I've seen quite a bit.  Many countries in western Europe, Brazil, numerous central American countries, Japan, 43/50 US states, 4 Canadian provinces.   My favorite to date was Costa Rica.  Warm people, gorgeous countryside, tons of wildlife, good food.

I personally like to be away from anything that qualifies as a big city. If forced to go into one, I prefer Europe - London, Paris, Budapest, Berlin, Stockholm. Favorite countries......hmmmmmm, Mexico is pretty cool, very diverse Nature, US has nice Nature too.

Wow, you're making me jealous in a good way. I've been to some countries in Europe (I even live in Europe), but I still want to explore more. I even want to see other continents

I, personally, really like Croatia. The sea is beautiful, the view is wonderful. But I also would like to visit, maybe, France or Greece.

As a neighbor country of Croatia (Slovenija) I can confirm Croatia is very beautiful :) I don't have any problems with Croatian people, they are very nice :)

I would like to go from NY to LA with a car someday :)

I enjoyed Hannoi in Vietnam, partly because we {I was travelling with family} made friends with the hotel staff, but also because there’s history there. I would love to visit Japan, and visit many European countries, Austria, Denmark, The Netherlands, Spain, Greece, Italy, and southern France for a start. Then there’s the obvious MDF in Baltimore, just need to avoid wearing a Bernie for President tee…

As for favourite cities there’s no place like home, where else on this blue planet could you start the day watching the sunrise over pristine Watters at a picturesque beach, drive 40mins and enjoy stunning waterfall and lake views along a nature trail, 20mins later enjoy tastings of the world’s best wines with a short walk to your choice of excellent cafes, and that night enjoy dinner at your choice of spectacular restaurants in the heart of the city? Yes I could wax lyrical about Adelaide until the heat death of the universe…

It would be a cool guerilla road trip band movie idea to go coast to coast in the States, with a flat bed truck setting up in random places and playing metal loudly.

But you'd probably get shot.

They are nice if you aren't a Croatian with a non-Croatian looking wife. We got treated like shit when we were there.  I asked my cousins why and they said it was because my fiance was clearly non-Croatian (Anglo-Saxon heritage) and because we had tattoos which only criminals have in Croatia.  🙄

Why aren't you bringing your own firepower to the game?  😆

On a serious note, if I lived in America I would definitely own semi-auto rifles and maybe even get one of those collectors licences so I can own fully automatic weapons.

Not me, I could only live in San Fran anyway, and a blind man with a gun is a terrible idea as a means of self defence. Target shooting on the other hand is a completely different story, it was actually pretty fun the one time I got to do it.

Dude, you wouldn't need a gun to safely walk around the city by the bay. You'll probably trip over some homeless panhandlers downtown in Union Square begging for spare change but that's about the worst that's likely to happen to you. Contrary to how the media likes to sensationalize things the overwhelming majority walking the streets of our cities are not strapped. Most gun deaths are either suicides or someone close to the victim, crimes of passion and the like. Stay out of like Texas, the bible belt and the deepest red states and of course elementary schools and you'll be fine.

What's the point of living in America if you don't own guns?  I'd live in one of those states with open carry.  Nothing like going to the supermarket with a couple of M1911s (classic!) on my sides and H&K USC carbine on my back.

I’m aware, blue states generally have less violent crime, and fewer guns in general. Sam Fran just has a reputation for being a very progressive city, in the most progressive state, so if I wants to live on your side of the pond, that’s where it would be.

To be fair you can't generalize by state, you really have to go county by county. There are loads of very red areas within all blue states, and plenty of blue areas in all the red states. There are more Republican conservative voters in California than there are in any red state. Also the San Francisco bay area is easily the most outrageously expensive place to live in this entire country, so unless you're very wealthy to begin with or have massive earning power you'd do better to just stay away and look elsewhere. The weather's also probably a bit cooler there than you'd prefer, San Diego or Orange County might be more your speed. My sister lived in Santa Clara (south bay) for about 12 years and I have another metalhead friend who lived in the next town over in Sunnyvale (he's since relocated his family to Idaho and now complains incessantly about how unfair it is that most metal tours skip over Boise) and after visiting both of them a few times I can tell you I wouldn't live there in the SF bay arera if they paid me.

Personally if I were looking to relocate anywhere in this country I would look around the Portland Oregon or Seattle Washington areas, other west coast cities also known as fairly progressive hippie enclaves, but a little less crowded, and a little less expensive, and a little more laid back than Cali. The Oregon coast is breathtakingly beautiful and I think the weather all around might actually be better and warmer there than down in the bay area which is known for it's chilly ocean breezes. Also Denver (another fairly progressive oasis in the western US) has awesome weather, more sunny days than any other US city, low humidity and the winters are surprisingly mild (compared to what I'm used to) although probably still not mild enough to suit an Aussie.

But I know you're not really going to move here, just saying you'd probably want to rethink your choice of the San Francisco bay area if you actually were. My late wife had all these preconceptions and expectations of New York from movies and the media, and then when she actually got here she absolutely fucking hated it. You can't choose the best places to live from afar without experiencing them live in person at least once or twice.

