Korean food is great. It is very hard (and hilarious) to explain the concept of low carb there, however. Saying you don't eat a lot of noodles or rice gets the same look as saying you live on the moon.

I'd get on great there as I love rice more than the average western person. Friends of my parents are Korean so I've had some stuff. I can remember dumplings but that's all I can remember. And they were very good.Alot of the stuff I had was stuff from neighbouring countries but not Korean so wouldn't count.

What's your go to Korean food hungarino?

What's most interesting or exotic animal or fish anyone has eaten?

I mention this as  at weekend could have crocodile for dinner. Probably won't as out of budget for me. It's from a farm where they have all sorts of domestic and exotic animals and as they treat the animals better than average the price goes up, kids go round thinking it's a zoo. When in fact it's a fancy butcher. A very fancy butcher. Never been. It will be interesting.

I guess it depends on your definition of exotic. I've eaten crocodile, water buffalo, zebra and elephant at restaurants. But it was only a decade or so ago where venison was considered exotic here, but these days I've even got a mate who farms venison. Kangaroo was the same for many years, fancy eating our national emblem, but it's very lean and very strong in flavour, plus it's very cheap, well it was before MasterChef started showing it on TV.

I don't know if there is a meat I wouldn't try, I'm yet to find one, but it's also a long time since I went to the kinds of places that sell more exotic stuff. My local butcher will occasionally get in croc and water buffalo but it's generally a special order because it's not a huge selling product.

I'm having vegetarian shepherd's pie for dinner tonight (because my mom doesn't eat meat for some lame reason). We're making it with fake beef crumbles, but it will probably still be good. Usually the stuff with the fake beef still is pretty good and it doesn't require you to drain off fat or worry about food poisoning because the crumbles cook so quickly.

My parents were broke for a while and a friend of theirs who trapped possums gave us the possums so we had possum stews every night for some months. I do hope I never have to eat possum again. We ate allot of rabbits too, nothing wrong with rabbit meat.

Had some spicy deviled sausages for dinner tonight (11 hours ago so that makes it last night now I guess) over mashed potatoes. My wife used to make them in the oven with a seasoning packet her mum sent her over from NZ (Americans have never heard of deviled sausages) but I make it on the stove from scratch, it's easy as shit. And the best part is the kid will even eat them, I just can't put the cayene and hot sauce on his. I was inspired when at the butchery the other day I noticed they had sausages labeled "Irish Bangers" in the case and I hadn't ever seen that here before, I had always used bratwurst for deviled sausages. Can't get too many kinds of pork sausages in the supermarkets in the northeast US or at least not around NY/NJ mostly all they have is sweet Italian sausages with fennel, which I like, but not for this.

Possum stew is definitely bit exotic. Probably not for NZ folk but for UK dudes it is. was taste not great. I'm guessing it was not so good  judging by your comments. Yeah rabbit is more of a regular every day meat to have

My cousin had crocodile when they was in the Congo. The whole family had it. They said it was not that great. It tasted like fishy meat but not in a good way.

But if Gordon Ramsey had cooked the crocodile😋😋😋best food ever 😁

Yeah croc is very plain, it doesn't smell like fish and when cooked right it does taste okay, but it will never be the sort of meat everyone goes for.

Then again neither are these "noodle snacks" I'm eating at the moment. They are essentially just cooked 2 minute noodles dried out with flavouring on them. Sometimes I wish my wife wouldn't just buy things because they are on special at Aldi.

Crikey that is quite a list killakumba. Eating your national emblem. If it's tasty why not.damn master chef you made it kangaroo more pricey 😁

Elephant 🐘. Never thought people ate Dumbo, they can be rather large, alot of meat on them.  What did it taste like? Would you have it again?

MasterChef sucks for making cheap things expensive. Lamb shanks in this country used to be the one cut of lamb that very few people bought so they were cheap. In the last 10 years or so since MasterChef started using them they increased in price by something like 5x that before MasterChef. Once it was on tv it suddenly became fashionable to eat something most people just ignored.

I didn't eat a whole elephant so it wasn't a big meal :)

Elephant tastes kind of like venison, strong and bold. The bit I had, which was from behind the ear, was not tough to eat but it was kind of muscley (if that's a word), again a bit like venison. If presented with the chance again I wouldn't say no, but I'd also be happy to try something else.

I'm always careful not to name the animals like that. My wife refuses to eat kanagroo because I used to call it Skippy and pretty much everyone in Australia knows the 70's (maybe 80's) TV show of the same name about a kid and his pet kangaroo. She's also not found of lamb because she had a toy lamb when she was a kid and naming dinner Lambie was an early mistake I made. :)  Strangely enough she's not too worried about cows we rear in the house paddock which we name Freezer Meat. She's also not worried if we eat Porky Pig.

