  1. Hmmm... I see. yeah... can see them being a bit over their heads... but darn are they good. and yes Paul Gilbert definitely, I agree
  2. Hmmm... I guess you're right. They must have some form of producer cracking the whip in order for them to swim all into the same direction. i like Corey ...
  3. aaaaawww... I see. Alrighty then. FatherAlabaster and Iceni. Gotcha
  4. I hear ya Bro. Some stuff is just not bearable, haha. You've got quite an interesting list of interest there. I myself like listening to Jazz and Classic. I recently downloaded the Zelda Suite by Symphonic Legends... man! ...let me tell you... in the end I just like good music and chasing notes. Damn that classification battle.
  5. @Qegnazmach & Grandmaster: Thanks Guys. Glad you found something in there that was to your liking.
  6. In an interview with Corey Taylor which I have watched on YouTube Corey states that they just do whatever they feel like doing .... as a person from the audience asked him about recording such a huge band (in terms of members). He starts to give the example of Clown and the other Dude with the long-nosed-mask going nuts and add whatever they just feel like at the time when they start recording. It sort of sounds like maybe a part of Slipknot does seem to not exactly follow an organized formula. Which I can totally see being the case with Slipknot... these guys are pretty seriously involved into their roles as individuals. I wouldn't be surprised if they in fact don't even have a real formula. In my band for example when we start recording... we just come up with guitar parts, then the drums, then the bass and the vocals. Like some form of order in which it gets executed... but structure wise.... it is a total "surprise me"-situation. Just go for what we grow... sort of.
  7. Well... might as well... and the latest brainfart... I use Gimp for sketching/doodles and Blender for the real stuff.
  8. So do I. but it happened to me before... A buddy of mine comes by totally excite about Korn and their new record Follow the leader.. that was like way back and I just couldn't get it into me. I was like: "we have listened to this shite now over the entire weekend! Please put something else in." And as he refused... also for the other weekends to come I became a fan of them and bought the entire collection. At the end he couldn't take it any longer... and especially not that I bought all their music. Funny how stuff one doesn't like can also grow on one.
  9. In Flames are very versatile... I find. Pretty much anything goes. It really depends what type of metal one likes. Come Clarity is so different from Sense of purpose...just as an example. I think most people fail to give the collection a chance... "Didn't like their one song... so I don't like anything else they did". AtG is awesome too ... I really liked Slaughter of the Soul. But yeah I mean metal has become too much of a generalizing term, haha. DT is another band that is very much versatile where one can't really get a proper idea without listening to all albums, haha... I guess no one really gives it the time.... which is understandable.
  10. Wow... that is quite a story. And I can see a lot of PitViper's way reflecting what I went through when I was starting out playing bass in a band. With the difference that our lead guitarist (back many years with a band called Disorder) put me down as he thought everyone can play bass and I kept going and convinced him and other otherwise as I started to play RHCP licks ...awww good old days. Nowadays... I am playing in two Bands (my own and another one that got formed by a quite known person...and that is quite an interesting story too.). For once being in a Band that hasn't done a single live performance and is already popular (lot's of followers and we got mentioned in Vancouver's most influential mag) because of our Drummer who is one of the folks who enriched Vancouver's Skyline with a brand new massive building. Anyways you can google that but I am not gonna go into details myself as it might not be in the band's interest, but it's a true fact. These days we're still recording our Songs and it's quite a sad thing as trying to get our bass-player (who is the recording guru) to find some time to accommodate the band for recording in his studio. The entire recording progress is going on since 2 years now... we're rarely getting together to practice our parts. And since our Drummer built that tower he is out of country most of the time and the rest of us has to get the recording done... and again it all depends on our Bass player. Me, the other guitarist, our singer lady are still hanging in there with the biggest faith and of course because of the potential... same does our drummer.... not too sure about our Bass/Recording guru. He's one awesome Bro...but he is a bit distant by saying: "it's you guys"...rather than "us". I have offered my service to record all the dry parts in the required raw compression but it wouldn't help him apparently.... since he uses ProTools for everything and I don't but the signal's profile is the same?! ...so bite me. Anyways I know exactly how difficult it is to negotiate human beings ...but nowadays there is so much tools to help you just to keep going without anyone else.... heck if I ever lose my band I will just place myself on stage with my guitar and either let paid musicians play the tracks or have a PA system go playback for the drum-tracks, bass and support guitar. No big deal.
