House move confirmed for 02nd March.  Big relief to get sorted given our short notice period but now the stress of packing and a million lists being drawn up is to come of course.

P.s. got my own cave as mentioned above in my previous post.

Best of luck with everything, and I hope you're happy in your new home. Staying in the same area?

Thanks.  Literally 15 mins up the road, not as rural but surprisingly quiet for an estate type set up, plus really good for motorway and train access.  Hoping it turns out to be a proper long term thing for us this time.

Good work, Maca. Moving graveyard plots is always a difficult thing. Mud and dirt everywhere, like.

Got in with a nice tidy mausoleum on a hilltop plot, and thought that would be the end of it, but nooo, the city had to come in with inspectors, and all of a sudden we "can't have human remains on residential property" and they're "going to have to do DNA tests" and I'm "not supposed to leave town in case they have any more questions". Nothing but work, work, work...

I'm personally not a fan of long unplanned walks in any weather, so you've got my empathy.

If you get one of those, I'm coming over!

My lair at the moment (which I hardly ever visit) is a spare bedroom that will one day be occupied by one of my daughters when they're old enough to move upstairs by themselves. That frees up two bedrooms downstairs but we're turning one into a library and the other into an office/study.

I'm enthusiastic about the library because we've got books all over the damn place and I want a really nice sitting room free of technology with antique furniture where you can withdraw from the modern world and find wall to wall books, and I guess the study is a necessity for business and household matters. Which leaves no black metal room... Maybe the study can double up. I think that will have to be the answer.

My ambition one day is to have a full room, perhaps in a basement or outbuilding that I can turn into a full on Requiem cave of frostbitten doom.

I usually am a fan of long walks, planned or not, but in this case the entire family has been struggling through a nasty cold for over a week, and the rain was blowing in sideways off the Boston harbor. Turned into too much of an adventure.

I've always had a space to make music and art, even if that space doubles as my bedroom. It's a basic requirement for me if I'm going to function as a human being. The newest studio room is far from ideal, but I have a little couch in front of my stereo, and some cool colored light bulbs.

It's Requiem's entire family. I had a heck of a time explaining everything to the detective. "Those are very, very old bloodstains... No, he's not in right now... That's not even widdershins, you'll never find anything walking that direction... If you'd just come back at the stroke of midnight..." Muddy footprints and crime scene tape everywhere. :D

lol.

The remains of the Requiem dynasty can be found in the grounds of Castle Requiem. The entrance can only be detected by sinners who can speak the ritual stanzas by the light of the first full moon of the month. My daughters play there with their pet bats and spiders, scribing unholy odes in the dust on the coffins of the departed.

My Septicflesh engagement has begun in earnest. I've just purchased:

'Mystic Places of Dawn'

'Esoptron'

'Titan'

The former two are actually the re-releases which initially I wasn't thinking of getting, preferring to have the originals, but the artwork is simply amazing and ties all the albums in nicely together, so I'm going for the whole set in uniform presentation. Regarding 'Titan', I'm ashamed to admit that I hadn't purchased it before, merely listening on youtube. These three meisterwerks will be added to 'Communion' and 'The Great Mass' which I do own on c.d.

After the 12th of next month I shall purchase the remaining Septicflesh albums to complete the collection.

It's on. Let's do this.

I've got a downstairs cave - big couch, big TV, CDs, vinyl, DVD collection, small Star Wars pinball machine, Arcade Game machine (2 players, 64 games), shower, toilet and Double fridge. And a rocking chair.

Fair set up. Oh and a secret door inside one of the mirrored robes that leads to storage under the house. Can hide anything in there and no one would ever find it....

Actually we have 2 'secret doors' inside robes and shelves which open into other rooms. We discovered them after we moved in - pushed a wall at the back of a walk in robe once and it fricken opened into a whole new world!!! I'm gonna post pics of these tomorrow - super cool even if I say so myself.....

That's so cool. Any history of bootlegging down there? My first apartment was in a building with a secret door and room - not in my place, unfortunately. The upstairs neighbor had converted it to grow pot.

Speaking of suspicious behaviour, this evening I'm going on a Murder Tour of Chinatown here in Melbourne. I'm something of a history enthusiast and there is some fascinating nineteenth century history in this city, and more than its share of Poe-esque adventures in the burgeoning gold enriched Dickensian metropolis of the 1800s.

