Command prompt: generate GMG list of all time best lo-fi black metal picks - Enter.

Just wanted to mention that I did see this the other day Luxi, don't want you to think I'm just ignoring you.

I've been thinking this over quite a bit since then and I've come to the conclusion that a comprehensive list like this would be a near impossible task. While I think I've made it pretty obvious to all that I love lo-fi black metal, I don't organize my collection in that way. Black metal and all its many sub-variants of all fies get tagged as simply "black metal" and I don't break it down any father than that. I'll break it down further in my mind while I'm listening to it, atmo-black, melodic black, bestial black, black/death, black/thrash, lo-fi black, Darkthrone clones....but it all just gets filed under black metal.

And honestly there are so many thousands of bm bands in existence, I've only just scratched the surface of what's out there to be found, I discover new (to me) lo-fi bands all the time. As much as I love lfbm I'm hardly an authority on the subject. And you know what they say about getting old, the memory is the first thing to go. (after the hair and the knees)

And then we haven't even addressed the dilema of where to draw the line. Almost all of the black metal I listen to is at least somewhat raw, certainly wouldn't call any of it hi-fi. I avoid the polished well produced stuff for the most part. So what counts as lo-fi in your mind? Or possibly a better question might be what doesn't count as lo-fi? Do you just want the fuzzy atmospheric stuff where it all just blends together and you can't discern the individual instruments? Or do you want me to include the rough sounding bestial stuff from the Blasphemy/Beherit school of bm? Would you consider the first 4 Darkthrone albums (not counting Soulside) lo-fi bm?

I love making lists and am generally happy to run with any excuse to make yet another one. But we'd definitely need to define 'lo-fi' in reasonably consensual terms so we could all be on the same page before I could begin to actually compile a meaningful list. And I'd think guys like Surge and Serpentboi might be better ones to ask than me because lo-fi bm really seems to be their thing at least as much or probably even more than it is mine.

Cradle of Filth - Dusk And Her Embrace - absolute classic and very suitable given the dreary dark wet weather.  Shame my house is modern Australian bland cardboard and not old Victorian or Georgian era full of mystery and eeriness to amplify the mood.

Haven't listened to that in a coon's age. Used to enjoy that one.
