How was your day?

I don't mind horse meat. We were often joking that in my university the cantine was using the stray dogs in order to make the meatballs. We had a saying "Buy 10 meatballs' date=' win a dog!"[/quote'] Hahahahaha! that's hilarious! we were saying a lot of things like that in my High School, because we have a guy who is obsessed with horses at our school, we get burgers at our school and we say "are you sure these beef burgers are Johnson's finest?" xD it is so funny :)

:D the mysteries a burger can conceal! the thing, Dave, is that there are really high chances that my university's cantine is using meat from surprising sources ! But, it is meat, it is edible. Ok for me, and it costed me 0.75 euros, so for my student years it was ok.

when McDonald's opened here first it wasn't cheap at all :) going there would be like going to a fancy restaurant compared to the other fast foods there were! However years passed and economics changed so now it's pretty cheap here as well. But it still depends what are you getting. However I'm surrounded by places where you can get a better burger for the same price, so MD is very rarely on my menu.

Wow. That sounds awesome, McDonald's is usually a budget buy even in cheaper states. In DC it's a fantastic deal since you have to pay six dollars per individual french fry at essentially any other restaurant. It's funny, I actually like McDonald's better than a lot of other more expensive restaurants, but it's interesting that McDonald's isn't the cheapest alternative where you live.

I don't know why McDonalds gets a lot of stick' date=' I mean, It's always nice food, never been dissapointed/put off by their food (and I have been going since I was half my age at least) I love the chicken Nuggets and the Mozzerella Dippers they do are divine :o[/quote'] People with more cultured culinary tastes are unsatisfied with McDonald's method of making food because they do not use particularly good meat. It's low-quality food. Luckily I am Captain Poo-Muncher concerning food quality and simply eat food that I actually enjoy regardless of its empirical quality.

You've just earned yourself a new online handle. And yes, I don't like it because the quality simply isn't there. Their breakfast is head and shoulders above the rest of their food, as with most fast food places, as it's quite difficult to fuck up things like eggs and sausage, and the ingredients are already more cheap relatively than beef. In either case, McDonald's is close to the bottom of the barrel for fast food, I prefer most any place to them (except Arctic Circle), but I would prefer not to eat fast food at all. Sometimes it's necessary, but I've found that street food can be even cheaper and of much higher quality and taste. If taco carts were everywhere, I would never go through another drive thru again.

My day was a mixed bag by all accounts. I had a meeting all morning as a major new project starts tomorrow at work, then I had somebody crying on the phone at me about how unfair my department had been with them. I then had a go at the builder for not turning up at the house last Friday to do some jobs. Finally I narrowly avoided being blown up by the girlfriend after she left the gas ring on whilst I was in the shower.

Yesterday was a pretty good day. I spent it with my daughter, got some CD's and even recorded a rough demo of a bunch of riffs I'm calling a song. :D

I started reading part of a review for the latest Megadeth album and stopped less than half way through. It was basically a troll review. The dude admitted disliking Megadeth since 94, so my question is: "Why even bother writing a review if you're just going to bash the band?" If you've hated the bands work for almost 20 years then why bother listening to what they're current doing? I'll never understand that. That would be like me listening to Queensryche every time they released an album, knowing it was going to suck, and then being shocked by how bad it is. There's no logic to it what-so-ever. I'm all for voicing opinions but this was just dumb. Also I just learned that people make aluminum electric guitars. My coworker said they were expensive as hell but would sustain for days. Also very light weight.

good, good. I slept a lot, I woke up, I did some sports to discover that I'm in a terrible shape :) I went back home, I cleaned, I watched some of "The walking dead" with my sis so I gave her some massive spoilers, I went out, had a pepperoni pizza&beer, I had a walk after it...:)

Pizza and beer is a good combination. My day actually just started but I am doing fine. Thus far I've been reading this forum and practicing on my guitar. I don't think this day will be much more than that because it is a lazy sunday for me.
Yay! Lazy sundays! I used to have to go to church, but not anymore :D so instead I go out with mates or just come on here, most of the time though, it's both xD

Hayfever has left me alone today, have had a great lie in bed till nearly 11am, been banging out Blind Guardian since I got up and have very little of anything to do today. Yesterday we got the garden done and today all manner of wildlife is visiting the garden picking worms and grubs disturbed by us yesterday. Also the local stray cat was sat on our garden table this morning chatting at us through the window.

