Chinese restaurants over here usually have well over 100 items on the menu. No matter where you go they all have basically the same menu as all the others though, if you've seen one Chinese food menu you've seen them all. You can get a piece of fried fish but no fish & chips per se. Some places like the one by me will have a menu for Japanese food on the other side so you can mix and match. Call 'em up and order ahead so by the time you drive down there it'll be ready. I'm sure there must be some but I've never actually seen a standalone fish & chips shop in America. Although many regular American restaurants do have f&c on their menu.

Yeah that's about normal here, 30-40 mains, 20 starters, rices/noodles, soups and combinations, some will have a kids menu which is often fish and chips or chicken nuggets or chips. Ones that specialise is regions, ie Szechwan or Malaysian etc would have less but generic restaurants would have that variety.

I don't know any chinese restaurant that actually cooks fish and chips like a fish and chip shop. It's fried fish, the same stuff that goes into any fish based recipe, and frozen fries taken out of a bag and cooked in an oven, pretty much the same as you'd do at home. That's why it's mostly Nuggets and Chips now days, both items come frozen in a bag and they just whack them in something hot for 20 minutes. But there are plenty of Asian owned fish and chip shops and some might sell a few Asian dishes, but they aren't usually restaurants they are take away stores.

Got the chuck roast seared off and into the slow cooker where it's been braising since 1:45 with carrots, potatoes and half a bottle of stout. Been cooking for three hours now and it's starting to smell fucking good. Think I'll roast some asparagus in the toaster over as well when it gets a little closer to being ready, I figure about 3 more hours.

TBH I have never had it and never will. We've heard it mentioned on American TV shows and movies since I was a kid but it's not something I have ever had the desire to try. When I first heard about PB&J's I thought it was just weird to have jelly on a sandwich because in Australia jelly is that stuff you feed kids to shut them up, serve it straight, with cream, with ice cream, of even a Frog In A Pond, but not on bread. Since the about the 1930's Australia as had ads on radio, and then on TV for a product called Aeroplane Jelly, it's just not stuff you spread on bread. In this country it's probably more often referred to as peanut butter and jam, but I'm still not interested.

With peanut butter and jam I  just eat it out of jar. Dont bother with the bread. My Mrs hate's me for doing this. Tastes good though. So it's worth the hassle☺️

After more than a decade of delivering bread and so many different variations of bread products it is not a favourite of mine either but a PB&J sandwich does kind of rely on a bread like product of some sort :P

Well it's true it's not a sandwich 🥪😊but I think it's better. An improvement. At least i  have not gone for the emperors new clothes type of argument. It's invisible bread with peanut butter and jam. 🤣That be silly

We do have a lot of fish and chips shops run by Asians, they used to be mostly run by Greeks, hence why many people here used to call fish and chips a Greek Roast, but not so much now.

I've noticed the Asian run fish n chip shops can't do decent chips...or most likely don't change their oil enough which explains chips that taste and smell like fish.

Oh and remember when $5 of chips could easily feed half a dozen people with leftovers (hence term "cheap as chips")?  Now $5 of chips get you a medium size container with enough for 1 person.

And they keep saying there's no inflation.

I remember when min chips used to be $2 and that was more than enough. Now I think if you ask for min chips you get about 2 chips. :)

I think quality of F&C in this country is very hit and miss. Sometimes it's the raw product and when you consider there is no mandate on exactly what Flake has to be then it's unsurprising how easy quality can change between stores. Some places just aren't good at cooking, while others excel. We've got 4 F&C shops in town and I have no idea how 2 of them survive, they just don't cook to the same quality as the other 2.

There was a thing on the ABC a few weeks ago talking about how many stores in Australia are keeping their oil too long because the majority of our cooking oil comes from Canada and there has been 7 prices rises in the bulk product this year alone. It's forcing F&C shops to wear the cost or reuse more product and neither is viable much longer. Considering we grow so much canola in the country it's ridiculous to consider we need to import the oil just to cook F&C.

Just had a curry with my sister my cousin, my sister's fella and my wife. It was mostly vegetarian so we could get more and were not obsessed with meat. Kashmir one was my favourite and a new one to me. However it may have been award winning curry place (9th in UK takeaway competition) but writing  on the tubs was not. Illegible writing. We just guessed what was what. The hot 🔥 prawn curry. Ouch. Caused issues next day for me. Raymond Briggs father Christmas  on holiday comes to mind🤣once youve seen it once youlll  know what I mean

Nothing compared to my sister's local where the normal mild tasting spinnach aloo thing is a scorcher and everything else gets hotter.

I've had good time at the land of chocolate. Some would question weather Cadburys world is this😁it was surprisingly good fun and I'm probably more likely to buy Cadbury more in the future.

Although I don't have high estimations of that mini eggs parrot. Thanks to him we went off the track on the rollercoaster ride😁

For us here in Oz Cadbury is pretty much the go to chocolate. Those who taste chocolate rather than just eat it probably wouldn't touch it but it's available everywhere, it's quite often sold on special at stores, and the ads are everywhere. I do know some people who will go on and on with reasons why Cadbury is terrible chocolate and claim people should only eat stuff with names that I can't pronounce but if I want chocolate I'm not worried about grabbing some Cadbury.

Good to know. I agree with you. I think it's very good quality eating chocolate. I stopped eating it as I was comparing it to fancy European stuff I'd very occasionally get when I was in Cambridge. Well fancy for my budget. It can't compete with that. Whilst I can see where the haters are coming from I think there missing the point. I think its good eating chocolate like you said.

Is UK and Aussie Cadbury similar taste. I've had UK kit kats and USA ones and the USA ones I did not like nearly as much.

