I´m so bored... waiting for a hockey match again.. spent several hours doing songwriting and recording, posted something for a collaboration to Kompoz and hoping for vocals and drums at least. Kind of a simple song with "boring" chord progressions, but hoping that a singer will spice it up.. if not.. not bothered tbh. Not a song that i´m exactly too serious about. Was quick and fun to do. :D

Such passion. Such enthusiasm. :D

Their silence on this incriminates them all the more, quite frankly.

It's TB I'm most suspicious of. Natassja seems to be a fairly modest if energetic cannibal, Macabre has certainly learned to hide his hidey-holes better over the past few centuries, you've been very forthcoming about your family un-life, and Relentless seems to have given up his unfortunate habits. All we ever hear from TB is the standard "neither confirm nor deny" sort of patter... the exercise routine... the rocket launchers on his cars... and now hidden compartments within his home... well, it's adding up.

It´s baby steps. I am reinventing myself musically and trying to up my game so i need to be patient to get where i want to be, can´t make the greatest thing ever right away. :D  Hell John Fogerty spent 10 years practicing and developing himself so he could make the record he wanted to make! Result was Blue moon swamp. :)

Almost there. Hasn't been that close in a long damn time. http://thebulletin.org/timeline

"Today, rising temperatures, resulting from the industrial-scale burning of fossil fuels, will change life on Earth as we know " No the fuck it will not. Volcanic activity has gone on for billions of fucking years on this rock and you think a bunch of insignificant (compared to the planet, myself included) are really going to DAMAGE, THE PLANET? HAHHAHAHHAHA the planet is fine. Even if there was such a thing as global warming, the planet would be fine, the PEOPLE would be fucked. Or adapt. I could deal with some warmer weather, lower heating costs, more growing season. Hotter more raunchier sex... oh shit did I say that out loud?

There's no "if" or "was" about climate change. It's happening and it absolutely will change life on Earth as we know it. It's affecting the oceans and changing weather patterns already. Unfortunately the animals currently running the zoo in DC refuse to acknowledge that, despite decades of research, and they and big oil have muddied the waters enough that a bunch of "average voters" think it's a matter of opinion that's up for debate, which they mistakenly think means they get to choose facts depending on how they feel about it. And now the new guy in charge is appointing someone who doesn't "believe in" climate change to head the EPA and has forbidden them from publishing or talking about any of their research. He's poised to do incredible damage. Just because the Earth will have all of the life baked off of it in the next few billion years doesn't mean I don't want to leave it a better place for my son, or more accurately the grandkids of the people already struggling in marginal climates around the world.

I'm amazed that you know any communists.

What exactly made you decide this was the time and place to go on an uninformed political tirade?

Prove it. Fucking prove that there is catastrophic man-made global warming. And the EPA should be dissolved, waste of money.

And yeah I know about communists and communism. Let's have a short history lesson shall we? Since you seem to not have paid much attention in school. Joseph Stalin, General Secretary of the Communist Party in the Soviet Union. Giant fucking asshole. He had people falsely accused and arrested, executed without trial and sent to gulags throughout the USSR. (See this is what happens when you libs get your way and get all of our guns taken away, because then the government can decide to just march their happy asses right through ours.) Private property was confiscated. Wealthy farmers were deemed a threat to communist rule and were left homeless and without even the simplest of items. Many of them were again; shipped to prison and work camps where many died from exposure and other harsh conditions. Some people revolted, but when faced with the GPU and the red army they were again; killed or sent to do hard labor, and of course there was much propaganda, much like you assholes spew. Stalin ordered that more farms be collectivized by force and the quota for produce was increased, the farmers were deprived of their own food that they grew. The communists in Ukraine actually had the balls to ask Stalin and the Moscow commies to lower the quota. What did Obam... I mean Stalin do? He sent the red army to "purge" the communist party of Ukraine. Which most likely ended up as a mass grave. All families had their food confiscated. Anybody caught stealing food was shot or imprisoned. People in the cities who were starving were buried in mass graves as well, and people who were laying on sidewalks, most likely too weak to move from starvation; who were still alive; thought to be dead, were buried as well. Of course the government was fed well, I mean, we can't let comrade Joe and comrade Dmitri and whoever the fuck else starve right? But I think you get the idea by now. At least I hope so. I'm probably talking to a brick wall. I mean fucking hell, 7 Million people died!!! Because of communism, and don't give me this shit about socialism either. You know the USSR stands for Union of Soviet Socialist Republics? If the United States were to have a socialist government instead of a representative republic, it wouldn't be long before it turns into communism. And communism does not turn out well for it's citizens. Free speech, gone. Right to self defense, necessary to the security of a free people, liberty, pursuit of happiness, you know, general non-tyranny. Gone. "Oh but but, it's still a country for the people by the people!" No the fuck it's not! At least it wasn't under Clinton, Bush and Obama. I'll be truly amazed if it is different under Pres. Trump. You know actions speak louder than words. But if we had gotten that old hag instead? Commieville USA here we fucking come. I will now let you reply so I can rip it apart yet again.