I normally start suffering as soon as May comes around but it's been late arriving this year. Picked up my Beconase spray earlier so should be okay now. It left me really tired yesterday and sluggish but I had taken some cheap brand tablets which I think made me drowsy. The girlfriend has it too so we are both fucking useless throughout the summer if we don't take our medication.

It's horrible, I was rubbing my eyes nearly out of their sockets yesterday, when I looked in the mirror my eyes were red! haha xD

    • Whichever tier of thrash metal you consigned Sacred Reich back in the 80's/90's they still had their moments.  "Ignorance" & "Surf Nicaragura" did a great job of establishing the band, whereas "The American Way" just got a little to comfortable and accessible (the title track grates nowadays) for my ears.  A couple more records better left forgotten about and then nothing for twenty three years.  2019 alone has now seen three releases from Phil Rind and co.  A live EP, a split EP with Iron Reagan and now a full length.

Notable addition to the ranks for the current throng of releases is former Machine Head sticksman, Dave McClean.  Love or hate Machine Head, McClean is a more than capable drummer and his presence here is felt from the off with the opening and title track kicking things off with some real gusto.  'Divide & Conquer' and 'Salvation' muddle along nicely, never quite reaching any quality that would make my balls tingle but comfortable enough.  The looming build to 'Manifest Reality' delivers a real punch when the song starts proper.  Frenzied riffs and drums with shots of lead work to hold the interest.

There's a problem already though (I know, I am such a fucking mood hoover).  I don't like Phil's vocals.  I never had if I am being honest.  The aggression to them seems a little forced even when they are at their best on tracks like 'Manifest Reality'.  When he tries to sing it just feels weak though ('Salvation') and tracks lose real punch.  Give him a riffy number such as 'Killing Machine' and he is fine with the Reich engine (probably a poor choice of phrase) up in sixth gear.  For every thrashy riff there's a fair share of rock edged, local bar act rhythm aplenty too.

Let's not poo-poo proceedings though, because overall I actually enjoy "Awakening".  It is stacked full of catchy riffs that are sticky on the old ears.  Whilst not as raw as perhaps the - brilliant - artwork suggests with its black and white, tattoo flash sheet style design it is enjoyable enough.  Yes, 'Death Valley' & 'Something to Believe' have no place here, saved only by Arnett and Radziwill's lead work but 'Revolution' is a fucking 80's thrash heyday throwback to the extent that if you turn the TV on during it you might catch a new episode of Cheers!

    • Full length number 19 from overkill certainly makes a splash in the energy stakes, I mean there's some modern thrash bands that are a good two decades younger than Overkill who can only hope to achieve the levels of spunk that New Jersey's finest produce here.  That in itself is an achievement, for a band of Overkill's stature and reputation to be able to still sound relevant four decades into their career is no mean feat.  Even in the albums weaker moments it never gets redundant and the energy levels remain high.  There's a real sense of a band in a state of some renewed vigour, helped in no small part by the addition of Jason Bittner on drums.  The former Flotsam & Jetsam skinsman is nothing short of superb throughout "The Wings of War" and seems to have squeezed a little extra out of the rest of his peers.

The album kicks of with a great build to opening track "Last Man Standing" and for the first 4 tracks of the album the Overkill crew stomp, bash and groove their way to a solid level of consistency.  The lead work is of particular note and Blitz sounds as sneery and scathing as ever.  The album is well produced and mixed too with all parts of the thrash machine audible as the five piece hammer away at your skull with the usual blend of chugging riffs and infectious anthems.

There are weak moments as mentioned but they are more a victim of how good the strong tracks are.  In it's own right "Distortion" is a solid enough - if not slightly varied a journey from the last offering - but it just doesn't stand up well against a "Bat Shit Crazy" or a "Head of a Pin".  As the album draws to a close you get the increasing impression that the last few tracks are rescued really by some great solos and stomping skin work which is a shame because trimming of a couple of tracks may have made this less obvious.
