@Requiem pretty sure I understood the word 'pint' correctly in the other post you mentioned me now.

I like you.

Edit:

It's evening now and I am drunk and a a little stoned. Feeling the essence a little more. What I mean by that is the will to grow. Going to meditate a little before a nighttime gym session. No one can take the will to grow from you. Hail.

(Getting edgy there)

Well, that certainly was a great night I had. Mid-week partying. What a great invention.

Also, much respect to you for getting drunk and stoned and then going for a gym session.

I bet you remember it as 70 minutes of full impact high-burn workout, when in reality you tottered around the gym for 6(66) minutes, fell off a treadmill, then went to the pub.

No I don't. Usually I only go to pubs on the weekends and only if my friends ask me.

Yeah, drunk stoned, whatever, I enjoy it so it's not something I need to force myself to, thus going drunk or/and stoned is also not too hard (unless I am tired). I recently found out that I stay longer at night also. It's also something I do for a very weird reason since I don't necessarily do it for health benefits or the looks (would not drink or smoke if I did), but because I found it interesting from early on and also challenging.

Back to topic, Not drunk now but hungover and tired from the festival I came home from just now. Am I the only one who gets drunk only on the first day despite drinking all of the days there? I got very drunk on day 1 and drank almost as much the ones following. But then I always knew I was drunk but was almost 100% there mentally and also did not act drunk in any way. I think it has to do with being tired and drinking because I only slept 4 hours on average. Gonna drink some sweet honey wine now.

Ah, I see you come from the literalist school. Of course, the bulk of my post was I jest.

Ever since that drunkard Dr Thrash was barred (for drunkenness) this thread has been slow. Let’s get it going again boozers! Who’s drunk? Not me. Never.

I gave it a good go last night, which was unwise because tonight Belief is coming over and tomorrow night is a black metal show, which means alcoholocaust. It's a long weekend in Melbourne so the family has fled to the beach and I'm unchaining the wolf within.

Having just discovered a new alcohol free beer that tastes quite alright (James Squire Zero) and not like cat piss, I'm afraid I won't be posting on this thread much!

Good one.

I have never tasted an alcohol beer worth drinking, and despite your recommendation I don't think I'll try this one.

Also sober.

I regularly think about giving up the drink. I enjoy a beer or a whiskey now and then, but I admit I could do without. I rarely drink too the point of inebriation. Just don't enjoy it.

The last drink I had was two bottles of beer (on separate days) around Christmas-time. The one prior to that was before lockdown started in March 2020; don't remember when. So I guess that means I don't drink now.

I can't say it was ever a problem except when my wife worked for an alcohol company that gave, as perk, a couple hundred quid a year to spend at their on-site bottle shop. I drank way too much flavoured vodkas and gins that year. I didn't even need or want to. It was just in the cupboard.

Life is better without it. And also removes one more impediment to me being able to judge everyone else around as lesser and worthless humans.

The next thing to give up is a car, but I'm trying to work out the logistics of that. Although not as hard this week given that everyone is panic buying petrol and all the gas stations are empty.

Giving up the car is much easier in Europe than the US unless you live in one of the major urban centers. Not even an option where I live. It's 5 miles to the nearest grocery and 12 miles to work. When I was younger, I did commute by bike quite a lot, but in my current city there isn't much allowance for cyclists and the Florida weather makes it rather miserable most of the year. When I lived in Sicily, we did not have a car for 2 years and it was easy. The US needs better infrastructure and public transport options desperately, but y'know that would be socialist and stuff....smh.

    • Whichever tier of thrash metal you consigned Sacred Reich back in the 80's/90's they still had their moments.  "Ignorance" & "Surf Nicaragura" did a great job of establishing the band, whereas "The American Way" just got a little to comfortable and accessible (the title track grates nowadays) for my ears.  A couple more records better left forgotten about and then nothing for twenty three years.  2019 alone has now seen three releases from Phil Rind and co.  A live EP, a split EP with Iron Reagan and now a full length.

Notable addition to the ranks for the current throng of releases is former Machine Head sticksman, Dave McClean.  Love or hate Machine Head, McClean is a more than capable drummer and his presence here is felt from the off with the opening and title track kicking things off with some real gusto.  'Divide & Conquer' and 'Salvation' muddle along nicely, never quite reaching any quality that would make my balls tingle but comfortable enough.  The looming build to 'Manifest Reality' delivers a real punch when the song starts proper.  Frenzied riffs and drums with shots of lead work to hold the interest.

There's a problem already though (I know, I am such a fucking mood hoover).  I don't like Phil's vocals.  I never had if I am being honest.  The aggression to them seems a little forced even when they are at their best on tracks like 'Manifest Reality'.  When he tries to sing it just feels weak though ('Salvation') and tracks lose real punch.  Give him a riffy number such as 'Killing Machine' and he is fine with the Reich engine (probably a poor choice of phrase) up in sixth gear.  For every thrashy riff there's a fair share of rock edged, local bar act rhythm aplenty too.

Let's not poo-poo proceedings though, because overall I actually enjoy "Awakening".  It is stacked full of catchy riffs that are sticky on the old ears.  Whilst not as raw as perhaps the - brilliant - artwork suggests with its black and white, tattoo flash sheet style design it is enjoyable enough.  Yes, 'Death Valley' & 'Something to Believe' have no place here, saved only by Arnett and Radziwill's lead work but 'Revolution' is a fucking 80's thrash heyday throwback to the extent that if you turn the TV on during it you might catch a new episode of Cheers!

    • Full length number 19 from overkill certainly makes a splash in the energy stakes, I mean there's some modern thrash bands that are a good two decades younger than Overkill who can only hope to achieve the levels of spunk that New Jersey's finest produce here.  That in itself is an achievement, for a band of Overkill's stature and reputation to be able to still sound relevant four decades into their career is no mean feat.  Even in the albums weaker moments it never gets redundant and the energy levels remain high.  There's a real sense of a band in a state of some renewed vigour, helped in no small part by the addition of Jason Bittner on drums.  The former Flotsam & Jetsam skinsman is nothing short of superb throughout "The Wings of War" and seems to have squeezed a little extra out of the rest of his peers.

The album kicks of with a great build to opening track "Last Man Standing" and for the first 4 tracks of the album the Overkill crew stomp, bash and groove their way to a solid level of consistency.  The lead work is of particular note and Blitz sounds as sneery and scathing as ever.  The album is well produced and mixed too with all parts of the thrash machine audible as the five piece hammer away at your skull with the usual blend of chugging riffs and infectious anthems.

There are weak moments as mentioned but they are more a victim of how good the strong tracks are.  In it's own right "Distortion" is a solid enough - if not slightly varied a journey from the last offering - but it just doesn't stand up well against a "Bat Shit Crazy" or a "Head of a Pin".  As the album draws to a close you get the increasing impression that the last few tracks are rescued really by some great solos and stomping skin work which is a shame because trimming of a couple of tracks may have made this less obvious.
