My daughter seems to make the same thinking face that I do: And yes, that black hairy mass next to her is Manowar, and she loves her dogs. Sent from my HTC PH39100 using Tapatalk 2
Adorable pensive babyface! I'll have to post some more pics of my boy when I get the chance, he's just getting bigger and bigger... as they do.

Speaking of cats, here is me + cat. We have another one but she hates being held and would probably kill me. aZrz2PF.jpg You can't really tell, but I really need to cut my hair. I wish I could grow it out, but I'd have to start straightening it again because it gets frizzy and waves ridiculously otherwise, and I don't want to do all that damage to it anymore. I'm jealous of your hair, Iceni; why it is so fabulously straight and un-frizzed? ):

That's because cats are not pets, they merely tolerate your existence because you feed them, but when they get annoyed with you they'll claw your ass. Sorry, I'm not much of a cat person, I train dogs and feel that they're far superior, but will admit that they do take more work and don't allow you as much independence. However, they are there for you when you need them, and will do whatever job they're given to the best of their ability, in addition to not stinking up your abode. I have curly hair as well, and it is a bit to maintain when long, but I wouldn't trade it. I advise everyone to keep their hair long, I think it looks better in almost any case, but that's just me. Mine's not curly--just wavy, and it doesn't wave in a pretty way. If it were curly, I'd keep it longer. The cat in the picture is extra sweet, as are most cats I know. She even knows how to play around with hands without using claws. Cats are the best. ): Our other one was rescued as a kitten, though, and never got over being skittish. (We have a dog, too, and she's great; I don't actually mind if you don't like cats, haha.)

You'll have to go ahead not minding that I don't like cats, you may have noticed my Super Moderator title which implicitly states that I can ban you for disagreeing with me. :P All in good fun of course, I'm honestly hoping you do stick around. We get high traffic here, but very few of those become regulars, and it looks like you're a good fit with what we're about here. We like to talk metal AND other non-metal things, no flame wars, plenty of silliness, just good people. I think you are a great addition to that, and I would imagine that the others would agree. Let me know if you have any questions or need anything. Sent from my HTC PH39100 using Tapatalk 2

pls dont ban me i love dogs swear on me mum But really, thanks! I'm definitely intending to stick around. It's been a long time since I had a small forum to be a part of, and it feels great to get back into it. Nothing like talking to people with a mutual interest about things that have nothing to do with that interest. :D

I'm jealous of your hair' date=' Iceni; why it is so fabulously straight and un-frizzed? ):[/quote'] I made a concerted effort to wash my hair very well that day, I went to an Easter lunch which is where that picture was taken. That said, my hair usually is straight because it's saturated with oil. Right now my hair is matted and stringy because DC weather is a muggy bastard to this lovely mantle of mine.

Not necessarily a bad thing--oil keeps the hair healthier. Mine gets that way too, but I've found that since I stopped straightening it, some oiliness can actually make it look better rather than worse. Don't even get me started about humid weather. Houston is the actual worst place. Even Chicago can get bad, since I live right next to the lake. It was worse when I straightened it (everything was worse when I straightened my hair, apparently...), but holy hell do I hate humidity.

I did actually consider whether Houston was worse, since it was my benchmark for humidity but I do actually think DC is worse, the summers are murderous. I cannot go outside for more than three minutes before I start sweating and my hair gets messed up. Seven minutes and I might as well not even have showered. It's the only place I've been where it's ever been hot and raining heavily. Even Alabama isn't that bad. Of course, considering I want to do work regarding Central Africa I've probably seen nothing yet.

I like this one too' date=' "how long you gonna grow it or keep it that way".[/quote'] That one just annoys me, I tend to want to ask 'Well, how long are you going to continue wearing pastel shorts and loafers with no socks, you nosy prick?'

The real question for these people is, "how long are you going to go around worrying about what other people do with their hair when it's clearly none of your fucking business?" One of the nice things about living here is that nobody looks twice, or gives much of a shit what people look like. And there are so many metalheads here that "the look" is nothing exceptional.