Tonight we explore the nefarious goings-on of a hidden world enshrouded in mystery and tales of opium, betrayal and death.

I´m so bored... waiting for a hockey match again.. spent several hours doing songwriting and recording, posted something for a collaboration to Kompoz and hoping for vocals and drums at least. Kind of a simple song with "boring" chord progressions, but hoping that a singer will spice it up.. if not.. not bothered tbh. Not a song that i´m exactly too serious about. Was quick and fun to do. :D

Will, what instruments do you play?

That sounds like proper fun! Actually something i might spend some time looking into, Australian history in general. It´s something i know the basics but the location alone must mean that theres a lot of stuff to learn about.

    • Whichever tier of thrash metal you consigned Sacred Reich back in the 80's/90's they still had their moments.  "Ignorance" & "Surf Nicaragura" did a great job of establishing the band, whereas "The American Way" just got a little to comfortable and accessible (the title track grates nowadays) for my ears.  A couple more records better left forgotten about and then nothing for twenty three years.  2019 alone has now seen three releases from Phil Rind and co.  A live EP, a split EP with Iron Reagan and now a full length.

Notable addition to the ranks for the current throng of releases is former Machine Head sticksman, Dave McClean.  Love or hate Machine Head, McClean is a more than capable drummer and his presence here is felt from the off with the opening and title track kicking things off with some real gusto.  'Divide & Conquer' and 'Salvation' muddle along nicely, never quite reaching any quality that would make my balls tingle but comfortable enough.  The looming build to 'Manifest Reality' delivers a real punch when the song starts proper.  Frenzied riffs and drums with shots of lead work to hold the interest.

There's a problem already though (I know, I am such a fucking mood hoover).  I don't like Phil's vocals.  I never had if I am being honest.  The aggression to them seems a little forced even when they are at their best on tracks like 'Manifest Reality'.  When he tries to sing it just feels weak though ('Salvation') and tracks lose real punch.  Give him a riffy number such as 'Killing Machine' and he is fine with the Reich engine (probably a poor choice of phrase) up in sixth gear.  For every thrashy riff there's a fair share of rock edged, local bar act rhythm aplenty too.

Let's not poo-poo proceedings though, because overall I actually enjoy "Awakening".  It is stacked full of catchy riffs that are sticky on the old ears.  Whilst not as raw as perhaps the - brilliant - artwork suggests with its black and white, tattoo flash sheet style design it is enjoyable enough.  Yes, 'Death Valley' & 'Something to Believe' have no place here, saved only by Arnett and Radziwill's lead work but 'Revolution' is a fucking 80's thrash heyday throwback to the extent that if you turn the TV on during it you might catch a new episode of Cheers!

    • Full length number 19 from overkill certainly makes a splash in the energy stakes, I mean there's some modern thrash bands that are a good two decades younger than Overkill who can only hope to achieve the levels of spunk that New Jersey's finest produce here.  That in itself is an achievement, for a band of Overkill's stature and reputation to be able to still sound relevant four decades into their career is no mean feat.  Even in the albums weaker moments it never gets redundant and the energy levels remain high.  There's a real sense of a band in a state of some renewed vigour, helped in no small part by the addition of Jason Bittner on drums.  The former Flotsam & Jetsam skinsman is nothing short of superb throughout "The Wings of War" and seems to have squeezed a little extra out of the rest of his peers.

The album kicks of with a great build to opening track "Last Man Standing" and for the first 4 tracks of the album the Overkill crew stomp, bash and groove their way to a solid level of consistency.  The lead work is of particular note and Blitz sounds as sneery and scathing as ever.  The album is well produced and mixed too with all parts of the thrash machine audible as the five piece hammer away at your skull with the usual blend of chugging riffs and infectious anthems.

There are weak moments as mentioned but they are more a victim of how good the strong tracks are.  In it's own right "Distortion" is a solid enough - if not slightly varied a journey from the last offering - but it just doesn't stand up well against a "Bat Shit Crazy" or a "Head of a Pin".  As the album draws to a close you get the increasing impression that the last few tracks are rescued really by some great solos and stomping skin work which is a shame because trimming of a couple of tracks may have made this less obvious.
