especially with uni starting up again it'll be real easy to avoid playing video games, I just have too much to do, and my spare time (after subtracting uni commitments, cycling commitments, guitar practice and lessons, cleaning and so on) is very limited and I'd rather spend it watching my sporting heroes take the field then get cranky because some random with a stupid gamertag keeps kicking my ass at Halo

now I just need to find Halo 3' date=' fucking hate Reach and I've hardly played Halo 4[/quote'] I didn't care much for Halo 4 but I kicked some serious ass the last time we played it. Reach is alright but 3 is much better. Halo 2 was the best game of the series however.

Firefight in ODST is a blast and half. That made the game worth it. The firefight in Reach's only redeeming feature is you can make yourself invincible and that's always fun for when you're board. I really miss the Halo parties we had before Halo 3 came out. Long nights, junk food and lots of fun.

I rocked with the tank and over all did better on that game than I have on the other games, but you mopped the floor with no one. Then again over all you did good but such is your nature. You have that creepy way of getting from beginner to expert in about 2 levels though.

I would call that mopping the floor with you guys. :D Sent from my HTC PH39100 using Tapatalk 2

My brother has such an ability... The thing I don't like about the Halo games is that it seems to me anyone who gets the energy sword dominates the given match. When a bunch of people with guns are being beaten by guys with swords I have to check the game cover to make sure I'm not playing a Star Wars game. For that matter, a swift club from a rifle's stock is more effective than about ten shots from the rifle itself, which also seems rather remiss.

I used to be really dominant at Halo, now I have moments of pure brilliance but in general I'm not that great, last time I played Halo 3 the moments of brilliance were: ricocheting a sniper bullet 'round a corner for the double kill headshot on The Pit and a blind cross map stick on Last Resort

nah I generally don't have tha patience for those sorts of games, only game I play that may be considered a strategy game is Pandemic 2 (a flash game in which the objective is to craft a disease which will wipe out Earth's population, and one seriously addictive game too) I'm more the FPS/TPS type with the odd fighter, racing game or RPG thrown in, plus survival/horror games like Left 4 Dead pretty sure Assassins Creed counts as RPG right? 'cause I have no idea where else those gems fit

also cortana looks Hawt
She's perhaps the funniest example of totally needless sexualization in videogames. Is there any reason whatsoever that Cortana has to be attractive...or why she needs to be an anthropomorphized computer program in the first place?

  • 3 weeks later...

I'm a bit late to the party here but... Number one game that I play (and have been playing since it was released) is Battlefield 3. Love it. After that there are a bunch of games that I play (when I have time which isn't very often). The Bioshock series is brilliant, Far Cry 3, Red Dead Redemption, Fallout 3, MLB 11 The Show, NHL 2010... I have a bunch of other games as well but I just don't have the time to play them... Heavy Rain was a brilliant game though. Only finished it to one ending though. Only 21 more to go!!

I'm greatly late to the party. I used to be a huge gamer, until, well, I got a girlfriend. I'm not trying to sound like an asshole, that's just the honest truth. I still competitively play CS:GO and CS:S from time to time, CS:GO a lot lately, usually 1-3 matches a day. Always top of the scoreboard, always giving orders. Being a leader has its privileges, except when my orders fail ten rounds in a row and I'm begging for someone else to take the leader role. Other than Counter-Strike, I play some Garry's Mod every now and again, maybe some Diablo 3. Or if one of my friends wants to play something with me and I have the game, I'll usually play with them. If anyone on this forum wants to add me on Steam or whatever, just send me a message and I'd be far more than glad to play with one of you.

Spent a little time yesterday playing U Draw on the X Box. Yes, it's a drawing game. You draw on a tablet-like pad. It's fun to have something relaxing once in a while. :) Also played quite a bit of Crusader Kings II on the PC. Intrigue, maps, history - I like it. Never seem to win, but it's worth it.

    • Whichever tier of thrash metal you consigned Sacred Reich back in the 80's/90's they still had their moments.  "Ignorance" & "Surf Nicaragura" did a great job of establishing the band, whereas "The American Way" just got a little to comfortable and accessible (the title track grates nowadays) for my ears.  A couple more records better left forgotten about and then nothing for twenty three years.  2019 alone has now seen three releases from Phil Rind and co.  A live EP, a split EP with Iron Reagan and now a full length.

Notable addition to the ranks for the current throng of releases is former Machine Head sticksman, Dave McClean.  Love or hate Machine Head, McClean is a more than capable drummer and his presence here is felt from the off with the opening and title track kicking things off with some real gusto.  'Divide & Conquer' and 'Salvation' muddle along nicely, never quite reaching any quality that would make my balls tingle but comfortable enough.  The looming build to 'Manifest Reality' delivers a real punch when the song starts proper.  Frenzied riffs and drums with shots of lead work to hold the interest.

There's a problem already though (I know, I am such a fucking mood hoover).  I don't like Phil's vocals.  I never had if I am being honest.  The aggression to them seems a little forced even when they are at their best on tracks like 'Manifest Reality'.  When he tries to sing it just feels weak though ('Salvation') and tracks lose real punch.  Give him a riffy number such as 'Killing Machine' and he is fine with the Reich engine (probably a poor choice of phrase) up in sixth gear.  For every thrashy riff there's a fair share of rock edged, local bar act rhythm aplenty too.

Let's not poo-poo proceedings though, because overall I actually enjoy "Awakening".  It is stacked full of catchy riffs that are sticky on the old ears.  Whilst not as raw as perhaps the - brilliant - artwork suggests with its black and white, tattoo flash sheet style design it is enjoyable enough.  Yes, 'Death Valley' & 'Something to Believe' have no place here, saved only by Arnett and Radziwill's lead work but 'Revolution' is a fucking 80's thrash heyday throwback to the extent that if you turn the TV on during it you might catch a new episode of Cheers!

    • Full length number 19 from overkill certainly makes a splash in the energy stakes, I mean there's some modern thrash bands that are a good two decades younger than Overkill who can only hope to achieve the levels of spunk that New Jersey's finest produce here.  That in itself is an achievement, for a band of Overkill's stature and reputation to be able to still sound relevant four decades into their career is no mean feat.  Even in the albums weaker moments it never gets redundant and the energy levels remain high.  There's a real sense of a band in a state of some renewed vigour, helped in no small part by the addition of Jason Bittner on drums.  The former Flotsam & Jetsam skinsman is nothing short of superb throughout "The Wings of War" and seems to have squeezed a little extra out of the rest of his peers.

The album kicks of with a great build to opening track "Last Man Standing" and for the first 4 tracks of the album the Overkill crew stomp, bash and groove their way to a solid level of consistency.  The lead work is of particular note and Blitz sounds as sneery and scathing as ever.  The album is well produced and mixed too with all parts of the thrash machine audible as the five piece hammer away at your skull with the usual blend of chugging riffs and infectious anthems.

There are weak moments as mentioned but they are more a victim of how good the strong tracks are.  In it's own right "Distortion" is a solid enough - if not slightly varied a journey from the last offering - but it just doesn't stand up well against a "Bat Shit Crazy" or a "Head of a Pin".  As the album draws to a close you get the increasing impression that the last few tracks are rescued really by some great solos and stomping skin work which is a shame because trimming of a couple of tracks may have made this less obvious.