  11. I couldn't check out your myspace soundtracks as the player wouldn't work over safari... haha? I mean that's pretty sad. However I have checked out reverbnation and damn... I can't believe no one has replied to this post yet... The track Cypress Tree is down right awesome . like it a lot. It's not exactly my genre of metal that I am used to but it takes me right back to silent hill 3 (I know sound weird but the way it is recorded and the way it feels . very nice.) Burn the sin away reminded me of Blood on your Hands in the first seconds , as it starts out the same , lol... and the it went into Silent Hill mood again. I mean it's so much ambience. I can see your tracks being very interesting for the video game industry. Here is my advice to your project: I don't know what you do for recording at but your tracks do suffer from bass-line, guitar (Amongst the eons I sleep - if they are in there then they haven't got a lot to say), synthesizer and drums all being cramped into a certain frequency range ... I don't know wether this is intended but I can only suggest that you carefully take the potential of the stereo range and pan your tracks so that you get more depth out of the mix. Also when equalizing your tracks give your guitar and synthesizer the mids and heights they need for the sections where they're intended to stand out. I know it is very challenging to accommodate lots of elements into a mix. It sounds very nice, like I said Cypress Tree did it for me... nice and heavy.
  12. John Petrucci Mike Amott ...from my personal observation. This can be argued for example: Steve Vai ...but we're not arguing
  13. Guitar: Modified Ibanez RG450DXBK (modification: 2 EMG HZ's in x-passive self-wired from 3switch into 5switch ...if it is on the full neck position I get the most wicked hi-frequency sound out of my neck Humbucker) Amp: Randall RD100 at Home (hmmm.... not to happy with it.) Mesa Boogie Triple Rectifier in the jamming space (very nice Amp ...like it a lot. Wins every fight against the drummer.) Cab: Line6 (nothing out the ordinary)
  14. Hello metalforum.com-community! The name is Mike. I do the Vocals and Guitar for a band called "Laughing Crypt Crawler". I am huge into "In Flames" , "Nightrage" and "Maiden (Of course... belongs to metal like hot water for getting pasta cooked. Everyone who disagrees with me shall be sentenced to a lesson in history of metal bands back when the world was still ok). My playlist looks like this: In flames - Dead End (certainly not the biggest of theirs but it is so intense I can't stop listening to that... I have it going since 7 years. I think Sense is their best Album... funny enough that I fell in love with a song from Clarity. I am not too much into Synthesizer but they made it happen in a way that I consider to add it into my band's recordings.... hence me favouring Sense) Nightrage - Scathing (very much besides Spiral and tremor. Jimmy was their best vocalist ever. Saw them live about almost 4 years ago at east hastings "Rickshaw Theatre" and bought their shirt which I am wearing at least 45% ever since I got it. it has already multiple holes, rips and the graphics have vanished pretty good) Maiden - The Clairvoyant (Yes... I do love 2 Minutes , 666 and Aces High as well as everything except for their earlier ones with the old singer... call me a hypocrite for all the right reasons.) I love music and I respect many styles and artists but when it comes to gangster rap my ears close automatically. It simply belongs into politics... or campaigns. I myself pretend to play guitar (since a few years) and sing.... Compared to the Amot brothers I suck so bad... but they have many more years on me... so there is still hope I got into music because of the "Guano Apes" (German Rock Band) and bought a bass and became very decent at it (I was able to play most PnS licks of Flea) Well just thought I should mention this as listening to metal is one thing... but feeling the notes, rhythm and understanding "overly used minor scales" puts one into a different seat. Thanks for allowing me into your forums. Up the irons! \m/
