What's on your mind?

Seems typical of you Brits. I'm lead to believe you label it a 'heat wave' if the temperature ever hits 25c...

Also hearing some suspicious sounds. Rattling of the back gate (which is chained and padlocked shut). Neither of my brothers are in the state right now. They have keys for the front door anyway. Bottom line I have the police number already keyed into my phone ready to go. Hopefully I don't need to actually make that call.

Wow, had a great couple of days with my GF, and we've decided to get engaged soon. We know right now we shouldn't get engaged yet because we've haven't been together long enough, so we aren't officially engaged yet. But, we're pretty sure, and we've bought the rings. This is just completely amazing and unreal feeling. I feel like I've found who I've been looking for my whole life. I've never felt like this. For so many years I was just so full of anger and hatred and bitterness, and I hated myself and thought I was worthless. It's actually confusing to try to process these emotions I'm just so not used to. When I left her place this morning, sitting in my car while it was warming up, I burst into tears, just so overwhelmed by emotion. It's just so hard to believe that someone loves me and I'm worth something. I can't wait to put that ring an her finger.

Congratulations man.

So, I saw something in the Now Playing thread that I wanted to discuss, and that thread isn't the right place. Maybe this should be it's own thread. Anyway, Iceni seemed to be saying that he won't give money to Ishan because Ishan is a satanist and Iceni is christian. Iceni, please let me know if I have misinterpreted your words or their meaning. I find this confusing. I could understand with Vikernes, or even Samoth (because he was involved in church burning), but I've never heard of Ishan being involved in that. It seems that Iceni won't pay for Ishan's music simply because their religions have opposing views. I find this confusing for two reasons: 1) Have you ever bought anything from a muslim? Did you know that muhamed raped a nine year old girl? Are you o.k. with that and not with Ishan just for disagreeing with you? Are you going to keep giving any muslims money with this in mind? 2) You enjoy Ishan's music, but won't pay for it, and that is stealing and stealing is a sin, and in chistianity sins make you go to hell and suffer eternal physical pain. Is the future of your immortal soul less important to you than making sure someone who believed something opposed to your view point doesn't get any of your money? Iceni, I'm not calling you out, I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm just saying I don't understand your point of view.

That's fantastic Parker. I wish you all the best.

So then an update. More rattling of the gate, this time I heard someone breathing heavily to boot. I flicked the light on out there and heard someone running away. I imagine I'll call the cops in the morning.

Oh, I thought he was like downloading mp3s. That makes more sense. Like I said, I'm just trying to understand.

Yep inspecting the gate this morning there was a bit of damage. So looks like last night I narrowly avoided having my house broken into. That's a bit frightening to be honest.

Shit. Sorry to hear that. Did you end up calling the police?

It’s all happening around here. Parker’s getting (sort of) engaged, people are trying to break into Relentless’ place, BAN hates stairs.

In my world, True Belief has personally outraged me by informing me he isn’t going to Paradise Lost this Saturday, which is simply unacceptable.

Also, my wife, the immortal Countess of Bathorian blood-bathing belligerence, just counted her shoe collection and informed me she has 37 pairs. This seems to me to be excessive.

Yeah, and I was told there's nothing they can really do as I didn't get a look at the person. I suppose it could have been worse so there's that.

Hey RelentlessOblivion I didn't know you were into creative writing, I am too. What sort of style and genre do you write? I'm very interested in the Beat Generation, and take influence from William S. Burroughs, but my stile seems to also be influenced by Anne Rice and Ernest Hemingway, even if that's a sort of contradiction. I wrote a novel, then spilt soda on my laptop and lost it. Should have backed it up some how. At least I've heard that there may be a way to recover the info from the hard drive.

Obviously I have had a lot to say in the past couple of days, so this might be a long post, sorry about that. I have recently come to a very sad conclusion. And that is that monsters exist, and they don't look different from other people. What I mean to say is that in the past I thought bad people were like Darth Vader, they wanted and tried to do the right thing but something went all wrong and they ended up doing evil things. Sadly this is not really the case. It seems there are true Palpatines out there. There really are evil monsters that are 100% evil and unredeemable, and have no conscience or soul. I am particularly talking about rapists and pedophiles. With all these stories coming out about celebrities and politicians. I can not for the life of me imagine how a human being could rape a girl or a child, these can't be people, these are soulless monsters. I'm really losing faith in humanity and starting to be ashamed of being a man.

