Re: Cars Ha! Ha! Murph! However, I genuinely adore the E-Type - and am the first to admit it when foreigners do something better, like Metal. As to the DB5, it's nice, but from what I understand from Top Gear (though that may have been a DB4) the E-Type is more fun to drive. Also, the curvacious sleekness of the body is just like the manufacturer's name, like a long, luxurious cat. Simply, it is gorgeous. Having said which, from a driving experience all classic cars are meant to suck by modern standards. P.S. I see that the DB5 is set to appear in the new James Bond film - that'll be fun, watching James struggle to chase somebody in a car with creaky and stiff old transmission, a top speed of 145 mph and an acceleration of 0-60 in 7.1 seconds. Also, good luck to him on getting leaded petrol - that'd be even more riveting, watching the bad guy zoom away while Bond looks shifty on the hard shoulder of the motorway and calls the A.A.

Re: Cars We lost TVR, oh %#?£! As for the new Bond film, it's called Skyfall and is out (hurriedly click on Wikipedia) on the 26th of October in the Ukay, so I'm not sure about Australia. Thunderball followed Goldfinger, but I don't think there doing the whole timeline thing - they have to be seen as hip and modern because of Jason Bounre 8-) ! I also hear (what is it with me and my "I hear" lines, it makes me sound like some sort of creepy politician/blackmailer/spymaster) that they are doing a new Bourne film - the Bounre Legacy. I wish I was joking, but yet again artistic itegrity come a poor second behind financial expedient. Still, at least Paul Greengrass and Matt Damon declined to be in it, and indeed the film dosen't have Bourne in it :? . I think that's when I groaned the most, watching the trailer and here the breath, "this is an important and dnagerous revelation" American voice saying "Jason Bourne was just the start". Please, Bourne was the alpha and omega of the thing. There is no deeper to dig, I don't want to see his sympathetic character replaced by some cardboard cut-out boob with a muscular chest "going rogue" and trying to bring down yet another conspiracy. This is where Bond scores, he is adaptable and came take on bad guy after bad guy, but Bourne was different, a real character in a proper situation where things really changed as opposed to having the reset button hit at the end of the film. I will be very surprised if the Bourne Legacy is anything more than an excuse to watch a buff actor who "Men want to be, women want to be with" kick the ^&@]!#? out of a lot of other guys, which is made to seem O.K. by some limp notion that they are "Bad" hawked up like stinking, stale phlem from the previous Bourne films and every other conspiracy plot in history. The same goes for the new Spiderman movie. I mean, I know that the Sam Raimi didn't get everything right about Spidey, namely his wisecracking and running from the cops where (studiously) ignored, but really, I've seen the trailer  . We're back with another genesis movie  , except this time it's darker. However, having seen the trailer, the fight scenes make Spidey look like a big fat girl, the jerky roof-top running looks like a computer game with the added bonus of making one feel physically sick and the jokes aren't funny. Oh, and no Marry Jane, Gwen Stacy instead played by Rachael McAdams (Mean Girls, Sherlock Holmes) - serious suck for me for whom the Spidey films were among my first introductions to superheroes, and the MJ - Peter relationship geekishly sacrosanct. Oh look, this video says it so much more eloquently. Enjoy! lg6v1dgTcxw&feature=plcp&context=C4e309deVDvjVQa1PpcFNl2xeLwAiIo4rWJxR1Akwe5V163vnZSaw%3D

Re: Cars new batman looks like it'll suck too, and I sincerely hope this years Resident Evil film will be the last, the first was good, Apocalypse sucked, Extinction was pretty good, but Afterlife was only barely ok, that franchise needs to die whilst it's still semi respectable, or move into the concepts from games four and five and ditch the Alice character, Umbrella corp and the T-virus

Re: Cars Never seen Resident Evil - but my brother is a massive fan of the films. I though the Batman looked possibly quite good, but I guess you never really know until its out. I suppose that just leaves the Avengers film to criticise, though I have to say that I am almost mad with anticipation - I mean, I know that there is a good chance that it will be bloody awful, but if it's good... Having said which, I kinda like watching new films in peace and quiet so I probably will be seeing it way later than everybody else, when the DVD is out. After all, it can't cost more than it does to go to the cinema, and one gets to watch it over and over again.

Re: Cars I'm no pro photographer but I remember taking lots of pictures at the Southwestern Muscle Car Nationals. One fellow who goes to my church recommended them because he'd attended with his '71 Mercury Cyclone several times and enjoyed it. It was indeed a wonderful occasion and I very much enjoyed myself.

Re: Cars On a related note, I've been playing Forza Motorsport and have learned sometimes maximum power doesn't make the car the best it can get. I don't know how well this game correlates with reality, but the Ferrari F355 Challenge is very impressive. I love the Jaguar XJ220, and it's probably my favorite car in the game, but if I'm honest with myself the F355 is a better overall car. The handling is magnificent.

