Rice is great. I make it a lot with lunch and dinner. Even switched over to rice pasta a while back and we feel better because of it. My favorite thing to do is cook the grains in some coconut or avocado oil before adding the water, just until the grains start looking uniformly opaque and a little bit toasted. Gotta keep stirring so they don't burn. Then add the water and salt, cover and wait, etc.

Raise the horns to rice then??? same for me, just feel alot better after eating rice more often. Gluten does not agree with me much.

Also Thanks for cooking tip. I bet that gives the rice some great extra flavour. That plus my normal sprinkling of pepper could be amazing ???

A more interesting one this. Mince pies with some pepper. I get the standard very sweet mince pies sprinkle on pepper and hey presto instant master piece ??? this works a treat for me at least as takes off the overly sweet edge.

I'm guessing no one's had dark 100% chocolate. It's not that hard core but Howling  wolf on front make it look this this. It's much nicer than you would think. Out of interest what's highest %dark chocolate people have had

I've had it. Dark chocolate isn't my favorite, but if it's good quality, I can appreciate it. I've also had plain, roasted cacao beans, which might be one of my favorite things ever. Small doses are called for. We have a 93% bar in the cabinet right now and I take the odd nibble here and there. Lighter bars are definitely more my speed.

Your hard core roasted cocoa beans. I'm impressed though.  What kind of shops sell those.

One reason I like the 100% stuff is I like the intense flavour of it, milk chocolate doesn't agree with me at all which is a shame as I like it. Your right though re 100 percent stuff. It needs to be good quality otherwise it's best used for baking or drinking chocolate. I kept a bar too long and it was terrible. All the smoothness went.

Have you tried 65% cocoa milk chocolate. I had some for Christmas and it was good. It was bitter sweet obviously.

I'm impressed you tried it. Yeah it's quite bitter. It's takes some getting used to. I moved up percentages before tackling 100%, I'd had alot of this good quality 90% polish dark choc before, in fact I was bought the 100% as a present from specialist Cambridge chocolate shop as that was only high % stuff they had. Otherwise no way I'd try it.

My wife has a friend from college days who owns and runs a cacao farm on Hawaii, which sounds pretty cool as far as jobs go. They're called Lydgate Farms. She's ordered some great stuff from there on occasion. That's where we got the cacao beans. I've had all sorts! My favorite has to be their 50%, which is their milk chocolate, it's sort of like a bar made out of the perfect cup of hot cocoa.

About 73% dark was the highest for me I think.  I have always heard that anything higher than that is meant more for baking/cooking than eating alone.  That being said, I would definitely try 100%.

Balor interesting what you said about high percentage chocolate being used for cooking. For me it's logical that  more high percentage stuff is used for baking/cooking after all most people don't like high percentage chocolate.that being said the stuff I've had  tastes great. It just requires eating smaller pieces of it  and enjoying the stronger flavour. Well that's my take. Would recommend you just by a premium brand. I bought some other day and cost me £2 so wasn't that much. If you do eat some can you let me know how you get on.

That makes sense.  Now that I think of it, I'm not sure that I have ever seen 100% in a store.  I will have to look next time that I go to the store.

Trader Joe's carries it sometimes, both as chips for baking and as bars for your inner chocolate masochist. I gotta say, even putting the strong flavor aside, stuff with a lot of cacao makes me feel weird if I have more than a tiny bit. My wife also bought some "brewing cacao", which is just coarsely ground beans and husks to prepare like coffee, and it tastes great but makes me feel like dog shit.

Yeah it does sound cool. Hawaii sounds amazing in general. Definitely worth googling Lydgate farms. There's probably some thing closer to home that does similar so thanks for info. That's cool about your favourite one. Proper milk chocolate. I mean mass produced stuff is ok but it's nice to get premium now and again. Maybe like Friday when I had drink of single malt Islay whisky followed by standard blend. Initial reaction was what is this rubbish. 😂still enjoyed it though.

The blended scotch that is

Tbh it's hard to get in UK too. Specialist chocolate shops sell it and some big supermarkets. Online it's easy to get. Tbh Im not going to push it. You should enjoy what you like. Eating 100% dark chocolate is just a different sort of eating experience. Much more extreme flavours.

I'm about to tuck in to a microwaved veggie burger, woo hoo.

Nothing wrong with a vege burger. Only recently I started googling how long animals for meat last typically, living conditions and method of slaughter. It was an eye opener for sure but not total shock at all. I'm not a big meat eater anyway but definitely made me think. One site reckoned male chicks were thrown into a high speed grinder with no pain killer. Ouch if true

Definitely. One reason why 100% Chocolate is nice for me is my sinuses need draining. 😂 Conversation slayed. For normal people little pieces like a grain of sand are enough due to its strength. Well to start with. Have you got any food balor you didn't like much to begin with but like now?

