I've scrapped almost the entire thing in the end. Re-writing it is making a difference but I'm still not happy with it. I have the same trouble writing lyrics I just can't translate the images I see into words effectively.
Maybe you can start from the feelings those images wake in you?

Turns out what I thought was just a speedbump is actually a brick wall. I've even tried re-writing the entire story with no success. Perhaps I should abandon this story for now and start writing something else.

If you ever need a sparring partner, I'm available. I write a lot and have joined a few writing forums, so I might be able to help. Sometimes all it takes is a fresh perspective.

Sadly I lost all that work when my old computer decided to commit suicide. I haven't really done much writing since.

EDIT: The draft mentioned above turned out to be a dead end. Turns out I actually hated the idea. Should have a first draft of another short story finished this week so if people are interested I'll post it here.

I wrote quite a few stories and 2 novels but all of them are in my native language. Soon I'll be writing again and for the first time - in English. Then I'll write the same story in my language. It's gonna be an alternate ending of "The 100" - the way it should have ended. I'll just have to rewatch the tv show again (at season 3 right now) in order to hunt down some key moments I'll need for the story.

Thread necro time because it's raining out and I don't feel like unbogging the tractor.

I've written quite a bit over the years, many hours spent alone in the truck gave me all sorts of ideas and eventually I started to put them down rather than just remember them. So far I have 4 full length novels a heap of short stories and a few serials. They range from metal based stupidity to horror, to suspense to comedy, even to a kids book I wrote for my daughter. I never really wrote thinking that I'd get published, although I did try fairly hard once to make it happen, but I admit it was never serious because I never went down the path of agents and multiple proof readers etc I just went straight to the publishers. I've also done the Wattpad/Wordpress/etc path and had periods of more than 10,000 followers with up to 3000 views and maybe 500 comments a day. But in the end life got too busy and I just couldn't keep up with daily work, family and posting new stuff so writing took a back seat. While I never actually stopped writing the last few years I have gone months between putting ideas down. I do currently have another full length suspense novel in the works but I feel no pressure to finish it, along with the tons of other notes I have written that may or may not ever make a full length story.

I haven't done any creative writing since I took a class in college. Most of the writing I do is on forums and online. It's kind of a shame because I used to like to write, but I rarely have any inspiration to try and craft a story anymore. I think the last thing I wrote was a story about an AI that thought it was a human & experienced a malign paradigm shift when it "saw" it's reflection in a mirror and realized it was just a computer. It was about twenty five pages or so but it was on my old laptop and that one died, so I'd have to rewrite it if I wanted anyone to read it again. I remember I got a good grade on it, but it wasn't hard to get a good grade in creative writing because it was more about the way that you wrote rather than what you wrote.

I really need to get back to my writing, the worlds next best seller is sitting half finished on my computer.

Actually no it's not, but I still really should get back to it, not only is it relaxing and helps me wind down after a hard day it's pointless leaving another half finished story floating around until I forget the story line I was following.

With this years fire season not looking as bad as it's been in a while I might get some downtime this summer to do stuff.

    • Whichever tier of thrash metal you consigned Sacred Reich back in the 80's/90's they still had their moments.  "Ignorance" & "Surf Nicaragura" did a great job of establishing the band, whereas "The American Way" just got a little to comfortable and accessible (the title track grates nowadays) for my ears.  A couple more records better left forgotten about and then nothing for twenty three years.  2019 alone has now seen three releases from Phil Rind and co.  A live EP, a split EP with Iron Reagan and now a full length.

Notable addition to the ranks for the current throng of releases is former Machine Head sticksman, Dave McClean.  Love or hate Machine Head, McClean is a more than capable drummer and his presence here is felt from the off with the opening and title track kicking things off with some real gusto.  'Divide & Conquer' and 'Salvation' muddle along nicely, never quite reaching any quality that would make my balls tingle but comfortable enough.  The looming build to 'Manifest Reality' delivers a real punch when the song starts proper.  Frenzied riffs and drums with shots of lead work to hold the interest.

There's a problem already though (I know, I am such a fucking mood hoover).  I don't like Phil's vocals.  I never had if I am being honest.  The aggression to them seems a little forced even when they are at their best on tracks like 'Manifest Reality'.  When he tries to sing it just feels weak though ('Salvation') and tracks lose real punch.  Give him a riffy number such as 'Killing Machine' and he is fine with the Reich engine (probably a poor choice of phrase) up in sixth gear.  For every thrashy riff there's a fair share of rock edged, local bar act rhythm aplenty too.

Let's not poo-poo proceedings though, because overall I actually enjoy "Awakening".  It is stacked full of catchy riffs that are sticky on the old ears.  Whilst not as raw as perhaps the - brilliant - artwork suggests with its black and white, tattoo flash sheet style design it is enjoyable enough.  Yes, 'Death Valley' & 'Something to Believe' have no place here, saved only by Arnett and Radziwill's lead work but 'Revolution' is a fucking 80's thrash heyday throwback to the extent that if you turn the TV on during it you might catch a new episode of Cheers!

    • Full length number 19 from overkill certainly makes a splash in the energy stakes, I mean there's some modern thrash bands that are a good two decades younger than Overkill who can only hope to achieve the levels of spunk that New Jersey's finest produce here.  That in itself is an achievement, for a band of Overkill's stature and reputation to be able to still sound relevant four decades into their career is no mean feat.  Even in the albums weaker moments it never gets redundant and the energy levels remain high.  There's a real sense of a band in a state of some renewed vigour, helped in no small part by the addition of Jason Bittner on drums.  The former Flotsam & Jetsam skinsman is nothing short of superb throughout "The Wings of War" and seems to have squeezed a little extra out of the rest of his peers.

The album kicks of with a great build to opening track "Last Man Standing" and for the first 4 tracks of the album the Overkill crew stomp, bash and groove their way to a solid level of consistency.  The lead work is of particular note and Blitz sounds as sneery and scathing as ever.  The album is well produced and mixed too with all parts of the thrash machine audible as the five piece hammer away at your skull with the usual blend of chugging riffs and infectious anthems.

There are weak moments as mentioned but they are more a victim of how good the strong tracks are.  In it's own right "Distortion" is a solid enough - if not slightly varied a journey from the last offering - but it just doesn't stand up well against a "Bat Shit Crazy" or a "Head of a Pin".  As the album draws to a close you get the increasing impression that the last few tracks are rescued really by some great solos and stomping skin work which is a shame because trimming of a couple of tracks may have made this less obvious.