Here, I said what I wanted to say, but for a bonus you can read this; https://www.tfpstudentaction.org/blog/10-reasons-to-reject-socialism

Would you prefer to live in North Korea? Perhaps Cuba? I'm sure it's nice this time of year. China perhaps? Or how about Russia? I'm sure the old pissed off disgruntled citizens of Russia would just looooove you! Oh you'd rather live in a country where the government takes care of you and you don't have to do anything? Fine, but America is not that country. If you hate so much what people like my self have been trying to preserve since the dawn of man, then go to a different fucking country, where you can be a cog in their tyrannical totalitarian machine.

Oh well, it's pointless after all. So much for getting drunk and talking about metal and being compassionate and all that, huh?

This isn't a political website. If you want that kind of argument, go somewhere else. Climate science is real, it doesn't give two shits whether you think it's real or not, and it shouldn't be a political issue. I've been in enough of these conversations to know that my own efforts will be wasted; as much fun as sounds like trying to "prove global warming" over the internet to a drunk right-wing high-school dropout who's half my age in the middle of a Minnesota  winter, I think I'll take a pass. I strongly encourage you to go find out more about it for yourself, because you're wrong, and it actually matters.

Thankfully, you'll have plenty of time to read about it. You've worn out your welcome. Nice knowing you.

Anyway, so today we went out to a wildlife zoo that focuses on Australian animals (Healesville Sanctuary to the Victorians here), and checked out the animals with the children (of the grave). They really liked it and I was actually a lot more impressed with the place since I was there last three or four years ago. We saw the birds of prey presentation etc and I was suitably impressed.

Now I countdown the clock until it's time for a couple of quick pints at the pub before Chinatown murder tour. Ah, the bliss of getting out of the house and doing grown up things occasionally.

Ordinarily I would give approximately zero fucks about American politics. So when I say WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK AMERICA!!! You know shit is genuinely concerning. First off tearing up the Panpacific trade agreement throws the whole Asia pacific region into financial turmoil. Australia is part of that region and were already in recession BEFORE Trump ripeed up that little bit of paper. Secondly actually plainly stating you're approving CIA torture blacksites to be established globally? So I guess the US is backing out of the Geneva Convention now? Redirecting infrastructure funds for a giant ineffective wall? Brilliant idea. It's like Trump just thinks 'Hmmm how can I possibly cause World War III in the first month of my presideny?" What's worse our Prime Minister, the idiot, pretty much said "when Trump says jump we'll still ask how high sir?".

Well here's a start...

Grab yourself two identical bottles of soft-drink from the cupboard (longnecks will work if you don't have soft-drink), two identical thermometers, and one or two hotter-than-room-temperature heat sources (lamp, laser, heater, microwave, whatever you feel like), and you can prove the link between increased atmospheric CO2 and increase in temperature in a fun-for-all-ages household experiment.

1. Stir/pour in and out/shake up one of the bottles to make it flat

2. Put the thermometers in both bottles, they need to fit in there with the lid closed

3. Place them at equal distances and on the same angle from the heat source

4. Observe

The bottle not flat (the one with more CO2 in it's "atmosphere")  should eventually become hotter than the other bottle, more or less proving that with increased atmospheric CO2 there is an increased greenhouse effect. The rest is sorta common sense, more fossil fuel being burned means more atmospheric CO2, more trees being cut down means less CO2 being absorbed In their mass.

Alternatively type something like global warming proof into Scopus and read a few of the articles you find.

...FUN!!

I gave my daughters strict instructions to keep the tomb doors closed in the crypt when they're invoking demons infernal because we all know that methane from the fresh corpses contributes to global warming.

They're very conscientious infanta vampiria.