Re: Cars Forza 4 is about the closest thing to real driving you can get in my estimation, and the Aston Martin DB9 is easily my favourite car in the game, closely followed by the Holden VE Commodore touring car (or as we call them V8 Supercars) but the best car in the game is probably the Pagani Zonda

On a related note, I've been playing Forza Motorsport and have learned sometimes maximum power doesn't make the car the best it can get. quote] Yep, that is the curse and blessing of American Cars - they put a great big engine in the front so it blasts of like the clappers but it's a nightmare to drive with rubbish brakes, stearing, suspention etc.

Re: Cars

ever driven a TVR? you Brits aren't exactly perfect in that department either you know
 WIN. The Cerbera Speed 12 in Forza is a nightmare to drive, it handles like a speedboat. :? I'm trying to unlock the Shelby Series 1 (a surprisingly good roadster) in Forza right now. To do that I have to drive the legendary 1967 Shelby Cobra, which has the same handling characteristics as a bowling ball boated in bacon grease. And I have to win ALL the races in this thing, too...only one left to go. Ironically the race is on a British track, SIlverstone. On a related note, I'll have you all know that I managed to beat my fully-tuned XJ220's lap time in a Saleen S7 (an American car) by about six seconds. Finally, a proper US supercar.

Re: Cars I actually visited HSV's website and you make some awesome sedans, but honestly, the styling is just screaming to made into a two-door, 400hp M3-killer. Also, I FINALLY unlocked the Shelby Series 1, which looks like this: fd_shelby-series-1_lead1.jpg And it is wonderful. Splendid handling and a great deal of power. My modified version can keep up with a Ferrari Enzo.

    • Whichever tier of thrash metal you consigned Sacred Reich back in the 80's/90's they still had their moments.  "Ignorance" & "Surf Nicaragura" did a great job of establishing the band, whereas "The American Way" just got a little to comfortable and accessible (the title track grates nowadays) for my ears.  A couple more records better left forgotten about and then nothing for twenty three years.  2019 alone has now seen three releases from Phil Rind and co.  A live EP, a split EP with Iron Reagan and now a full length.

Notable addition to the ranks for the current throng of releases is former Machine Head sticksman, Dave McClean.  Love or hate Machine Head, McClean is a more than capable drummer and his presence here is felt from the off with the opening and title track kicking things off with some real gusto.  'Divide & Conquer' and 'Salvation' muddle along nicely, never quite reaching any quality that would make my balls tingle but comfortable enough.  The looming build to 'Manifest Reality' delivers a real punch when the song starts proper.  Frenzied riffs and drums with shots of lead work to hold the interest.

There's a problem already though (I know, I am such a fucking mood hoover).  I don't like Phil's vocals.  I never had if I am being honest.  The aggression to them seems a little forced even when they are at their best on tracks like 'Manifest Reality'.  When he tries to sing it just feels weak though ('Salvation') and tracks lose real punch.  Give him a riffy number such as 'Killing Machine' and he is fine with the Reich engine (probably a poor choice of phrase) up in sixth gear.  For every thrashy riff there's a fair share of rock edged, local bar act rhythm aplenty too.

Let's not poo-poo proceedings though, because overall I actually enjoy "Awakening".  It is stacked full of catchy riffs that are sticky on the old ears.  Whilst not as raw as perhaps the - brilliant - artwork suggests with its black and white, tattoo flash sheet style design it is enjoyable enough.  Yes, 'Death Valley' & 'Something to Believe' have no place here, saved only by Arnett and Radziwill's lead work but 'Revolution' is a fucking 80's thrash heyday throwback to the extent that if you turn the TV on during it you might catch a new episode of Cheers!

    • Full length number 19 from overkill certainly makes a splash in the energy stakes, I mean there's some modern thrash bands that are a good two decades younger than Overkill who can only hope to achieve the levels of spunk that New Jersey's finest produce here.  That in itself is an achievement, for a band of Overkill's stature and reputation to be able to still sound relevant four decades into their career is no mean feat.  Even in the albums weaker moments it never gets redundant and the energy levels remain high.  There's a real sense of a band in a state of some renewed vigour, helped in no small part by the addition of Jason Bittner on drums.  The former Flotsam & Jetsam skinsman is nothing short of superb throughout "The Wings of War" and seems to have squeezed a little extra out of the rest of his peers.

The album kicks of with a great build to opening track "Last Man Standing" and for the first 4 tracks of the album the Overkill crew stomp, bash and groove their way to a solid level of consistency.  The lead work is of particular note and Blitz sounds as sneery and scathing as ever.  The album is well produced and mixed too with all parts of the thrash machine audible as the five piece hammer away at your skull with the usual blend of chugging riffs and infectious anthems.

There are weak moments as mentioned but they are more a victim of how good the strong tracks are.  In it's own right "Distortion" is a solid enough - if not slightly varied a journey from the last offering - but it just doesn't stand up well against a "Bat Shit Crazy" or a "Head of a Pin".  As the album draws to a close you get the increasing impression that the last few tracks are rescued really by some great solos and stomping skin work which is a shame because trimming of a couple of tracks may have made this less obvious.
