1. I typically play electric guitar in drop D, just because I've grown accustomed to it since starting to really delve into the sabbathy bluesy riffs & the patterns all make more sense in drop D (plus, that little extra low does the trick without overdoing it, *in my opinion*) As far as distortion, I've always trusted in my amp's gain. I like the classic single channel high gain tube heads, but I can't get myself to throw any pedals in front of them; the natural power of the tubes hit my special spot... So in conclusion, I am kind of with ya! I'm only 23, but my ears prefer the music from the 70's more than any other "decade"!
2. Get Your Fix, Enjoy Your Kicks (Cm, G7) With a hop & a skip, you fall & break your hip, oh grandmother, you're getting old. You know I'm gonna miss ya when death comes to kiss ya & leaves you lying there cold; I don't know who's worth living for, no matter who it is they're gonna be no more- oh no you gotta go. there's no way to beat it so just open up and eat it HA! I wish I could borrow someone's tomorrow 'cause the only I got is today. & when death comes around, it'll be right now, & I'll be long gone like yesterday. When I hear most life stories, just like church, they usually bore me- oh no I hope you know: when your time comes you'll have nowhere to run HA HA! So you're young & you're pretty but it's gonna get shitty; you ain't gonna age like wine. So get your fix, enjoy your kicks & then wait your number in line. 'Cause Father Time is gonna get his share, he'll trade you some wrinkles for all of your hair- oh no that's how it goes. Youth disappears like a twelve rack of beer HA! So, early in the mornin' when you're sighin' & groanin' & you can't stop complainin', just be happy you're awake for your dead friends' sake 'cause one day you're gonna be them. If you're listening to my words go stand in the rain and listen to the birds- oh no 'cause you know: when you go away them birds ain't gonna say NOTHIN'. Satan's Son (Am, Dm, E7) Looked in the mirror the other day. I saw that demon & he wouldn't go away; there's nothin' I could say. All there's left for me to do is pray. You see that alley down the street? You don't know who, or what you're gonna meet. Go along and see... you better hope to God that it ain't me. 'Cause if you really wanna know how I have fun, it's watchin' you run... scared in the dark, hiding from the sun. Scared in the dark, runnin' from Satan's Son. You don't know what I'm about, where I grew up, or who I hung around in that dead end little town. I took all my secrets & I buried them under the ground. 'Cause when I was just a little young kid I couldn't understand what those demons did, so I ran away & I hid. I went to my room, I locked the door & I hid. So, if you really wanna know how I have fun, it's watching you run... scared in the dark, hiding from the son. Scared in the dark, runnin' from Satan's Son.
3. Kinda got a half ass collection going Haven't added to it in about a year; but this thread makes me think it's time again.
4. Monolord is the band that my buddy turned me onto Riding Easy with. Nothing super special, but solid and definitely easier to remember than a lot of the less known stoner bands I've heard. These guys turned out to be pretty sweet. This video especially... Hornss - Debreeding

It's my own damn fault man...acted a fool once or twice and am paying for it. Treatment isn't really an option yet; it's expensive without insurance & insurance companies likely only cover it if its beginning to cause problems. I'm still too young to be dealing with the liver failure/cirrhosis part of it. Also, I'm supposed to start taking immaculate care of myself to show I wanna get rid of it (aka quit drinking forever). Yeah tattoists I know are the same way, I've only known one person to get a staph infection from a tattoo, and that was probably partly because they neglected any sign of infection from day 1. Staph usually just doesn't magically appear haha

You never know these days man. I found out I have Hep C after some recent tattoos, & thinking back I'm fairly positive I didn't GET IT from a tattoo shop, but seeing that I got tats after the time I suspect I contracted it, I fuckin' hope those shops were sterile...'cause little did we know MY BLOOD IS TOXIC

