What's on your mind?

I've never had any desire to compete. It wasn't even about fun; cycling was my primary means of transportation for years. I'm a utilitarian at heart. :D Ironically, by the time I had finished paying for my good bike, I'd started staying home with my son and had no real need for it. I want to ride regularly to keep in shape for whenever I start needing to get around the city quickly again. Honestly it's not even the best bike for city riding; the gearing and body position make it better for long distances.
For me cycling is firstly a lot of fun, second the easiest way for me to stay in shape, and thirdly a sport I enjoy enough to actually put in the hard yards and see what happens. I imagine if I could see it would also be my primary means of transportation.

Doesn't sound too good mate ;)
Well at the time I was pretty mad with the team. I still am actually their performance against Brisbane was absolutely pathetic. I can handle losing but when they literally don't try at any point and take no pride in donning a jumper with 145 years of traditions and heritage? The last time we played like that Matthew Primus was sacked and our club president forced to resign in shame. I dread the game against Richmond on Sunday Kane Cornes plays his 300th and last game which SHOULD inspire the lads to put in a strong performance, that's what happens when honouring a legend of your club, but what probably WILL happen is 21 players who don't give a fuck about their club will take to the field and put in a performance which humiliates Kane.

First day at the smartness-required job! Apparently I'm doing Scandinavia, so I spent 6.5 hours researching religious freedom in Denmark. I didn't eat or listen to music all day, but I wouldn't say it was stressful. My supervisor seems to think I'm on the right track.

They were the highest ranked team for time in forward half, now they have dropped down to around 12th. You still have robbie gray playing great games week after week, and it sucks that you are losing cornes. I hope you play better this weekend.

Abject CDs are here! I'm so fucking psyched. I put up pics in my band thread: http://metalforum.com/promote-your-band/4315-black-harvest-5.html I'm really happy with how they came out. I can't thank my wife enough for her help in getting the project complete. Anyone who's interested, send me a PM, or email me if my box is full. Any newer forum members who are interested in somewhat melodic/somewhat dissonant death metal, check the new album out at our bandcamp page: Black Harvest.

Second day at the RFP and my supervisor somewhat jokingly dubbed me the unofficial Berkley Center expert on religious freedom and regulations in Denmark and Sweden. :D He seems to be even more pleased with my work today, so that's a good sign - especially considering that today felt a little less productive. Things seem to be going all right, and here's my weekend.

If that's what passes for humour mate my advice would be run' date=' run away, run fast.[/quote'] Well, I'm hoping it didn't, because that would mean that I am actually the Center's unofficial expert...but, you know, I don't want to get my hopes up.

Small rant Ahem: So it has been about 7 months since Kevin and I have split, but we have not stopped being friends and obviously have not stopped living with each other (since cheaper for both of us of course). So last night I assumed he wanted to hang out with me for once, go to this burger joint here that is owned by Chef Michael Symon....low and behold, he does not want to go. I am starting to feel like Rachel on friends when it comes to eating out at places. haha. I just wonder always like "Wow, so all of those times we were dating he actually didnt want to ever do anything." Sweet.

Yeh' date=' I always seem to get on better with guys, I have a few close male friends that I have known for years but ex boyfriend couldn't handle it though, I hate possessiveness and jealousy.[/quote'] Yeah honestly this day and age men and women can be equally jealous and possessive it seems, I have even been to some extent in the past, even when I didnt have a clue of why. haha. Also I understand the being better friend with men, but my reasons are highly because of music tastes, women of my age in my area just sadly are not into metal, so so sad.

On the other hand a little bit of jealousy in a relationship isn't necessarily a bad thing is it? I mean yeah possessive, excessive, jealousy is obviously a bad thing but personally if some other guy started flirting with my girlfriend I wouldn't be super impressed. I suppose at the end of the day relationships are built on trust and honesty. If one partner doesn't trust the other completely it's not going to work.

So the original physio wrongly diagnosed my injury. It is not a glute strain but rather a hamstring tendon injury. Fortunately it has slowly healed on its own so now it's just tightness not a serious injury. To fast track my recovery I have a few stretches to do three times a day and, similarly, I should apply heat gel thrice daily. In other good news I can get back on the trainer but no strenous effort, cadence work only operating between 90-100rpm.

