  1. Hi everyone! The name's Clara and I'm a huge fan of everything with a true/80s/melodic vibe! My favourite genres are heavy metal - traditionnal and not with a too modern sound -, progressive metal and black metal. I'm always looking for new bands to listen - classics or new stuff - so feel free to share some links, Cheeeeers!
  2. This is my solo project, Duskseeker. It combines elements of symphonic black metal, doom metal, prog rock, ambient, and experimental/free improvisation music, among other sounds. This is the latest release: http://duskseeker.bandcamp.com/album/spiralscape Check out the Duskseeker Bandcamp for other releases in addition to the one above, and you can also check out https://extraterrestrial.network/ for my other projects!
  3. Hi folks - we're Dawnwalker. We're from London, England and play Post Metal with a heavy prog and folk influence. You might dig us if you like: Opeth, maudlin of the Well, Enslaved, Ihsahn, Pineapple Thief, Solstafir, Porcupine Tree, etc. Our new album 'Ages' came out on Friday and the response has been phenomenal so far! You check the album out here at bandcamp: https://dawnwalker.bandcamp.com/album/ages Or on youtube and streaming sites, etc.: We hope you dig it! Thanks, Mark / Dawnwalker
  4. GAIA are a progressive metal band from Brighton, UK and their debut EP release brings something out of the ordinary to the progressive metal scene. More succinct than standard progressive metal, GAIA take groove to new heights and bring about a musical masterpiece that combines sweet melodic phrasing and vibrant riffing with exceptional vocals. This EP will cause headbanging and severe satisfaction to the listener. The release for this EP is the 10th January 2020. I recommend checking this one out. The single "Words" is out now: Purchase EP from 10/01/2020 here: https://distrokid.com/live/?albumuuid=09C14A80-C8E2-4603-AC0287BD9B06A9E4&store=iTunes&ref=live_fb_iTunes_09C14A80-C8E2-4603-AC0287BD9B06A9E4&fbclid=IwAR259mGcC22ZGWinXhfq8IpoQ_nFYqmeSXDNwOLiyuhbb9Wds0yR7dcwHwU Enjoy!
  5. Please check out/let me know what you think. This is a Lovecraftian-inspired Progressive Death Metal Track that I'm looking for a place to share it with that will truly give quality feedback and comments. Thanks for checking it out!

  8. There’s not enough circus metal. It is fundamentally a bit goofy, but performed correctly it’s one of the most irresistible concoctions the metal world produces, perfectly mating the technical with the catchy. Genre junkies like me rely on a clutch of specialized bands for consistent output, and with the 2015 demise of Unexpect, arguably the field’s greatest artist, we were left with one fewer reliable supplier. Mercifully, this relative drought will be alleviated on December 8, 2017 by none other than the genre’s foremost representative. Sweden’s swing metal maestros Diablo Swing Orchestra or DSO, will release their new album “Pacifisticuffs” on that date, under Candlelight and Spinefarm Records.[1] Originally, DSO had sustained fans with the tantalizing “Jigsaw hustle”, which they described as “ABBA-klezmer-funk with a twist of lemon” in a surprisingly accurate bit of copy. The integration of disco with metal is an amusing juxtaposition given the extraordinary public hatred evinced toward disco in the late 70’s, particularly by rock fans. As usual, metal works well in genre fusion owing to its flexibility, and this track was no exception. Snappy production posed no hindrance for a band imitating a genre inherently associated with panache. Furthermore, it helped differentiate DSO’s upcoming work from the previous material. The first two albums, “The Butcher’s Ballroom” and “Sing-Along Songs For the Damned and Delirious”, largely took from a swing and opera canon with violin flourishes. The following “Pandora’s Pinata” broadened this focus while keeping its basic foundations – giving their swing a cabaret focus while moving more into funk and groove. One visual theme of the album, evident both in the cover art and the band’s Facebook post, on Dec. 12, 2016, is “gnarly geometry”.[2] Both the shirt and album cover feature figures deriving from an angular and three-sided basis. This, in combination with the color palette – bloom-heavy shades of purple and magenta – may suggest slicker production. It could also feasibly suggest djent influences. The recording process has seen the use of brass[3], strings[4], choir[5] and piano[6]. The band have also abandoned their flamboyant opera-styled female vocalist Annlouice Lögdlund with Kristin Evegård, who employs a looser style more in keeping with the swoopy vernacular of cabaret rather than opera’s arch soprano. The band will issue two singles, before the album release: “Knucklehugs” on November 3 and “The Age of Vulture Culture” on December 1. "Pacifisticuffs" track listing: 01. Knucklehugs (Arm Yourself With Love) 02. The Age Of Vulture Culture 03. Superhero Jagganath 04. Vision Of The Purblind 05. Lady Clandestine Chainbreaker 06. Jigsaw Hustle 07. Pulse Of The Incipient 08. Ode To The Innocent 09. Interruption 10. Cul-De-Sac Semantics 11. Karma Bonfire 12. Climbing The Eyeball 13. Porch Of Perception[7] [1] http://www.blabbermouth.net/news/diablo-swing-orchestra-announces-new-album-pacifisticuffs/ [2]https://www.facebook.com/diabloswingorchestra/photos/a.10150598590430316.672691.61680950315/10157821140360316/?type=3&theater [3]https://www.facebook.com/diabloswingorchestra/photos/a.10150598590430316.672691.61680950315/10157401060840316/?type=3&theater [4]https://www.facebook.com/diabloswingorchestra/photos/a.10150598590430316.672691.61680950315/10157405631815316/?type=3&theater [5]https://www.facebook.com/diabloswingorchestra/photos/a.10150598590430316.672691.61680950315/10157427084910316/?type=3&theater [6]https://www.facebook.com/diabloswingorchestra/photos/a.10150598590430316.672691.61680950315/10157441955400316/?type=3&theater [7] http://www.blabbermouth.net/news/diablo-swing-orchestra-announces-new-album-pacifisticuffs.html#DvQEvQC7uI3GE0SS.99
