  2. Hello everyone. I am new to this forum (and forum positing in general) I've been listening to bands like nokturnal mortum, emperor, shylmagoghnar etc - along with some less "black" metal bands on and off for over a decade. nokturnal mortum and emperor are life long loves of mine in particular. I had a death metal phase for a while too - gorotted, gorgasm, dying fetus, pig destroyer, black dahlia murder, etc... Whereas I think my own relationship with death metal was a reflection of a certain time in my life (I don't enjoy it so much as I used to) - black metal seems to have a timeless quality (at least to me). I've been wanting to get into art for a few years.. but have kind of hesitated.. now I am beginning to think I should just ease my way into it and let it grow naturally. I have decided to start making atmospheric black metal. I am not yet a musician.. I cannot play a single instrument.. but in the true tradition of black metal (at least what I understand it to be) - I'm going to start with whatever resources I have (I own an acoustic guitar and have access to music making software) - and go from there. I am hoping there might be some people on this forum who could offer me some tips. I want to buy an electric guitar eventually. Maybe even a drum kit in the future too (when my finance allows - though for the meantime I can use a drum machine). I was thinking I would start by getting to know the guitar via my acoustic. I guess my question is, in terms of learning to play the acoustic, what genre best translates to that classic "atmospheric black metal" sound that we hear? and which ones best translate when moved over to electric? If that makes sense. I have played around a little with simple finger picking exercises.. but knowing which genres would translate best into atmospheric kind of black metal would make a world of difference. And any other advice others have in these regards would also be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks to anyone who comments. Tony
  3. A young death metal band (Immortal Obscurity) looking for a rhythm guitarist, bass player and drummer. Need members that can play anything from slow to fast tempo death metal. The band is mainly reminiscent of old school death metal influences with some slam, melodic and occasional tech part making its way in. Located in Johnstown, New York. Preferably looking for members in the Tri-city areas (mainly Troy and Albany) from 16-19 if possible. Demos for a 6 song ep have already been written, but are up for any changes depending on your style. Thank you for reading, contact me if you're interested, I'll send you the demos and I'll make sure to stay contacted to make it work as best as possible. Hoping to meet up together whenever possible. Thank you for checking it out, have a good day.

  5. I'm a serious drummer looking for a serious touring metal band. I am looking for a band that will be making money from touring. I do need to make at least enough money to pay my monthly bills. But, my goal is to make a great living touring and recording not just make ends meet. I know this can be done with the right people. I'm looking for a band that is professional and that is ready to start writing and recording music then jump into touring or that has preexisting original material that I can learn so we can get on the road. I am based in the Northern Virginia area. But as long as the band is making money through touring so I can cover all my expenses travel from my area to yours for rehearsals should not be an issue. A bit about myself: I've been playing drums for 23 year's. My style of drumming is like a combo of Vinnie Paul (Pantera), Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater), Gavin Harrison (Porcupine Tree) and Dave Weckl (Chick Corea Band). I pull from my influences while striving to have my own voice as a musician. So that means that I work to create unique beats and fills as well as pulling from the metal beats and fills that I also love. I am also a Christian. So I have to be comfortable with the band's lyrics and content. I can't play behind anything anti-Christian and I can't play behind any lyrics with cursing in them. I am completely good with playing in a band with people with any beliefs as long as there is mutual respect amongst all the members. I just have to be able to stand behind what I put my name on and am associated with. Some of my influences are: Pantera, Deftones, Living Sacrifice, Zao, He Is Legend, Extol, Norma Jean, Metallica, Megadeth, Sepultura, Faith No More, Dream Theater, Porcupine Tree, Cannibal Corpse, to name just a few. Here are some clips of my playing. This is a cover. I played it pretty close to the original recording. https://youtu.be/z_ClsciMIBo This is some live footage with an original band that I was in. https://youtu.be/WsGFJoU_6m8 If you are looking for a serious drummer that is easy to get along with and that is committed to playing metal full time for a living please get in touch with me with some examples of your music. Thanks