I ate some Brussels sprouts yesterday and 30 minutes later i was wrecked. Had to call in sick to work, might have to do so today as well. I only suspect the Brussels sprouts due to the time frame and that they were the only abnormal thing I ate yesterday. It felt like I had stomach flu but I still managed to eat small amounts of solid food. It totally sucked and I wish a good night's rest would have helped but I still feel icky...

Awesome that you can get back up on the bike, at least. Edit - that was at Relentless. Food poisoning sucks. Boo. I just posted a YouTube link to the oldest Black Harvest material in my band thread. Raw recording, the old Katatonia and 90s melodic death/BM influences worn on our sleeves. Hiding in those poorly structured songs, some real passion and even a couple of good ideas. Hope some of you dig it.

    • Whichever tier of thrash metal you consigned Sacred Reich back in the 80's/90's they still had their moments.  "Ignorance" & "Surf Nicaragura" did a great job of establishing the band, whereas "The American Way" just got a little to comfortable and accessible (the title track grates nowadays) for my ears.  A couple more records better left forgotten about and then nothing for twenty three years.  2019 alone has now seen three releases from Phil Rind and co.  A live EP, a split EP with Iron Reagan and now a full length.

Notable addition to the ranks for the current throng of releases is former Machine Head sticksman, Dave McClean.  Love or hate Machine Head, McClean is a more than capable drummer and his presence here is felt from the off with the opening and title track kicking things off with some real gusto.  'Divide & Conquer' and 'Salvation' muddle along nicely, never quite reaching any quality that would make my balls tingle but comfortable enough.  The looming build to 'Manifest Reality' delivers a real punch when the song starts proper.  Frenzied riffs and drums with shots of lead work to hold the interest.

There's a problem already though (I know, I am such a fucking mood hoover).  I don't like Phil's vocals.  I never had if I am being honest.  The aggression to them seems a little forced even when they are at their best on tracks like 'Manifest Reality'.  When he tries to sing it just feels weak though ('Salvation') and tracks lose real punch.  Give him a riffy number such as 'Killing Machine' and he is fine with the Reich engine (probably a poor choice of phrase) up in sixth gear.  For every thrashy riff there's a fair share of rock edged, local bar act rhythm aplenty too.

Let's not poo-poo proceedings though, because overall I actually enjoy "Awakening".  It is stacked full of catchy riffs that are sticky on the old ears.  Whilst not as raw as perhaps the - brilliant - artwork suggests with its black and white, tattoo flash sheet style design it is enjoyable enough.  Yes, 'Death Valley' & 'Something to Believe' have no place here, saved only by Arnett and Radziwill's lead work but 'Revolution' is a fucking 80's thrash heyday throwback to the extent that if you turn the TV on during it you might catch a new episode of Cheers!

    • Full length number 19 from overkill certainly makes a splash in the energy stakes, I mean there's some modern thrash bands that are a good two decades younger than Overkill who can only hope to achieve the levels of spunk that New Jersey's finest produce here.  That in itself is an achievement, for a band of Overkill's stature and reputation to be able to still sound relevant four decades into their career is no mean feat.  Even in the albums weaker moments it never gets redundant and the energy levels remain high.  There's a real sense of a band in a state of some renewed vigour, helped in no small part by the addition of Jason Bittner on drums.  The former Flotsam & Jetsam skinsman is nothing short of superb throughout "The Wings of War" and seems to have squeezed a little extra out of the rest of his peers.

The album kicks of with a great build to opening track "Last Man Standing" and for the first 4 tracks of the album the Overkill crew stomp, bash and groove their way to a solid level of consistency.  The lead work is of particular note and Blitz sounds as sneery and scathing as ever.  The album is well produced and mixed too with all parts of the thrash machine audible as the five piece hammer away at your skull with the usual blend of chugging riffs and infectious anthems.

There are weak moments as mentioned but they are more a victim of how good the strong tracks are.  In it's own right "Distortion" is a solid enough - if not slightly varied a journey from the last offering - but it just doesn't stand up well against a "Bat Shit Crazy" or a "Head of a Pin".  As the album draws to a close you get the increasing impression that the last few tracks are rescued really by some great solos and stomping skin work which is a shame because trimming of a couple of tracks may have made this less obvious.
