I found that the main problem with Beyond Meat and similar brands is that they are way too salt. But that goes for most fast food mince meat burgers as well. But the BM taste is great IMO, it's usually my patty of choice when availble. Less risk of food poisining too ;)

I just think it defeats the purpose if you’re trying to simulate meat, but I’m not vegan so really this doesn’t need my two cents haphazardly thrown in

Finding this album to be a good listen so far.

Forbidden Evil was already a great first album, but I am literally in love with this one.

Forbidden - Forbidden Evil (1988)

Flotsam and Jetsam - No Place for Disgrace (1988)

Blimey. It sure is. That is at least 20 kangaroo skins.

£66.60 works out to $124 roo skins to be exact, $89 maple leaves or $84 greenbacks. How did your Aussie money get to be so devalued? Just asking you because you seem to be a pretty smart guy. I reckon our former stock broker Deadly-do-right might have some insight into this subject as well.

Hypocrisy - The Fourth Dimension

Megadeth - The Sick, The Dying...And The Dead!

Every time you post multiple albums on this thread there's usually gonna be at least one I really like and at least one I really hate. This post is no different. So I'll give you horns for Hypocrisy which are not under any circumstances to be shared with DyingDave! 😜

Musically fantastic. Vocally not so fantastic. I think I could have been a big Forbidden fan if only I could have gotten past the vox.

GG you will probably really want to give this one the horns without any Megadave guilt.

G.B.H. - City Baby's Revenge

Drugs Party In 526 is one of the most hypnotic songs ever written.

We had Discharge and The Exploited albums in the house first, I remember we brought them home from the store together on the same day. Didn't really know what to expect as we had only read about them in print. But they were cool we really liked them. But GBH is the band that really got me heavily into UK hardcore. I worship GBH, especially the early stuff, which is everything up until the overlooked Midnight Madness and Beyond 1986. Their later stuff is still good but not as good. Your GBH song is Drugs Party, my GBH song is a toss up between Slut and I Am the Hunted both from CBABR. I should probably spin CB's Revenge more often, it's a fantastic record. Basketball game just ended here so now looks like a good a time as any.

NIGHTMARER -Deformity Adrift. A bit too djenty.

HEROD - Iconoclastic. Eclectic.

FLESH MEGALITH - Beneath The Rot. Nasty. Best listen of the last few days.

MERKABAH - Moloch. Hmm, blatant King Crimson worship. No, here's a riff from 'Lark's Tongues In Aspic'. Blatant King Crimson copyists. Nicely done though.

NP - KEIJI HAINO & SUMAC - Into this juvenile apocalypse our golden blood to pour let us never. This is a whole lot of noisy fun. Orca won't like it (yep, I presume to know your taste) GG will roll his eyes and turn off but markm might get it.

I actually meant actual physical skins of the marsupial national symbol.

As for the value of the Australiano, fuck knows. It's good for exporters apparently.

Alright nevermind the marsupial hides that was this morning, (not even sure where you were going with that train of thought) onto more pressing matters. Tell us Doc, what are your thoughts on Alice in Hell? On a scale of 1 to 10 how many roo kicks will you give it?

Love the cover on this Fleshy Megalith so I'm going in. Started out quite promising but these riffs don't seem to be going anywhere. Plenty of putrid atmosphgere though. I'll give it some time to unfold and reveal its inner rotten beauty.

Seems our Orca fancies himself a man of mystery. I'm sure he was joking but doesn't he realize we all pretty much know each others tastes inside and out by now? Unless he's been holding out on us.

Yeah as soon as I saw "Sumac" I put it right out of my mind.

I am a very late comer to hardcore and punk - only last few years.

Funny you should mention The Exploited:

I have no idea what I was thinking either so we will let the roo hides be.

As for AiH...I find the cover art purile, so -1 for that. The dudes are instrumentally competent and can play fast,+2 for that. The vocalist is trying hard but I do not like what he is doing at all so it's -1, gang shouted choruses, another -1. Chug-a-thon. Ho-hum. I'll let that ride.

