  3. Altar of the Witch is a Stoner/Doom/Heavy project with '70s influences such as Black Sabbath, Rainbow, Jethro Tull, Uriah Heep, etc. The lyric video of 'Evil Sorceress' is available for free on this link: https://youtu.be/Exos0yivjao
  4. I'm interested to see whether people class doom metal as extreme metal. I feel like with death or black metal it seems pretty obvious they belong under the extreme metal umbrella, but with doom there seems to be a wider variance. A band like Primitive Man are about as extreme as you can get, but then there's stuff like The Obsessed which gets labelled doom but is really just 70s-style hard rock, and not particularly extreme. What do people think? I just started a PhD researching extreme metal subgenres, and this stuff is fascinating to me.

  10. Third Island has just released their album Omelas on CD and downloads. https://thirdisland.bandcamp.com/album/omelas "Omelas" is the first full length album, and third release, by Irish Post-Metal band Third Island. This album's concept follows the story of "The Ones Who Walk Away From The Omelas" by Ursula K. Le Guin. The story presents the ideal Utopian society, where people are certain to prosper definitely into the future, so long as they are happy not to question the methods behind their City's success. There are some who cannot take the success of the City so simply, and who choose instead to seek out the secrets deeper within. The answers, however, are often worse than they are prepared for, and leaves the people with only two choices - to live silently with this knowledge or be exiled into the Mountains, a place from where no-one has ever returned. Written over the course of a year, the album lyrically and musically explores the themes of the story; the joy of discovery, the pride of the city, the anger and sadness of learning the truth, and final isolation of the ultimatum. This is achieved through a meld of genres, shifting slowly through melancholic post-rock and progressive passages into oppressive, anxious doom and sludge. Please enjoy your visit to our beautiful, unforgiving city.

    Estoner

Estoner "Lennud Saatana Dimensioonis" Release date: 29.04.2016; CD, digital, cassette, VHS Estonian reptile-doom View the full video-album Bandcamp First impressions Buy the album Facebook Estoner is a veteran of Tallinn's psychedelic/stoner/doom scene, having been active for over 6 years and can be characterized as a group on a path of discovery, mixing and mashing genres, styles, sounds and tones together, until something face-melting and mind-bending emerges as a result. What started off as Kyuss and Down worship, rapidly evolved into a monstrous mash-up of everything loud and heavy, mixing sludge, stoner and doom, seasoned with a healthy dose of prog and black metal. The release of their debut album “The Stump Will Rise” in 2012 saw the band performing abundantly in Estonia and taking them on a tour through Europe which led them all the way to France. While keeping a lower profile for a few years, Estoner continued experimenting with genres and sounds and will re-emerge from deep beneath the earth's crust with a lower and thicker sound, presenting a new album in April 2016, followed by a 2-week tour in Europe with Kannabinõid: 06.05 Vilnius LT @ Xi20 + Goat Metamorphosis 07.05 Warsaw PL @ Chmury + Somanaut 08.05 Poznan PL @ U Bazyla + Rah Pitia 09.05 Hamburg DE @ Bar 227 + dune. 10.05 Bilina CZ @ Moskva 11.05 Prague CZ @ Modra Vopice 12.05 Jihlava CZ @ Bezvedomi 13.05 Ostrava CZ @ Plan B + BBYB 14.05 Velenje SI @ eMCe plac + Wardhill, Intercoastal, Extreme Smoke 57 15.05 Budapest HU @ R33 + Grizzly 16.05 Košice SK @ Collosseum 17.05 Lviv UA @ Underground + Gravitsapa 18.05 Lodz PL @ Zarty Zartami + Diuna 20.05 Kaunas LT @ Lemmy + Wifebeater 21.05 Riga LV @ Leningrad