This summer is kind of dry, but last summer was actually terrible. Same situation, humid rain all week long. .-.
As a guy, I get that question every day :D Verstuurd vanaf mijn GT-I9505 met Tapatalk
Guys should always have long hair. It's 500% more attractive. (Well, unless you don't know how to pull it off.)

Clearly I should move.

I agree in some cases, but most of the time, guys don't take care of their long hair and it looks like shit. I don't know why it's so difficult for some, but it's worth the time to keep it from looking like a straw broom. Sent from my HTC PH39100 using Tapatalk 2

    • Whichever tier of thrash metal you consigned Sacred Reich back in the 80's/90's they still had their moments.  "Ignorance" & "Surf Nicaragura" did a great job of establishing the band, whereas "The American Way" just got a little to comfortable and accessible (the title track grates nowadays) for my ears.  A couple more records better left forgotten about and then nothing for twenty three years.  2019 alone has now seen three releases from Phil Rind and co.  A live EP, a split EP with Iron Reagan and now a full length.

Notable addition to the ranks for the current throng of releases is former Machine Head sticksman, Dave McClean.  Love or hate Machine Head, McClean is a more than capable drummer and his presence here is felt from the off with the opening and title track kicking things off with some real gusto.  'Divide & Conquer' and 'Salvation' muddle along nicely, never quite reaching any quality that would make my balls tingle but comfortable enough.  The looming build to 'Manifest Reality' delivers a real punch when the song starts proper.  Frenzied riffs and drums with shots of lead work to hold the interest.

There's a problem already though (I know, I am such a fucking mood hoover).  I don't like Phil's vocals.  I never had if I am being honest.  The aggression to them seems a little forced even when they are at their best on tracks like 'Manifest Reality'.  When he tries to sing it just feels weak though ('Salvation') and tracks lose real punch.  Give him a riffy number such as 'Killing Machine' and he is fine with the Reich engine (probably a poor choice of phrase) up in sixth gear.  For every thrashy riff there's a fair share of rock edged, local bar act rhythm aplenty too.

Let's not poo-poo proceedings though, because overall I actually enjoy "Awakening".  It is stacked full of catchy riffs that are sticky on the old ears.  Whilst not as raw as perhaps the - brilliant - artwork suggests with its black and white, tattoo flash sheet style design it is enjoyable enough.  Yes, 'Death Valley' & 'Something to Believe' have no place here, saved only by Arnett and Radziwill's lead work but 'Revolution' is a fucking 80's thrash heyday throwback to the extent that if you turn the TV on during it you might catch a new episode of Cheers!

    • Full length number 19 from overkill certainly makes a splash in the energy stakes, I mean there's some modern thrash bands that are a good two decades younger than Overkill who can only hope to achieve the levels of spunk that New Jersey's finest produce here.  That in itself is an achievement, for a band of Overkill's stature and reputation to be able to still sound relevant four decades into their career is no mean feat.  Even in the albums weaker moments it never gets redundant and the energy levels remain high.  There's a real sense of a band in a state of some renewed vigour, helped in no small part by the addition of Jason Bittner on drums.  The former Flotsam & Jetsam skinsman is nothing short of superb throughout "The Wings of War" and seems to have squeezed a little extra out of the rest of his peers.

The album kicks of with a great build to opening track "Last Man Standing" and for the first 4 tracks of the album the Overkill crew stomp, bash and groove their way to a solid level of consistency.  The lead work is of particular note and Blitz sounds as sneery and scathing as ever.  The album is well produced and mixed too with all parts of the thrash machine audible as the five piece hammer away at your skull with the usual blend of chugging riffs and infectious anthems.

There are weak moments as mentioned but they are more a victim of how good the strong tracks are.  In it's own right "Distortion" is a solid enough - if not slightly varied a journey from the last offering - but it just doesn't stand up well against a "Bat Shit Crazy" or a "Head of a Pin".  As the album draws to a close you get the increasing impression that the last few tracks are rescued really by some great solos and stomping skin work which is a shame because trimming of a couple of tracks may have made this less obvious.
