This is my Miss Luna :) She has just turned 19, but is a few years younger on this adorable "sleeping baby" picture. But even if I had a camera, I would not take a pic of her now as she is undergoing an anti-matted treatment and is covered in a mix of butter and pigs fat...so she does not look her best! But do not be fool by her innocent face! I remember once when I still had a "real" hi-fi system the little buggar liked to turn on the volume button...now imagine putting on an Immortal CD, expecting it to be on mid low volume...just to almost be blasted out of the window the next moment, while your cat just sits and looks all cool *lol* Still after 19 years of almost-heart attacks as the above and things like that...we are both still going strong :)

We're very sad that we had to say goodbye to one of our cats today. She had breast cancer that had spread to her lungs. She'd had a hard time breathing lately, and this afternoon she was in obvious pain. She passed away while we were trying to find a veterinarian that could have at least helped ease her suffering. The last few weeks have been hard for her, and I'm glad she's not in pain anymore. She was one of the sweetest cats I've ever known. We're really going to miss you, Lily. :(

I'm not a cat person, but I feel for you. It's hard to see animals suffer, and as much as it pains us to be without them, at least their pain has ended. Death comes for all of us, but that doesn't make it any easier.

Thank you. We found a lump last year and ended up having to get surgery for her, so we knew this was coming, but you're right, that doesn't make it easier when it actually happens. I'm glad it's over for her, there was no way out, I just wish she hadn't been in such pain.

Thanks man. Her absence is definitely a hole in our lives right now.

Sorry to hear it. I know how you feel, man. My cat died 2 years ago of old age (she was 16). She got to the point where she was just skin and bone and one day she was so weak that she couldn't hardly walk, so I called the vet to have her put down. Anyway, she had already started her period of self-neglect before the vet could see her and died. I had her since I was 12 and she was a kitten. It's odd to think about how you can have all these memories and times in your life associated with a pet, especially an older animal that's been a constant in your life for a while and sort of becomes part of the family. I made a gravestone for my cat out of a big sandstone block and used an old engraver to carve her name and birth/death dates into it. Buried her over at my grandma's place wrapped up in one of my worn-out work jackets that I let her sleep on. It helped me deal with it at the time, so that it didn't feel like she was just "gone." She was a good cat worth remembering and I'm sure yours was too.

So very sorry for your loss.  I dread this day coming with either of mine but all we can do is give them the best life possible.  Take heart from knowing you did your absolute best for her and she had a great life thanks to you guys.

I'm sorry for your loss, FatherAlabaster. Losing a beloved pet is always a terrible thing. When our first family dog died four years ago I was crushed. I hadn't seen him for over three months and he died one day before I was visiting my parents again due to a tumor that went undetected.

But you can at least bear her in good remembrance, knowing that she had the best life she could possibly have with you and your family.

What a great pic and a great memory you've got there. There are few things that give a cat more pleasure than a little head rub. I'm feeling for you buddy. We had to put our little "Rambo" down 6 years back and we still think/talk about him all the time. And look back at his photos. It's so hard and it feels like losing your best friend☹️. Sorry again. She had a great happy life with you though.

We will have a new feline addition to the house from Saturday in the form of a kitten a friend of my gf found abandoned and starving in a yard near her house.  He's picked up brilliantly since she took him to the vets and is ready for a new start in life which we are more than happy to offer him.  Have the headache of integrating with two well established cats but we will do all we can to make it work for all three of them.

Pic to follow.

Our little rescue is still the "new girl" nine years after we found her at the door. Cats are like high school students.

    • Whichever tier of thrash metal you consigned Sacred Reich back in the 80's/90's they still had their moments.  "Ignorance" & "Surf Nicaragura" did a great job of establishing the band, whereas "The American Way" just got a little to comfortable and accessible (the title track grates nowadays) for my ears.  A couple more records better left forgotten about and then nothing for twenty three years.  2019 alone has now seen three releases from Phil Rind and co.  A live EP, a split EP with Iron Reagan and now a full length.

Notable addition to the ranks for the current throng of releases is former Machine Head sticksman, Dave McClean.  Love or hate Machine Head, McClean is a more than capable drummer and his presence here is felt from the off with the opening and title track kicking things off with some real gusto.  'Divide & Conquer' and 'Salvation' muddle along nicely, never quite reaching any quality that would make my balls tingle but comfortable enough.  The looming build to 'Manifest Reality' delivers a real punch when the song starts proper.  Frenzied riffs and drums with shots of lead work to hold the interest.

There's a problem already though (I know, I am such a fucking mood hoover).  I don't like Phil's vocals.  I never had if I am being honest.  The aggression to them seems a little forced even when they are at their best on tracks like 'Manifest Reality'.  When he tries to sing it just feels weak though ('Salvation') and tracks lose real punch.  Give him a riffy number such as 'Killing Machine' and he is fine with the Reich engine (probably a poor choice of phrase) up in sixth gear.  For every thrashy riff there's a fair share of rock edged, local bar act rhythm aplenty too.

Let's not poo-poo proceedings though, because overall I actually enjoy "Awakening".  It is stacked full of catchy riffs that are sticky on the old ears.  Whilst not as raw as perhaps the - brilliant - artwork suggests with its black and white, tattoo flash sheet style design it is enjoyable enough.  Yes, 'Death Valley' & 'Something to Believe' have no place here, saved only by Arnett and Radziwill's lead work but 'Revolution' is a fucking 80's thrash heyday throwback to the extent that if you turn the TV on during it you might catch a new episode of Cheers!

    • Full length number 19 from overkill certainly makes a splash in the energy stakes, I mean there's some modern thrash bands that are a good two decades younger than Overkill who can only hope to achieve the levels of spunk that New Jersey's finest produce here.  That in itself is an achievement, for a band of Overkill's stature and reputation to be able to still sound relevant four decades into their career is no mean feat.  Even in the albums weaker moments it never gets redundant and the energy levels remain high.  There's a real sense of a band in a state of some renewed vigour, helped in no small part by the addition of Jason Bittner on drums.  The former Flotsam & Jetsam skinsman is nothing short of superb throughout "The Wings of War" and seems to have squeezed a little extra out of the rest of his peers.

The album kicks of with a great build to opening track "Last Man Standing" and for the first 4 tracks of the album the Overkill crew stomp, bash and groove their way to a solid level of consistency.  The lead work is of particular note and Blitz sounds as sneery and scathing as ever.  The album is well produced and mixed too with all parts of the thrash machine audible as the five piece hammer away at your skull with the usual blend of chugging riffs and infectious anthems.

There are weak moments as mentioned but they are more a victim of how good the strong tracks are.  In it's own right "Distortion" is a solid enough - if not slightly varied a journey from the last offering - but it just doesn't stand up well against a "Bat Shit Crazy" or a "Head of a Pin".  As the album draws to a close you get the increasing impression that the last few tracks are rescued really by some great solos and stomping skin work which is a shame because trimming of a couple of tracks may have made this less obvious.