Yeah but the rednecks in them open carry states wouldn't like you bro, you're a foreigner and you talk funny. Don't tell them you're from Tasmania as they'd probably think that was in Africa somewhere. Good ole boys aren't so good at geography, and most of them have never been 500 miles from where they grew up. You're better off in a purple state where you can apply for a concealed carry permit, although that's really just gonna cover you for handguns. Here in deep blue New Jersey it's legal to own a firearm and have it in your own home, but if you ever get caught actually firing it or taking it out of your house anywhere that's gonna be a real big problem for you. This isn't one of those states where you can just go out into the woods and have some fun shooting your guns. I had to drive to PA just to buy a little BB gun for the kid to shoot at a target I hung up for us to have some fun with in the backyard.

Truth is there's really nowhere in this country that you can actually walk around in public with an $1,800 SMG carbine slung across your back without getting hassled. And the H&K USC only comes with two 10 round mags, if you upgraded to an illegal (in most states) aftermarket larger capacity 20 round magazine (the first video) and took it out in public you'd probably get arrested for that too. Looks like most of these dudes get these converted to UMP (to accept double-stacked magazines) which costs about $1,000 (and up) and involves changing out serveral parts and poterntially shortening the barrel down to a nub. (2nd video) Not sure why you'd want something chambered for .45 ACP anyway as it's god damned expensive ammo, .48 cents per round (that's .78 AUD)

This scenario is starting to turn into Dethklok. I was thinking a little more low key than mountainous stages flown in by helicopter.

My other metal band concept "road movie" was touring the universe and bringing metal to the backwaters. Where there's green chicks with tentacle heads. Or the planet of amoebas.

Kind of Ice Pirates meets Bad News, meets Red Dwarf.

Sounds more like Guardians of the Galaxy but with metal instead of incipid classic rock.

Much more relatable than American gun toting Christo-fascists.

The scary part is I could have been one of those guys if I had been born into a redneck familiy in a backwoods rural area instead of to college educated people in the suburbs of New York. Although I still have my doubts that I would have been abe to go along with the Christo-indoctrination psychosis regardless of what circumstances I'd been born into.

    • Whichever tier of thrash metal you consigned Sacred Reich back in the 80's/90's they still had their moments.  "Ignorance" & "Surf Nicaragura" did a great job of establishing the band, whereas "The American Way" just got a little to comfortable and accessible (the title track grates nowadays) for my ears.  A couple more records better left forgotten about and then nothing for twenty three years.  2019 alone has now seen three releases from Phil Rind and co.  A live EP, a split EP with Iron Reagan and now a full length.

Notable addition to the ranks for the current throng of releases is former Machine Head sticksman, Dave McClean.  Love or hate Machine Head, McClean is a more than capable drummer and his presence here is felt from the off with the opening and title track kicking things off with some real gusto.  'Divide & Conquer' and 'Salvation' muddle along nicely, never quite reaching any quality that would make my balls tingle but comfortable enough.  The looming build to 'Manifest Reality' delivers a real punch when the song starts proper.  Frenzied riffs and drums with shots of lead work to hold the interest.

There's a problem already though (I know, I am such a fucking mood hoover).  I don't like Phil's vocals.  I never had if I am being honest.  The aggression to them seems a little forced even when they are at their best on tracks like 'Manifest Reality'.  When he tries to sing it just feels weak though ('Salvation') and tracks lose real punch.  Give him a riffy number such as 'Killing Machine' and he is fine with the Reich engine (probably a poor choice of phrase) up in sixth gear.  For every thrashy riff there's a fair share of rock edged, local bar act rhythm aplenty too.

Let's not poo-poo proceedings though, because overall I actually enjoy "Awakening".  It is stacked full of catchy riffs that are sticky on the old ears.  Whilst not as raw as perhaps the - brilliant - artwork suggests with its black and white, tattoo flash sheet style design it is enjoyable enough.  Yes, 'Death Valley' & 'Something to Believe' have no place here, saved only by Arnett and Radziwill's lead work but 'Revolution' is a fucking 80's thrash heyday throwback to the extent that if you turn the TV on during it you might catch a new episode of Cheers!

    • Full length number 19 from overkill certainly makes a splash in the energy stakes, I mean there's some modern thrash bands that are a good two decades younger than Overkill who can only hope to achieve the levels of spunk that New Jersey's finest produce here.  That in itself is an achievement, for a band of Overkill's stature and reputation to be able to still sound relevant four decades into their career is no mean feat.  Even in the albums weaker moments it never gets redundant and the energy levels remain high.  There's a real sense of a band in a state of some renewed vigour, helped in no small part by the addition of Jason Bittner on drums.  The former Flotsam & Jetsam skinsman is nothing short of superb throughout "The Wings of War" and seems to have squeezed a little extra out of the rest of his peers.

The album kicks of with a great build to opening track "Last Man Standing" and for the first 4 tracks of the album the Overkill crew stomp, bash and groove their way to a solid level of consistency.  The lead work is of particular note and Blitz sounds as sneery and scathing as ever.  The album is well produced and mixed too with all parts of the thrash machine audible as the five piece hammer away at your skull with the usual blend of chugging riffs and infectious anthems.

There are weak moments as mentioned but they are more a victim of how good the strong tracks are.  In it's own right "Distortion" is a solid enough - if not slightly varied a journey from the last offering - but it just doesn't stand up well against a "Bat Shit Crazy" or a "Head of a Pin".  As the album draws to a close you get the increasing impression that the last few tracks are rescued really by some great solos and stomping skin work which is a shame because trimming of a couple of tracks may have made this less obvious.