Dad phoned earlier and informed me that we are going for a meal tomorrow seeing I am off work :)  I look forward to spending all the time I can with them now they've both hit 60 ..time flies and I feel bad for all the frisk and carryingon from a younger unhinged me. Maybe still a little unhinged but a lot more grateful.

    • Whichever tier of thrash metal you consigned Sacred Reich back in the 80's/90's they still had their moments.  "Ignorance" & "Surf Nicaragura" did a great job of establishing the band, whereas "The American Way" just got a little to comfortable and accessible (the title track grates nowadays) for my ears.  A couple more records better left forgotten about and then nothing for twenty three years.  2019 alone has now seen three releases from Phil Rind and co.  A live EP, a split EP with Iron Reagan and now a full length.

Notable addition to the ranks for the current throng of releases is former Machine Head sticksman, Dave McClean.  Love or hate Machine Head, McClean is a more than capable drummer and his presence here is felt from the off with the opening and title track kicking things off with some real gusto.  'Divide & Conquer' and 'Salvation' muddle along nicely, never quite reaching any quality that would make my balls tingle but comfortable enough.  The looming build to 'Manifest Reality' delivers a real punch when the song starts proper.  Frenzied riffs and drums with shots of lead work to hold the interest.

There's a problem already though (I know, I am such a fucking mood hoover).  I don't like Phil's vocals.  I never had if I am being honest.  The aggression to them seems a little forced even when they are at their best on tracks like 'Manifest Reality'.  When he tries to sing it just feels weak though ('Salvation') and tracks lose real punch.  Give him a riffy number such as 'Killing Machine' and he is fine with the Reich engine (probably a poor choice of phrase) up in sixth gear.  For every thrashy riff there's a fair share of rock edged, local bar act rhythm aplenty too.

Let's not poo-poo proceedings though, because overall I actually enjoy "Awakening".  It is stacked full of catchy riffs that are sticky on the old ears.  Whilst not as raw as perhaps the - brilliant - artwork suggests with its black and white, tattoo flash sheet style design it is enjoyable enough.  Yes, 'Death Valley' & 'Something to Believe' have no place here, saved only by Arnett and Radziwill's lead work but 'Revolution' is a fucking 80's thrash heyday throwback to the extent that if you turn the TV on during it you might catch a new episode of Cheers!

    • Full length number 19 from overkill certainly makes a splash in the energy stakes, I mean there's some modern thrash bands that are a good two decades younger than Overkill who can only hope to achieve the levels of spunk that New Jersey's finest produce here.  That in itself is an achievement, for a band of Overkill's stature and reputation to be able to still sound relevant four decades into their career is no mean feat.  Even in the albums weaker moments it never gets redundant and the energy levels remain high.  There's a real sense of a band in a state of some renewed vigour, helped in no small part by the addition of Jason Bittner on drums.  The former Flotsam & Jetsam skinsman is nothing short of superb throughout "The Wings of War" and seems to have squeezed a little extra out of the rest of his peers.

The album kicks of with a great build to opening track "Last Man Standing" and for the first 4 tracks of the album the Overkill crew stomp, bash and groove their way to a solid level of consistency.  The lead work is of particular note and Blitz sounds as sneery and scathing as ever.  The album is well produced and mixed too with all parts of the thrash machine audible as the five piece hammer away at your skull with the usual blend of chugging riffs and infectious anthems.

There are weak moments as mentioned but they are more a victim of how good the strong tracks are.  In it's own right "Distortion" is a solid enough - if not slightly varied a journey from the last offering - but it just doesn't stand up well against a "Bat Shit Crazy" or a "Head of a Pin".  As the album draws to a close you get the increasing impression that the last few tracks are rescued really by some great solos and stomping skin work which is a shame because trimming of a couple of tracks may have made this less obvious.