The KISS was a drunk bet...had to follow through. I like it, but wouldn't get it again
8. For a band I never started...meh.
9. For the attitude, I dig Mick Jagger & Jim Morrison. For the uniqueness & overall voice it's close between Peter Steele & Freddie Mercury. The stage antics champion is GG Allin. I need DNA from all of them to make an "Ultimate Frontman Test Tube Baby".
10. Never heard of Fryette. Perhaps they're up and coming and I'll see a few around town. Didn't know VHT isn't a thing anymore...that's good to know, though. Give it 10 years and they'll be a collector's amp Ever mess around with Carvin shit? I almost went to check one out on craigslist but didn't wanna make the drive to test an amp that I know nothin' about. I've seen em used by a few different metal-esque bands, but wasn't paying much attention specifically to the tone...
11. My folks were didn't really ask or wanna know what kind of music & activities I was into...as long as I wasn't sneaking back into the house fucked-up-drunk, blowin' off school, or waking them up with phone calls from the police or my friends' parents they let me associate with who & what I wanted to. Until that day I was like "Dad, you have to check this guy out. He throws poop on people & gets beat up on stage"...yeah, shouldn't have been openly stoked on GG. Shit changed, man.
12. Kind of random, but Wolfmother's new album is pretty decent...there's some killer parts at least.
13. Not the metal band The story behind these guys is that they were 3 brothers around Detroit in the early 70's playing what we now call "punk" (I say its rock n' roll), & never made any recognition. One of the brothers died after recording some stuff and trying to get out there, so the other two stopped playing. They put all their records in the attic/basement/storage, and it just sat there for decades. Recently (within the past few years), one of their kids or nephews found these records, asked what they were, and the 2 remaining brothers from the band told the story. At least it was something like that. So the kids sent them out, and since then, DEATH has gotten a lot of recognition among the punk scene, but I think they're far beyond that of "punk". They even have a documentary on Netflix...talk about digging up something sacred. Here's a link to their full album recorded in '74. Check it if you like the old school proto punk/rock n' roll. Definitely ahead of its time! Death - ...For The Whole World To See (Full Album) - YouTube
14. I have an old friend that swears by Traynor. Never tried any Traynor gear myself, but it seems like there's definitely a specific market for it, kind of like the market for Sunn. Never used VHT either, but hearing them from the crowd has never disappointed.
15. We're a stoner band from Tacoma, WA. Been playing since 2010, & finally releasing a 12" here in a month or so... Put a promo song on bandcamp for anyone in the world that wants to listen. It's a cover...not putting any originals from the vinyl online, so this is all we got on the web. Enjoy, or don't! Or don't even listen, no offense taken https://mansonsgirlstacoma.bandcamp.com/releases
16. That MIG100 was my first one, & it's a scary son of a bitch. Anything made in Russia is questionable to Americans like myself loudest of the bunch, but it can't really be tamed, ya know? All or nothin'. That's why I picked up the 60. Works better for house shows & small rooms, which is where most of our shows end up... About the Laney, yeah it ain't the best but the hi gain channel is nice and basic. Takes to pedals really well... I think the Sunn Sorado ended up being a prototype the Model T. It's only a 60 watter with 2 power tubes, but the tone is classic in my opinion. Works best with bass I've found. I've seen a lot of guitarists use em, but it just doesn't compete with other vintage guitar heads. More of a niche.
17. All tube heads are the best way to get volume + depth, the Marshall JCM 800 is a staple in the amp world & common enough to find a used one for a decent price. That's where I would start. As mentioned before, Laney amps make killer shit too, & it's like a poor man's Marshall... & Father Alabaster is right with the Maxon pedal! They made tube screamers for Ibanez for a long time (when they were still good) but still make those same pedals today. I believe Ibanez kind of bought out Maxon, actually. I know Ibanez makes their own pedals NOW, & they're garbage. I've never tried the Maxon OD-9, but I have an OD-808 & it brings out everything good in whatever amp I'm playing out of. I could imagine the OD-9 is stunning as well.
18. Picked up a '72 Gibson SG a few years back, & that's the axe that's stuck with me since. As far as amps, I can't make up my mind so I've built a sort of stockpile: -'94 SOVTEK MIG100 -late 90's Laney GH100L -90's SOVTEK MIG60 -'68 or '69 Sunn Sorado Not a huge cab connoisseur, so I settled with a Mesa Stiletto 4x12 & haven't been disappointed. Had a Laney Iommi signature model but the speakers crapped out & been too lazy to fix it.
19. There's this guitarist from way back in the day called Django Reinhardt, I know Tony Iommi took influence from him, but Reinhardt's style of gypsy jazz would sound sweet fuzzed out with a slammin' drummer.

21. Settin' up & playing this show at a buddies' house
22. Its almost as if "stoner" needs its own recognition...whether it be stoner (rock) or stoner (metal), there is a connection & it caters to the same hunger in music taste. The fog I was speaking of over the bridge between "stoner metal & doom", might better be worded as the fog over the bridge between "stoner & doom", if simply "stoner" had its own branch in the music world. The style of Kyuss definitely birthed desert rock, which was coined as stoner rock & led to bands like Fatso Jetson, Fu Manchu, etc. Then there was the other end of the same street, with Sleep, who seemed to coin the term stoner metal & led to bands like Om, Bongzilla, Weedeater, etc. So obviously there's the doom aspect & the 70's rock aspects in the stoner rock/metal world. After Kyuss, then after Sleep, the style seemed to kind grow in two different directions. I still say they're under the same tree though. Stoner metal & stoner rock oughta be fused for simplicity's sake. Probably why we're going into this so far. It'd be a lot easier to understand & agree that some "stoner" music is strongly doom influenced, whereas some of it isn't so much about the doom and emulates the retro 70's style. There's even some I've heard that land smack dab in the middle...and saying a band is "stoner rock/metal" just looks tacky
23. RidingEasy Records - A friend of mine turned me towards these guys, and although I haven't listened to a whole lot of the bands myself yet, I can vouch for Monolord and Salem's Pot as two that have stuck out to me thus far. Seems like a good source for all y'all stoners! Also- I hit them up a few months ago to send them a demo, and they seemed pretty stoked on just listening to peoples' shit. Though we just decided to put out our own records out of pocket instead, here's a heads up: if you got a band and looking for a door to get your foot into, these cats seemed pretty cool from the few emails sent back & forth...
