Why bother worrying about the reasons you assume people have for listening to certain music or dressing a certain way? It's not like it cheapens your experience' date=' is it? Caring about stuff like that is a waste of time. Let it go.[/quote'] Indeed, as worrying about fashion over the music is something that a "poser" would do, concentrating on clothing in a negative way is no different. Most of the metal fans I know on this forum and others don't "look the part", as well as some IRL. One of the other forums I'm on with the really knowledgeable group only has one other guy with long hair besides me, most of them are middle aged dudes that were there when I happened and have been diehards ever since. If it bothers you that people dress a certain way and listen to certain music for certain reasons I hate to say it but you need to get your priorities straight. People will listen to music for a plethora of different reasons and no one can influence that (nor should they). Mind you I'm one to talk given my genre-defining ways but hey I'm sick of people claiming something is metal when it isn't.

Well guys i didnt meant the way the dress or look like. I am talking about the exhibit of their knowledge. I knew a guy who cross-examine every person he knew just to make them feel uncomfortable. I( mean why someone wants to do that? The long hair the fashion etc is something i do too cause i like it. I think you misunderstood the question.

You did ask about people "exhibiting"themselves and doing it "for the image"... as far as people making fun of each other about their music knowledge online, I don't know anyone like that. But from other posts on here I gather it happens a lot. Sounds like the usual bullshit hazing kids give one another in any group. I bet they grow out of it.

sorry i guess my english are not very good. Actually my way of thinking is very confused. Sorry. But you get the point and thats what i was talking about. Not the outer image but the image in general. exhibit their knowledge not their appearence. I hope its clear now for you

I can relate to your clarified point. I see it as a social dominance / pecking order behavior. In the metal community, the guy who has more encyclopedic knowledge, knows every album, every song, every lyric, every band member's name, etc. seems to believe he's superior in some way. It kind of boils down to what Father said - it's the same bullying crap you get in any group. It's probably just biological head-butting to appear more ....something...to improve chances of.. reproduction or whatever. That's me getting sciencey. :geek: But really, it's crap. Ignore it. Most true metalhead fans grow up and grow out of trying to prove themselves a superior metalhead and just appreciate enthusiasm and fandom in all the ways it's expressed.

Not quite sure what a pozer metalhead is. Music is music. If you think that you need to dress/act on a specific stereotype way, then you are a loser. Like what? Every death metal guy should have 8 inch beard and every power metal guy should only wear shirts with dragons? ... Also not sure how these "posers" can affect you. Just don't talk to them if they annoy you

What's your opinion about pozer metalheads? Just don't worry about everyone else, only worry about yourself. If you enjoy metal for what it is and especially what it does for you personally then what others do by dressing a certain way or acting a certain way shouldn't concern you. I'm not going to waste my time to act accordingly to stereotypes or what people say I should look/act to enjoy something such a metal.

I believe the fundamental principle is that a "poser" is someone who is pretending to like something because it is popular at the time but whose true interests are distinguished from that of their peers. I'm given to understand that a "poser" may also be called a scene-kid on account of their transient nature. These temporary fans tend to be teenagers with little to no understanding of the trend they follow in a broader sense.

Well that is a serious threat' date=' we should all be scared![/quote'] I know, think of the disastrous consequences, our small forum would descend into anarchy overnight. Cats would start playing fiddles, cows would jump over the moon, dishes would run away with spoons, all would be panic, chaos and disorder. :D

It doesn't even have to be because a band or genre is popular, there are people in the underground posing to likes things that they don't for acceptance from their small group. Fuck it, just listen to what you want, if your friends are really your friends, they'll get over it. Unless of course you're listening to Brokencyde, then they should be expected to intervene. • Whichever tier of thrash metal you consigned Sacred Reich back in the 80's/90's they still had their moments.  "Ignorance" & "Surf Nicaragura" did a great job of establishing the band, whereas "The American Way" just got a little to comfortable and accessible (the title track grates nowadays) for my ears.  A couple more records better left forgotten about and then nothing for twenty three years.  2019 alone has now seen three releases from Phil Rind and co.  A live EP, a split EP with Iron Reagan and now a full length.

Notable addition to the ranks for the current throng of releases is former Machine Head sticksman, Dave McClean.  Love or hate Machine Head, McClean is a more than capable drummer and his presence here is felt from the off with the opening and title track kicking things off with some real gusto.  'Divide & Conquer' and 'Salvation' muddle along nicely, never quite reaching any quality that would make my balls tingle but comfortable enough.  The looming build to 'Manifest Reality' delivers a real punch when the song starts proper.  Frenzied riffs and drums with shots of lead work to hold the interest.

There's a problem already though (I know, I am such a fucking mood hoover).  I don't like Phil's vocals.  I never had if I am being honest.  The aggression to them seems a little forced even when they are at their best on tracks like 'Manifest Reality'.  When he tries to sing it just feels weak though ('Salvation') and tracks lose real punch.  Give him a riffy number such as 'Killing Machine' and he is fine with the Reich engine (probably a poor choice of phrase) up in sixth gear.  For every thrashy riff there's a fair share of rock edged, local bar act rhythm aplenty too.

Let's not poo-poo proceedings though, because overall I actually enjoy "Awakening".  It is stacked full of catchy riffs that are sticky on the old ears.  Whilst not as raw as perhaps the - brilliant - artwork suggests with its black and white, tattoo flash sheet style design it is enjoyable enough.  Yes, 'Death Valley' & 'Something to Believe' have no place here, saved only by Arnett and Radziwill's lead work but 'Revolution' is a fucking 80's thrash heyday throwback to the extent that if you turn the TV on during it you might catch a new episode of Cheers!

    • Full length number 19 from overkill certainly makes a splash in the energy stakes, I mean there's some modern thrash bands that are a good two decades younger than Overkill who can only hope to achieve the levels of spunk that New Jersey's finest produce here.  That in itself is an achievement, for a band of Overkill's stature and reputation to be able to still sound relevant four decades into their career is no mean feat.  Even in the albums weaker moments it never gets redundant and the energy levels remain high.  There's a real sense of a band in a state of some renewed vigour, helped in no small part by the addition of Jason Bittner on drums.  The former Flotsam & Jetsam skinsman is nothing short of superb throughout "The Wings of War" and seems to have squeezed a little extra out of the rest of his peers.

The album kicks of with a great build to opening track "Last Man Standing" and for the first 4 tracks of the album the Overkill crew stomp, bash and groove their way to a solid level of consistency.  The lead work is of particular note and Blitz sounds as sneery and scathing as ever.  The album is well produced and mixed too with all parts of the thrash machine audible as the five piece hammer away at your skull with the usual blend of chugging riffs and infectious anthems.

There are weak moments as mentioned but they are more a victim of how good the strong tracks are.  In it's own right "Distortion" is a solid enough - if not slightly varied a journey from the last offering - but it just doesn't stand up well against a "Bat Shit Crazy" or a "Head of a Pin".  As the album draws to a close you get the increasing impression that the last few tracks are rescued really by some great solos and stomping skin work which is a shame because trimming of a couple of tracks may have made this less obvious.
