your biggest accoplishments/goals in life?

Recommended Posts

Some good beer in a hand, calm around me and music in the background. I achieved many of my goals, and I will propably achieve the rest in the future. So now I just wish to have more good albums and taste beer from around the world. BTW I just realize that in the local store with beers there is a one called Iron Maiden, with Eddie on the label. I must defenitely try it out hehe, although it's not cheap.
It's a pretty decent one. Fairly standard English bitter. A little like Hobgoblin, if you've tried that? :)

Nah, as far as I know I've never tried any english beer. Mainly I drink beer from Poland, Germany and Czech Republic. But I also like to drink something from other countries (my brother once bought even a japanese one, haha, it was pretty good), so I will be looking for this Hobgoblin. Especially that this booze has nice name haha, Privately, I like the most some local polish bock beers, and also german Paulaner. The latter one is quite popular in the world, from what I know.

Nice! Had any good Polish ones? You should check out this site, where you can order beers from all over the world. The Belgian and American selections are outstanding: Beer, Wine, Cider & More | Beers Of Europe

I'm pretty proud of my accomplishments so far. I've survived school and college. I've got good results in both my GCSEs and A-levels. I overcame some pretty serious anxieties last year. Now I want to meet some new like-minded people, learn to drive and eventually go to university. My long-term goal is to live in Sweden, because it's the greatest country in the world. I want to have learned Swedish by the time I get there as well. :) Other than that, I wanna discover new music, get to more gigs, maybe even manage a festival at some point. And, of course, like Vladyka mentioned, sample some more awesome brews! I'm going to Belgium in August, which I'm literally pissing myself about! :D

Achievements? Hang on let me check my Xbox :D In all seriousness I haven't achieved anything to this point in my life, certainly nothing I consider noteworthy anyway. I passed high school with a reasonable grade but that's about it. Now if we're talking goals well I've got three major ones for this year: 1. To be capable of preparing and cooking (without any assistance whatsoever) three to five meals. I would consider this an achievement since at present I do need some assistance when prepping/cooking (it all stems back to the whole vision situation). 2. To improve on my personal best times in the 1km time trial and 4km individual pursuit (ironic name for a tandem event isn't it). A lot of hard work would go into this so that's another accomplishment. 3. To make a new friend. I know that seems like a small thing but I really struggle making friends and maintaining friendships so this is a big deal for me. At the end of the year I'll check back in and see if I tick any of those boxes.

@JBaker try this (one of my favourites): Kozlak Bock Beer | Browar Amber It's out of the stock, but maybe you will find it somewhere in the stores. Also speaking of Poland and alcohol (haha!), try this if you like something stronger. It's my favourite vodka, made from around 30 herbs: Wodka Zoladkowa Gorzka | Polish Vodka
Hey man, you should post more suggestions in our beer thread: http://metalforum.com/off-topic/3734-beer-ale-lager-appreciation-thread.html I've had a few Polish beers - Zywiec, Tyskie, Lomza - some of them make a good porter, but mostly they're just very similar light lagers. So any more flavorful recommendations would be awesome. Big Polish population near where I live, so it shouldn't be too hard to find something good.

I was hit by a car at the age of 8, knocked 20 feet in the air and landed head first on the bonnet (hood for our US members) and slid another 20 foot or so into the oncoming flow of traffic. I got up and walked away with one stitch in my head and a badly sprained wrist. Might have more to do with luck than anything else but to walk away is an accomplishment in my book. Career wise I've worked my way up progressively over ten years into a senior management role having survived one redundancy situation by proving myself too valuable to let go. I have responsibility for massive sums of money that need to be saved and answer directly to a board of directors. Throughout this I have successfully avoided turning into a massive twat! 8 years ago I found the strength to stand up and tell my hellish, older and quite controlling wife that I was not happy and was leaving and I haven't looked back since.

Cheers. I'll check those out! Want to get more into vodka and spirits in general, really. :)

That is something I quite like about this forum, many of the people on here are actually quite successful in their own right but are humble to the extent of almost never talking about it.