In UK the freddo bars are very popular well mostly with kids which I'm guessing is same in Australia. It originated in Australia if Wikipedia isnot telling lies. And I'd thought they were a UK thing. 😁

In the UK I'd say lindt is better eating chocolate than Cadbury. then again lindt is swiss and does cost fair bit more. I get that when someone else pays 😊

Your right discounts are very handy with Cadbury. In UK theres always Cadbury stuff on offer prices.😋

I don't know about any differences in taste, I guess local ingredients could make some difference but I'm such a connoisseur I doubt I would notice :)

We have small Freddo Frogs individually wrapped, not sure about them being in bar form, but the kids do love them, we also have Caramello Koala, which seem to be a kids party staple. I've got a double size block of Cadbury Caramilk in the cupboard me hopefully not melting in the heat.

Melted choccy is the pits man. In my experience it's never the same😁

There individual shaped frog choccies here in UK too. In the UK freeddo are caramel and chocolate frog shapes. No koalas. We used to have tazmanian devil shaped ones which were cool. After a big price rise I don't get them anymore but my sister is very keen. Her nickname should be freddo or should it be freddorina 😁

mmmm baked beans, bumnuts and a english muffin!!

But the beans have to be cooked in the can, either in water or on a camp stove.

Drained as much of the sauce out of the can as I could then put 'em in a bowl and nuked 'em for 2.5 minutes while I was plating my saussies and buttering my muffin. Then I put ketchup & hot sauce on them.

Had a nice 4pm Saturday breakfast of 3 poached eggs with crumbled cotija cheese & avocado salsa, chorizo, baked beans, an English muffin and coffee. No frog choccies.

No freddo frog choccies. What's wrong with you 😂 joking aside I don't eat them anymore. It's just my kids who have them.

I had purple cabbage and carrot smoothie. After reading your posts and others on the forum thought I'd try something more Vege and healthier too.   Best thing was the colour.  Purple.

Absolutely your right freddos I reckon are for all ages. I never said they were just for kids although it might have come across that way in message but that was not intention. 😁I just go for a big bar of dairy milk which is cheaper especially when there on offer. Save those pennies so I can buy more metal music🤘🤘

    • Whichever tier of thrash metal you consigned Sacred Reich back in the 80's/90's they still had their moments.  "Ignorance" & "Surf Nicaragura" did a great job of establishing the band, whereas "The American Way" just got a little to comfortable and accessible (the title track grates nowadays) for my ears.  A couple more records better left forgotten about and then nothing for twenty three years.  2019 alone has now seen three releases from Phil Rind and co.  A live EP, a split EP with Iron Reagan and now a full length.

Notable addition to the ranks for the current throng of releases is former Machine Head sticksman, Dave McClean.  Love or hate Machine Head, McClean is a more than capable drummer and his presence here is felt from the off with the opening and title track kicking things off with some real gusto.  'Divide & Conquer' and 'Salvation' muddle along nicely, never quite reaching any quality that would make my balls tingle but comfortable enough.  The looming build to 'Manifest Reality' delivers a real punch when the song starts proper.  Frenzied riffs and drums with shots of lead work to hold the interest.

There's a problem already though (I know, I am such a fucking mood hoover).  I don't like Phil's vocals.  I never had if I am being honest.  The aggression to them seems a little forced even when they are at their best on tracks like 'Manifest Reality'.  When he tries to sing it just feels weak though ('Salvation') and tracks lose real punch.  Give him a riffy number such as 'Killing Machine' and he is fine with the Reich engine (probably a poor choice of phrase) up in sixth gear.  For every thrashy riff there's a fair share of rock edged, local bar act rhythm aplenty too.

Let's not poo-poo proceedings though, because overall I actually enjoy "Awakening".  It is stacked full of catchy riffs that are sticky on the old ears.  Whilst not as raw as perhaps the - brilliant - artwork suggests with its black and white, tattoo flash sheet style design it is enjoyable enough.  Yes, 'Death Valley' & 'Something to Believe' have no place here, saved only by Arnett and Radziwill's lead work but 'Revolution' is a fucking 80's thrash heyday throwback to the extent that if you turn the TV on during it you might catch a new episode of Cheers!

    • Full length number 19 from overkill certainly makes a splash in the energy stakes, I mean there's some modern thrash bands that are a good two decades younger than Overkill who can only hope to achieve the levels of spunk that New Jersey's finest produce here.  That in itself is an achievement, for a band of Overkill's stature and reputation to be able to still sound relevant four decades into their career is no mean feat.  Even in the albums weaker moments it never gets redundant and the energy levels remain high.  There's a real sense of a band in a state of some renewed vigour, helped in no small part by the addition of Jason Bittner on drums.  The former Flotsam & Jetsam skinsman is nothing short of superb throughout "The Wings of War" and seems to have squeezed a little extra out of the rest of his peers.

The album kicks of with a great build to opening track "Last Man Standing" and for the first 4 tracks of the album the Overkill crew stomp, bash and groove their way to a solid level of consistency.  The lead work is of particular note and Blitz sounds as sneery and scathing as ever.  The album is well produced and mixed too with all parts of the thrash machine audible as the five piece hammer away at your skull with the usual blend of chugging riffs and infectious anthems.

There are weak moments as mentioned but they are more a victim of how good the strong tracks are.  In it's own right "Distortion" is a solid enough - if not slightly varied a journey from the last offering - but it just doesn't stand up well against a "Bat Shit Crazy" or a "Head of a Pin".  As the album draws to a close you get the increasing impression that the last few tracks are rescued really by some great solos and stomping skin work which is a shame because trimming of a couple of tracks may have made this less obvious.
