwback to the extent that if you turn the TV on during it you might catch a new episode of Cheers!

    • Full length number 19 from overkill certainly makes a splash in the energy stakes, I mean there's some modern thrash bands that are a good two decades younger than Overkill who can only hope to achieve the levels of spunk that New Jersey's finest produce here.  That in itself is an achievement, for a band of Overkill's stature and reputation to be able to still sound relevant four decades into their career is no mean feat.  Even in the albums weaker moments it never gets redundant and the energy levels remain high.  There's a real sense of a band in a state of some renewed vigour, helped in no small part by the addition of Jason Bittner on drums.  The former Flotsam & Jetsam skinsman is nothing short of superb throughout "The Wings of War" and seems to have squeezed a little extra out of the rest of his peers.

The album kicks of with a great build to opening track "Last Man Standing" and for the first 4 tracks of the album the Overkill crew stomp, bash and groove their way to a solid level of consistency.  The lead work is of particular note and Blitz sounds as sneery and scathing as ever.  The album is well produced and mixed too with all parts of the thrash machine audible as the five piece hammer away at your skull with the usual blend of chugging riffs and infectious anthems.

There are weak moments as mentioned but they are more a victim of how good the strong tracks are.  In it's own right "Distortion" is a solid enough - if not slightly varied a journey from the last offering - but it just doesn't stand up well against a "Bat Shit Crazy" or a "Head of a Pin".  As the album draws to a close you get the increasing impression that the last few tracks are rescued really by some great solos and stomping skin work which is a shame because trimming of a couple of tracks may have made this less obvious.