Re: your biggest accoplishments/goals in life? Received a huge commendation at work on Friday. One of my biggest customers is a logistics/freight coordination company that uses local delivery agents nationwide to service national accounts, the biggest of these accounts is Home Depot. We've been doing work for them for years, people place orders online or at stores for larger items that they want delivered (sinks, vanities, bath tubs, doors, etc...), it comes to us from distribution, and we take it all over Utah to people's houses. We've always heard from them that we do great work for them, but we were officially recognized by them yesterday as their delivery agent of the year in 2013. They said that out of 170 delivery agents in their national network, we were by far the fastest and most precise at getting deliveries done and doing them well (without mistakes or customer service issues), and that's really saying something for us, as we're one of the smallest companies in their network. Made me feel pretty good, as I'm the one that runs the day to day operation, including routing and dispatching their deliveries. Sent from my HTC PH39100 using Tapatalk 2

Nice' date=' dude! Have you heard any more about the changes you were talking about, there? Is your situation a little more tolerable?[/quote'] We're kind of in a holding pattern right now, it depends entirely on what the owner decides to do moving forward. I am cautiously optimistic, but have backup plans if I am wrong. We'll see how the next few months play out. Sent from my HTC PH39100 using Tapatalk 2

[h=2]your biggest accoplishments/goals in life?[/h]Accoplishments, umm difficult to say. Graduated from art college then actually got a job within that sort of environment. Learnt to skate, then play ice hockey at the age of 42, then coach. Goals. To be in a happy relationship again which looks to be going in the right direction. And not forgetting world peace. :-)

    • Whichever tier of thrash metal you consigned Sacred Reich back in the 80's/90's they still had their moments.  "Ignorance" & "Surf Nicaragura" did a great job of establishing the band, whereas "The American Way" just got a little to comfortable and accessible (the title track grates nowadays) for my ears.  A couple more records better left forgotten about and then nothing for twenty three years.  2019 alone has now seen three releases from Phil Rind and co.  A live EP, a split EP with Iron Reagan and now a full length.

Notable addition to the ranks for the current throng of releases is former Machine Head sticksman, Dave McClean.  Love or hate Machine Head, McClean is a more than capable drummer and his presence here is felt from the off with the opening and title track kicking things off with some real gusto.  'Divide & Conquer' and 'Salvation' muddle along nicely, never quite reaching any quality that would make my balls tingle but comfortable enough.  The looming build to 'Manifest Reality' delivers a real punch when the song starts proper.  Frenzied riffs and drums with shots of lead work to hold the interest.

There's a problem already though (I know, I am such a fucking mood hoover).  I don't like Phil's vocals.  I never had if I am being honest.  The aggression to them seems a little forced even when they are at their best on tracks like 'Manifest Reality'.  When he tries to sing it just feels weak though ('Salvation') and tracks lose real punch.  Give him a riffy number such as 'Killing Machine' and he is fine with the Reich engine (probably a poor choice of phrase) up in sixth gear.  For every thrashy riff there's a fair share of rock edged, local bar act rhythm aplenty too.

Let's not poo-poo proceedings though, because overall I actually enjoy "Awakening".  It is stacked full of catchy riffs that are sticky on the old ears.  Whilst not as raw as perhaps the - brilliant - artwork suggests with its black and white, tattoo flash sheet style design it is enjoyable enough.  Yes, 'Death Valley' & 'Something to Believe' have no place here, saved only by Arnett and Radziwill's lead work but 'Revolution' is a fucking 80's thrash heyday throwback to the extent that if you turn the TV on during it you might catch a new episode of Cheers!

    • Full length number 19 from overkill certainly makes a splash in the energy stakes, I mean there's some modern thrash bands that are a good two decades younger than Overkill who can only hope to achieve the levels of spunk that New Jersey's finest produce here.  That in itself is an achievement, for a band of Overkill's stature and reputation to be able to still sound relevant four decades into their career is no mean feat.  Even in the albums weaker moments it never gets redundant and the energy levels remain high.  There's a real sense of a band in a state of some renewed vigour, helped in no small part by the addition of Jason Bittner on drums.  The former Flotsam & Jetsam skinsman is nothing short of superb throughout "The Wings of War" and seems to have squeezed a little extra out of the rest of his peers.

The album kicks of with a great build to opening track "Last Man Standing" and for the first 4 tracks of the album the Overkill crew stomp, bash and groove their way to a solid level of consistency.  The lead work is of particular note and Blitz sounds as sneery and scathing as ever.  The album is well produced and mixed too with all parts of the thrash machine audible as the five piece hammer away at your skull with the usual blend of chugging riffs and infectious anthems.

There are weak moments as mentioned but they are more a victim of how good the strong tracks are.  In it's own right "Distortion" is a solid enough - if not slightly varied a journey from the last offering - but it just doesn't stand up well against a "Bat Shit Crazy" or a "Head of a Pin".  As the album draws to a close you get the increasing impression that the last few tracks are rescued really by some great solos and stomping skin work which is a shame because trimming of a couple of tracks may have made this less obvious.
