2/10 I hate that album and song. Paschendale is the only song I half like from that record.

Really enjoyed that, not listened to much of Krisuin, yet! 7/10

10/10  I love Batushka - one of the most consistently enjoyable albums that I own.  The guitar tone and riffs, when matched with their vocals produces some of the most unique and fascinating dichotomi

Re: Rate the song above you! 5:35: 'You...are BOSS...' :P WOW. That was such a shred-fest that, if it were a paper shredder...it would have turned Anna Karenina into confetti by now. That was amazingly cool, especially considering that they didn't use keyboard much. That would be a fantastic song to blast over a car stereo, yes indeed. 9/10 at least. This band needs some attention. DVgbi7c1SLU They're my favorite German group...this whole album is a concept album about killing a dragon. :D

Re: Rate the song above you!:shock: \m/ \m/  \m/ WAAAAAAOOGH! 1:48 that's how I headbang...hurts a lot less. I might just get that song, that's how cool that was. Probably 9/10, give or take a bit. I think the vocals could have been a bit better. Otherwise, awesome work. I'm a sucker for melodeath...so hopefully I'll be able to match that with some more melodeath! This album's really the only good one this Italian band has...but it's great! MvLRtmSEPjs My personal favorite off of Flies and Lies - the title track. Enjoy.

Re: Rate the song above you! Big Queensryche influence there...that's good. 8/10, I think. Been bandying these guys around... uRMU1ViHPrk From Peru, they bring something entirely new to the folk scene, with the native sound of the Andes assimilated to an underlying death metal theme.

Re: Rate the song above you! Dat woz a cheezebuger. :D I loved it. It fully embraced the somewhat corny nature of power metal but then kicked it into overdrive with great technique. In particular I liked the first part of the verses, very good rhythm there. About 8.5/10 because the other parts of the verses were a tad boring. All right, some of my favorite power metal! OdngW3qMMco I love how the vocalist, Joachim Broden, looks exactly like Soap MacTavish from MW2.

Re: Rate the song above you! DIDGERIDOO! Then Celtic or gypsy folk...and BLAAAAM and then the folk melody again, oh heck yes that's awesome...And then something like a corny country song covered by Weird Al...WHAT THE HECK...and then keyboard solo, and then black metal with the main theme... Holy crud, that was extremely bizarre. Well, 8.5/10 because the country vocals annoyed me, but otherwise, great! Canadians are renowned for their tech death, but Ontario's produced a great power metal band too! WgHpbSBDqGE Matt Marinelli, eh?...great vocals. This is off of their new album. Just found it yesterday.

Re: Rate the song above you! Usually I hate Alestorm because of their vocals...so that was great. 9/10, and kudos to them for using the Pirates of The Caribbean theme! Just found some good stuff by these guys. Zc9r48cChCg Somewhat progressive power metal from Brazil.

    • Whichever tier of thrash metal you consigned Sacred Reich back in the 80's/90's they still had their moments.  "Ignorance" & "Surf Nicaragura" did a great job of establishing the band, whereas "The American Way" just got a little to comfortable and accessible (the title track grates nowadays) for my ears.  A couple more records better left forgotten about and then nothing for twenty three years.  2019 alone has now seen three releases from Phil Rind and co.  A live EP, a split EP with Iron Reagan and now a full length.

Notable addition to the ranks for the current throng of releases is former Machine Head sticksman, Dave McClean.  Love or hate Machine Head, McClean is a more than capable drummer and his presence here is felt from the off with the opening and title track kicking things off with some real gusto.  'Divide & Conquer' and 'Salvation' muddle along nicely, never quite reaching any quality that would make my balls tingle but comfortable enough.  The looming build to 'Manifest Reality' delivers a real punch when the song starts proper.  Frenzied riffs and drums with shots of lead work to hold the interest.

There's a problem already though (I know, I am such a fucking mood hoover).  I don't like Phil's vocals.  I never had if I am being honest.  The aggression to them seems a little forced even when they are at their best on tracks like 'Manifest Reality'.  When he tries to sing it just feels weak though ('Salvation') and tracks lose real punch.  Give him a riffy number such as 'Killing Machine' and he is fine with the Reich engine (probably a poor choice of phrase) up in sixth gear.  For every thrashy riff there's a fair share of rock edged, local bar act rhythm aplenty too.

Let's not poo-poo proceedings though, because overall I actually enjoy "Awakening".  It is stacked full of catchy riffs that are sticky on the old ears.  Whilst not as raw as perhaps the - brilliant - artwork suggests with its black and white, tattoo flash sheet style design it is enjoyable enough.  Yes, 'Death Valley' & 'Something to Believe' have no place here, saved only by Arnett and Radziwill's lead work but 'Revolution' is a fucking 80's thrash heyday throwback to the extent that if you turn the TV on during it you might catch a new episode of Cheers!