Tonight, I had vegetarian tacos. Used the same beef replacement textured protein crumbles we use for everything in this house, but they turned out good and it was difficult to tell that it wasn't actually beef for the most part. Used hard taco shells, made some spanish rice to go with it. All in all a good dinner.

In a little while I might make some ramen. I take oriental flavor ramen and then put peanut butter and sriracha in it so it ends up kind of tasting like a bastardized version of pad Thai. I get that not a lot of people are going to like it, but I got the "recipe" from some vegan cookbook when I was younger & it was one of the better things that they had that stuck with me over the years as a comfort food.

Been elbow deep in grease, dirt, dust and spider webs all morning running 12 volts around the weighing shed to connect to the solar panels so I no longer have to rely on mains power down there. Now it's time to go into town and get some bits, so I think I'm going to do a drive by the fish and chip shop and get some dim sims and maybe a few pieces of fish.

I just had a salad and some noodles tonight. Nothing fancy. I might have some ice cream in a little bit.

Do you put a dressing on your salad. I like olive oil and balsamic vinegar mix on it when I occasionally have a salad 🥗. A few times a year 🙂

    • Whichever tier of thrash metal you consigned Sacred Reich back in the 80's/90's they still had their moments.  "Ignorance" & "Surf Nicaragura" did a great job of establishing the band, whereas "The American Way" just got a little to comfortable and accessible (the title track grates nowadays) for my ears.  A couple more records better left forgotten about and then nothing for twenty three years.  2019 alone has now seen three releases from Phil Rind and co.  A live EP, a split EP with Iron Reagan and now a full length.

Notable addition to the ranks for the current throng of releases is former Machine Head sticksman, Dave McClean.  Love or hate Machine Head, McClean is a more than capable drummer and his presence here is felt from the off with the opening and title track kicking things off with some real gusto.  'Divide & Conquer' and 'Salvation' muddle along nicely, never quite reaching any quality that would make my balls tingle but comfortable enough.  The looming build to 'Manifest Reality' delivers a real punch when the song starts proper.  Frenzied riffs and drums with shots of lead work to hold the interest.

There's a problem already though (I know, I am such a fucking mood hoover).  I don't like Phil's vocals.  I never had if I am being honest.  The aggression to them seems a little forced even when they are at their best on tracks like 'Manifest Reality'.  When he tries to sing it just feels weak though ('Salvation') and tracks lose real punch.  Give him a riffy number such as 'Killing Machine' and he is fine with the Reich engine (probably a poor choice of phrase) up in sixth gear.  For every thrashy riff there's a fair share of rock edged, local bar act rhythm aplenty too.

Let's not poo-poo proceedings though, because overall I actually enjoy "Awakening".  It is stacked full of catchy riffs that are sticky on the old ears.  Whilst not as raw as perhaps the - brilliant - artwork suggests with its black and white, tattoo flash sheet style design it is enjoyable enough.  Yes, 'Death Valley' & 'Something to Believe' have no place here, saved only by Arnett and Radziwill's lead work but 'Revolution' is a fucking 80's thrash heyday throwback to the extent that if you turn the TV on during it you might catch a new episode of Cheers!

    • Full length number 19 from overkill certainly makes a splash in the energy stakes, I mean there's some modern thrash bands that are a good two decades younger than Overkill who can only hope to achieve the levels of spunk that New Jersey's finest produce here.  That in itself is an achievement, for a band of Overkill's stature and reputation to be able to still sound relevant four decades into their career is no mean feat.  Even in the albums weaker moments it never gets redundant and the energy levels remain high.  There's a real sense of a band in a state of some renewed vigour, helped in no small part by the addition of Jason Bittner on drums.  The former Flotsam & Jetsam skinsman is nothing short of superb throughout "The Wings of War" and seems to have squeezed a little extra out of the rest of his peers.

The album kicks of with a great build to opening track "Last Man Standing" and for the first 4 tracks of the album the Overkill crew stomp, bash and groove their way to a solid level of consistency.  The lead work is of particular note and Blitz sounds as sneery and scathing as ever.  The album is well produced and mixed too with all parts of the thrash machine audible as the five piece hammer away at your skull with the usual blend of chugging riffs and infectious anthems.

There are weak moments as mentioned but they are more a victim of how good the strong tracks are.  In it's own right "Distortion" is a solid enough - if not slightly varied a journey from the last offering - but it just doesn't stand up well against a "Bat Shit Crazy" or a "Head of a Pin".  As the album draws to a close you get the increasing impression that the last few tracks are rescued really by some great solos and stomping skin work which is a shame because trimming of a couple of tracks may have made this less obvious.