Ride their bicycles everywhere, carbon scrubbers on the charnel house chimneys, ethically sourced victims? That kind of thing? You're doing well by them.

Well, I'm going to go figure out the city bus system, head to a doctor, and see how this health insurance thing works out. The cold I've been fighting off has turned into a full-blown sinus infection, been having trouble sleeping. My face feels like it's ready to explode. I hate taking antibiotics, but they might be warranted.

Sounds nasty... good luck with that.. even if you really need to be sparing with the antibiotics, sounds like a situation that definitely calls for them.

I´ve been wondering all day why i don´t learn to hit the star when going through unread posts.. ugh. Always hit the topic then it takes me to first post instead of first unread.

So question guys: anyone been to LA? 'Cause I have to plan activities for six days (the six not already accounted for by getting off/on a plane or watching people ride in 250m circles). Some first hand feedback from people who've done touristy stuff would be great.

    • Whichever tier of thrash metal you consigned Sacred Reich back in the 80's/90's they still had their moments.  "Ignorance" & "Surf Nicaragura" did a great job of establishing the band, whereas "The American Way" just got a little to comfortable and accessible (the title track grates nowadays) for my ears.  A couple more records better left forgotten about and then nothing for twenty three years.  2019 alone has now seen three releases from Phil Rind and co.  A live EP, a split EP with Iron Reagan and now a full length.

Notable addition to the ranks for the current throng of releases is former Machine Head sticksman, Dave McClean.  Love or hate Machine Head, McClean is a more than capable drummer and his presence here is felt from the off with the opening and title track kicking things off with some real gusto.  'Divide & Conquer' and 'Salvation' muddle along nicely, never quite reaching any quality that would make my balls tingle but comfortable enough.  The looming build to 'Manifest Reality' delivers a real punch when the song starts proper.  Frenzied riffs and drums with shots of lead work to hold the interest.

There's a problem already though (I know, I am such a fucking mood hoover).  I don't like Phil's vocals.  I never had if I am being honest.  The aggression to them seems a little forced even when they are at their best on tracks like 'Manifest Reality'.  When he tries to sing it just feels weak though ('Salvation') and tracks lose real punch.  Give him a riffy number such as 'Killing Machine' and he is fine with the Reich engine (probably a poor choice of phrase) up in sixth gear.  For every thrashy riff there's a fair share of rock edged, local bar act rhythm aplenty too.

Let's not poo-poo proceedings though, because overall I actually enjoy "Awakening".  It is stacked full of catchy riffs that are sticky on the old ears.  Whilst not as raw as perhaps the - brilliant - artwork suggests with its black and white, tattoo flash sheet style design it is enjoyable enough.  Yes, 'Death Valley' & 'Something to Believe' have no place here, saved only by Arnett and Radziwill's lead work but 'Revolution' is a fucking 80's thrash heyday throwback to the extent that if you turn the TV on during it you might catch a new episode of Cheers!

    • Full length number 19 from overkill certainly makes a splash in the energy stakes, I mean there's some modern thrash bands that are a good two decades younger than Overkill who can only hope to achieve the levels of spunk that New Jersey's finest produce here.  That in itself is an achievement, for a band of Overkill's stature and reputation to be able to still sound relevant four decades into their career is no mean feat.  Even in the albums weaker moments it never gets redundant and the energy levels remain high.  There's a real sense of a band in a state of some renewed vigour, helped in no small part by the addition of Jason Bittner on drums.  The former Flotsam & Jetsam skinsman is nothing short of superb throughout "The Wings of War" and seems to have squeezed a little extra out of the rest of his peers.

The album kicks of with a great build to opening track "Last Man Standing" and for the first 4 tracks of the album the Overkill crew stomp, bash and groove their way to a solid level of consistency.  The lead work is of particular note and Blitz sounds as sneery and scathing as ever.  The album is well produced and mixed too with all parts of the thrash machine audible as the five piece hammer away at your skull with the usual blend of chugging riffs and infectious anthems.

There are weak moments as mentioned but they are more a victim of how good the strong tracks are.  In it's own right "Distortion" is a solid enough - if not slightly varied a journey from the last offering - but it just doesn't stand up well against a "Bat Shit Crazy" or a "Head of a Pin".  As the album draws to a close you get the increasing impression that the last few tracks are rescued really by some great solos and stomping skin work which is a shame because trimming of a couple of tracks may have made this less obvious.