So, it's a solid -1 out of 10 for me. Was it ever commercial? I don't know and everything released is commercial anyway.

NP  - after that unpleasant interlude - BLUT AUS NORD - Lovecraftian Echoes

And since only Doc knows what my taste is I'm only going to listen to albums he recommends from now on.

You are soon to be in a world of pain.

    • Whichever tier of thrash metal you consigned Sacred Reich back in the 80's/90's they still had their moments.  "Ignorance" & "Surf Nicaragura" did a great job of establishing the band, whereas "The American Way" just got a little to comfortable and accessible (the title track grates nowadays) for my ears.  A couple more records better left forgotten about and then nothing for twenty three years.  2019 alone has now seen three releases from Phil Rind and co.  A live EP, a split EP with Iron Reagan and now a full length.

Notable addition to the ranks for the current throng of releases is former Machine Head sticksman, Dave McClean.  Love or hate Machine Head, McClean is a more than capable drummer and his presence here is felt from the off with the opening and title track kicking things off with some real gusto.  'Divide & Conquer' and 'Salvation' muddle along nicely, never quite reaching any quality that would make my balls tingle but comfortable enough.  The looming build to 'Manifest Reality' delivers a real punch when the song starts proper.  Frenzied riffs and drums with shots of lead work to hold the interest.

There's a problem already though (I know, I am such a fucking mood hoover).  I don't like Phil's vocals.  I never had if I am being honest.  The aggression to them seems a little forced even when they are at their best on tracks like 'Manifest Reality'.  When he tries to sing it just feels weak though ('Salvation') and tracks lose real punch.  Give him a riffy number such as 'Killing Machine' and he is fine with the Reich engine (probably a poor choice of phrase) up in sixth gear.  For every thrashy riff there's a fair share of rock edged, local bar act rhythm aplenty too.

Let's not poo-poo proceedings though, because overall I actually enjoy "Awakening".  It is stacked full of catchy riffs that are sticky on the old ears.  Whilst not as raw as perhaps the - brilliant - artwork suggests with its black and white, tattoo flash sheet style design it is enjoyable enough.  Yes, 'Death Valley' & 'Something to Believe' have no place here, saved only by Arnett and Radziwill's lead work but 'Revolution' is a fucking 80's thrash heyday throwback to the extent that if you turn the TV on during it you might catch a new episode of Cheers!

    • Full length number 19 from overkill certainly makes a splash in the energy stakes, I mean there's some modern thrash bands that are a good two decades younger than Overkill who can only hope to achieve the levels of spunk that New Jersey's finest produce here.  That in itself is an achievement, for a band of Overkill's stature and reputation to be able to still sound relevant four decades into their career is no mean feat.  Even in the albums weaker moments it never gets redundant and the energy levels remain high.  There's a real sense of a band in a state of some renewed vigour, helped in no small part by the addition of Jason Bittner on drums.  The former Flotsam & Jetsam skinsman is nothing short of superb throughout "The Wings of War" and seems to have squeezed a little extra out of the rest of his peers.

The album kicks of with a great build to opening track "Last Man Standing" and for the first 4 tracks of the album the Overkill crew stomp, bash and groove their way to a solid level of consistency.  The lead work is of particular note and Blitz sounds as sneery and scathing as ever.  The album is well produced and mixed too with all parts of the thrash machine audible as the five piece hammer away at your skull with the usual blend of chugging riffs and infectious anthems.

There are weak moments as mentioned but they are more a victim of how good the strong tracks are.  In it's own right "Distortion" is a solid enough - if not slightly varied a journey from the last offering - but it just doesn't stand up well against a "Bat Shit Crazy" or a "Head of a Pin".  As the album draws to a close you get the increasing impression that the last few tracks are rescued really by some great solos and stomping skin work which is a shame because trimming of a couple of tracks may have made this less obvious.