Just out of interest have other people on the forum cut back on processed foods and what have you stopped eating for now. I eat very few processed foods as I just trialled swapping unprocessed stuff instead and surprised my self when I felt better for it. For example I don't have regular store cereal for breakfast with milk but have a smoothie of rice, veg and protein such as cheese so not true smoothie tbh but gives a me  good start to day.  When I was younger I would be shocked with my turnaround. 😫

I'm interested what's your opinions about processed food reduction. Am I just a food oddball?😆☠️👻

Obviously, yes :D

I've been eating more cereal lately than I did for a long time. My diet changed pretty significantly in the last few months. Cut way back on meat and eggs, started having more cheese, yogurt, and milk, eating more tofu and other plant proteins, trying to eat fresh fruit regularly, less caffeine, no alcohol. I just stopped wanting a lot of what I used to have all the time after I got sick. I wasn't planning on making a complete overhaul but that's how it turned out. I don't feel much different, but I have a bit less joint pain, and I'm losing weight and hopefully getting a bit stronger. I'm as young as I'll ever be, goddammit.

Food oddball yep that's me😁 no alcohol for you. Not sure if I could do that now but it's good if you can cut it out for a time at least.   Your diet is more normal than mine. When I got poorly I tried loads of different foods and stumbled across what works now which is alot of rice. . It works for me plus a health professional has said its ok a diet considering my general health. Tbh eat what suits you is my approach, sensible erm I hope so.😁 Hope your new diet works for you long term.less caffeine and alcohol has got to be a good thing even if it's just temporary.eating more vege soya meat  proteins is also good idea  in my opinion

Young as you'll ever be. Thats good 😂

Good for you. I was prescribed a diet in which I can hardly eat anything. No fried, nothing greasy, no bread. And all because the doctor said that I have erosion in the stomach, which can develop into an ulcer. So it is better to follow a diet so that it does not lead to such consequences as mine.

    • Whichever tier of thrash metal you consigned Sacred Reich back in the 80's/90's they still had their moments.  "Ignorance" & "Surf Nicaragura" did a great job of establishing the band, whereas "The American Way" just got a little to comfortable and accessible (the title track grates nowadays) for my ears.  A couple more records better left forgotten about and then nothing for twenty three years.  2019 alone has now seen three releases from Phil Rind and co.  A live EP, a split EP with Iron Reagan and now a full length.

Notable addition to the ranks for the current throng of releases is former Machine Head sticksman, Dave McClean.  Love or hate Machine Head, McClean is a more than capable drummer and his presence here is felt from the off with the opening and title track kicking things off with some real gusto.  'Divide & Conquer' and 'Salvation' muddle along nicely, never quite reaching any quality that would make my balls tingle but comfortable enough.  The looming build to 'Manifest Reality' delivers a real punch when the song starts proper.  Frenzied riffs and drums with shots of lead work to hold the interest.

There's a problem already though (I know, I am such a fucking mood hoover).  I don't like Phil's vocals.  I never had if I am being honest.  The aggression to them seems a little forced even when they are at their best on tracks like 'Manifest Reality'.  When he tries to sing it just feels weak though ('Salvation') and tracks lose real punch.  Give him a riffy number such as 'Killing Machine' and he is fine with the Reich engine (probably a poor choice of phrase) up in sixth gear.  For every thrashy riff there's a fair share of rock edged, local bar act rhythm aplenty too.

Let's not poo-poo proceedings though, because overall I actually enjoy "Awakening".  It is stacked full of catchy riffs that are sticky on the old ears.  Whilst not as raw as perhaps the - brilliant - artwork suggests with its black and white, tattoo flash sheet style design it is enjoyable enough.  Yes, 'Death Valley' & 'Something to Believe' have no place here, saved only by Arnett and Radziwill's lead work but 'Revolution' is a fucking 80's thrash heyday throwback to the extent that if you turn the TV on during it you might catch a new episode of Cheers!

    • Full length number 19 from overkill certainly makes a splash in the energy stakes, I mean there's some modern thrash bands that are a good two decades younger than Overkill who can only hope to achieve the levels of spunk that New Jersey's finest produce here.  That in itself is an achievement, for a band of Overkill's stature and reputation to be able to still sound relevant four decades into their career is no mean feat.  Even in the albums weaker moments it never gets redundant and the energy levels remain high.  There's a real sense of a band in a state of some renewed vigour, helped in no small part by the addition of Jason Bittner on drums.  The former Flotsam & Jetsam skinsman is nothing short of superb throughout "The Wings of War" and seems to have squeezed a little extra out of the rest of his peers.

The album kicks of with a great build to opening track "Last Man Standing" and for the first 4 tracks of the album the Overkill crew stomp, bash and groove their way to a solid level of consistency.  The lead work is of particular note and Blitz sounds as sneery and scathing as ever.  The album is well produced and mixed too with all parts of the thrash machine audible as the five piece hammer away at your skull with the usual blend of chugging riffs and infectious anthems.

There are weak moments as mentioned but they are more a victim of how good the strong tracks are.  In it's own right "Distortion" is a solid enough - if not slightly varied a journey from the last offering - but it just doesn't stand up well against a "Bat Shit Crazy" or a "Head of a Pin".  As the album draws to a close you get the increasing impression that the last few tracks are rescued really by some great solos and stomping skin work which is a shame because trimming of a couple of tracks may have made this less obvious.