  9. After two singles – 2014’s poppy “inner Enemy” and the somewhat more straight-laced “The Promise” in 2016 – Swedish progressive metal maestros Seventh Wonder have recently announced their new album “Tiara”. The release is being mixed by Oyvind Larsen, the man responsible for mixing on the already-mentioned singles. The album has undergone mastering by Jens Bogren at Fascination Studios. Bogren has previously worked with other progressive metal stalwarts such as James Labrie, Katatonia, Opeth and Symphony X. ( Frontiers Records will oversee the worldwide release of the 13-track concept album, including as a double LP. The band used the following lyrics in their promotion: “’We've watched you since the dawn of time, with every moment gone by. A million suns fade and die, this is the end?’ Beware, for they're coming..!” These are presumably an allusion to alien forces, given the cosmic imagery. The precedent for a concept album about exists in the band’s widely-lauded “Mercy Falls”, and more within melodic progressive metal more generally, perhaps most notably in Evergrey’s “In Search of Truth”, which also concerned aliens and isolation. Musically it’s very much in keeping with the band’s tradition. From the promo, the work sounds rather more like “Mercy Falls” than the preceding “The Great Escape”. It’s less melodic (of course this should be taken with a grain of salt given the general character of their oeuvre) but slightly darker than their previous work. From the musicianship I trust this will work; Anubis Gate attempted this in 2017 and failed, as did Adagio who despite employing the preeminent “dark prog” master Kelly Carpenter (Beyond Twilight, Darkology, Epysode, Outworld, Zierler) dropped their neoclassical edge and therefore their unique appeal. If anything it sounds like SW might be making the opposite ‘mistake’, but their style is developed enough that for them churning out the same stuff would be at least to my ears an entirely acceptable route. The tracklist is unknown, but Seventh Wonder’s promo video can be found here:
  10. I invite you to come with me to a time before 2008. It may surprise you to learn that at this point, Circle II Circle was actually a pretty damn good band. They did eventually become prog Godsmack, as history will record with bitter regret chronicling the storied tale of Savatage. For now, however, let’s make like boomers and complain about how things used to be better. Burden of Truth sounds like sentimentalism, at times. It feels rather like Skid Row filtered through Phantom of the Opera, in that characteristically Trans-Siberian Orchestra fashion. The difference, though, is that Circle II Circle crank the technicality and bite of their music significantly higher than TSO’s comfortable bombast. It’s certainly a little saccharine, but performed with such conviction and talent as to make that nearly irrelevant. Zak Stevens’ voice is vital to this whole undertaking. His overbored bass resonates unstoppably through every song, an unmistakably mature vocal delivery that dignifies even the album’s most banal emotional turns (“How can we learn to live as one…” “I walked by the church and saw the children, and the world through their eyes…”). Moreover, it is very identifiably American, and that’s the biggest selling point of this album. It’s worth noting he layers very nicely with his backing vocalists. The “The Black” and title track have particularly good harmonizing. One might be tempted to snicker at some of these lyrics and the melodies. How antiquated the notion of melodic music without dizzying rhythmic changes or production magic out the ass. Yet, the sheer power behind it all is impossible to deny. The piano line on “Heal Me” would be insufferable if it didn’t drag you in immediately. Despite the sugar content, Burden of Truth is largely fat-free. It doesn’t fall victim to most metal tropes, including the prevalence of vibrato. It’s endearing too, in a sort of Andie McDowell in Five Weddings and a Funeral kind of way, or perhaps of Joy Davidson in Shadowlands – very American. The opening to Revelations? Badass. The crunchy riffs of A Matter of Time? Some slick shit. The entirety of Evermore? One of the most masterfully tight, pointed pieces of prog metal out there that still pounds away at the ears like a cannon blast. If you wanted an aspirational American soundtrack, this is it. Songs for an endearing everyman with more behind his ears than you might guess.

  14. Hey Guys, I recently finished writing a progressive Metal EP called 'Normality Paralysis'. I would be honoured if anyone took the time to listen to it. You can listen to it here: Alternatively, if you don't like/use youtube, you can listen to it on spotify, itunes, google music and a billion more platforms!
  15. Hey all! Like the title says, just wondering who'd be interested in getting a free CD? Recorded and released my own EP, Between The Lies - Compulsive Depressive, and rather than send it to radio stations and wait forever to be rejected because I'm unsigned, I figure I'll send it to metalheads direct! I'm not sure how to prove my legitimacy or any of that? (If you guys have suggestions, or I can be verified by a moderator??) But you can check out my bandcamp and facebook etc here. www.betweenthelies.bandcamp.com and www.facebook.com/betweentheliesAUS Have a listen and see if you wanna grab a copy! As far as music goes I suppose you'd say there's elements of thrash/death/groove, but I like to think of them as good songs that happen to be heavy. If you like what you hear, or wanna wait and receive a CD, lemme know by a PM. I hail from Australia, and more than happy to send around the world! Happy to receive CD's of your band/or what ever you think is dope, too! Cheers, ReblMunk
